Steve:

Yeah, and apparently Dorota's baby kicks out of

Steve:

time. And sloppily, because she

Steve:

kicks like Lars Zolrick from Metallica.

Leif:

Shots fired.

Steve:

Shots fired.

Leif:

Hey, Upper east siders and all you scandal loving listeners out

Leif:

there, you just tuned into the non judging breakfast

Leif:

podcast where the coffee is strong, the

Leif:

waffles are fresh, and the gossip is hotter than ever.

Leif:

My name is Leif, and I'm your seasoned Gossip Girl veteran.

Steve:

And I'm Steve, the newbie, the greenhorn, the,

Steve:

uh, I don't know, Leif. We're in season three. What am I

Steve:

now?

Leif:

You whore and a half. You just couldn't keep it in your pants,

Leif:

could you?

Steve:

Well, Leif, it wasn't me,

Steve:

because I'm in love with your uncle.

Leif:

Okay.

Steve:

So here's the deal, folks. Leaf has been watching

Steve:

Gossip Girl since it first aired, and I'm diving in for

Steve:

the first time. And together, we're your dynamic duo,

Steve:

uh, bringing you all the drama, romance, and

Steve:

sometimes questionable fashion choices of this

Steve:

iconic 2007 series.

Leif:

Bring your magnifying glasses, because each week we're

Leif:

dissecting every juicy detail of the show one

Leif:

episode at a time. We'll connect the dots.

Leif:

I cover those sneaky little Easter eggs, and of course, serve

Leif:

up some piping hot behind the scenes tea. And expect

Leif:

some iconic phantom moments too, because what's a deep

Leif:

dive without a little drama?

Steve:

And since we are all about inclusivity here at the non

Steve:

judging breakfast pod, there is always a seat for you at the

Steve:

non judging breakfast table. So go ahead and grab your

Steve:

mimosa, a cup of coffee, or roll up something from

Steve:

Chuck's stash, and let's go ahead and get into this.

Leif:

Ah. All right, Steve, June is guest month because

Leif:

we got another guest today. We are here with

Leif:

actor, producer, and podcast host,

Leif:

Danielle Joy.

Steve:

Yay.

Danielle Joy:

Hi, everyone. Hi. Hi.

Leif:

Welcome to the podcast.

Steve:

Yes, welcome to the non judging breakfast table.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Thank you for having me.

Steve:

Absolutely.

Leif:

And so we do ask this for everyone, but

Leif:

it's, uh, a little more interesting in your case.

Leif:

But what is your relationship with Gossip Girl?

Danielle Joy:

Oh, man. So I actually worked on the

Danielle Joy:

show in various capacities, but

Danielle Joy:

you'll be seeing me in this episode.

Steve:

That's really fun. And we

Steve:

definitely were spotting for you the

Steve:

entire time.

Leif:

Yes, I did admit I went a little Joe

Leif:

Goldberg on your Instagram and I found the

Leif:

picture of you from 10 years ago very

Leif:

appropriate.

Danielle Joy:

You reference with Penn Badgley, by the way.

Leif:

Yes.

Leif:

Uh, so we both have our guesses. I don't know if you want to say now or if

Leif:

you want to wait till we get to the scene to reveal?

Danielle Joy:

Up to you guys.

Steve:

Why don't we guess now, and then when

Steve:

you're actually in it, you tell us if we're right or

Steve:

if we're wrong.

Danielle Joy:

Sure. Yeah, that works. Yeah.

Leif:

So I was thinking, you are the third

Leif:

Columbia student.

Steve:

Yeah, I was thinking. Because I was torn. There

Steve:

were two people that I kind of was torn on.

Steve:

And of course, I'm going only from your Instagram as well.

Steve:

I was torn between. There was one of the models

Steve:

that I thought could have been you. There

Steve:

was also the same one that Leif was just

Steve:

talking to that was in the scene with

Steve:

Marisa Fumaro and

Steve:

the other Columbia, uh, student. So

Steve:

those were my two guesses that we. That I thought I

Steve:

saw.

Danielle Joy:

Do you want me to confirm or deny?

Leif:

Uh, let's wait till we get to the scene.

Danielle Joy:

Uh, very good guesses, gentlemen.

Steve:

Some other scene should be like, you idiots.

Steve:

I was Lily's stunt double.

Leif:

A little bookkeeping before we get into the episode. A few

Leif:

episodes ago, I did, uh, mention I was going to look up one

Leif:

when Penn Badgley and Blake Lively broke

Leif:

up. Uh, it was. Yes,

Leif:

it was, uh, announced by Us Weekly. It was

Leif:

confirmed in their October of 2010 issue,

Leif:

which would have been the beginning of season four

Leif:

shooting.

Steve:

Yeah. Okay, that tracks.

Leif:

Now, Greene Lantern fell between March and

Leif:

August of 2010.

Danielle Joy:

Spoiler alert.

Steve:

Yeah, that was my next question.

Leif:

Now, I'm guessing Blake was probably not at all of

Leif:

that because she was fairly small part in the movie.

Leif:

So I guess she probably went after Gossip Girl. And

Leif:

in filming, which I recall was probably

Leif:

like, April ish was when you guys usually ended.

Leif:

Does that sound right, Danielle?

Danielle Joy:

Uh, yeah,

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. I remember we started in, like, July,

Danielle Joy:

and we would usually finish. It was like, uh, it was

Danielle Joy:

a good 9 to 10 months of filming for each

Danielle Joy:

season.

Steve:

Yeah, she had a small role in

Steve:

the movie, but a big role in Ryan Reynolds heart.

Leif:

Yes. So we are here to Talk

Leif:

about Season 3, Episode 16,

Leif:

the Empire Strikes Jack. The

Leif:

original air date was, uh, March of, uh,

Leif:

2010.

Steve:

I feel like there's a familiarity with this title.

Steve:

I feel like I recognize this one from somewhere.

Leif:

It does sound, obviously, Star wars reference,

Leif:

for those that don't know that have been living under a rock for the

Leif:

last 40 years.

Danielle Joy:

I do love what they do with all the titles, though. Uh, they always make them

Danielle Joy:

very clever.

Steve:

Yeah. These great movie references

Steve:

and always a lot of fun. And Leif

Steve:

and I are also big Star wars nerds, too,

Steve:

in different capacities. He shook

Steve:

his head.

Danielle Joy:

I Always wondered if they came up with the

Danielle Joy:

titles first and then wrote the story around the

Danielle Joy:

title, because it always sort of has to do with what's

Danielle Joy:

happening in the show. Or if they wrote the stories and

Danielle Joy:

then tried to find a title that would work.

Leif:

Well, sometimes the titles really have nothing.

Steve:

To do with the show.

Leif:

I guess probably sometimes they came up with the titles first, but I know

Leif:

for a fact that they definitely came up with them after the fact

Leif:

sometimes. Like, for instance,

Leif:

the episode before the writers strike in

Leif:

season one was the, uh, name of the

Leif:

episode was came up with by the crew because the writers

Leif:

were already on strike.

Steve:

So they name it Thin Line between Chuck and

Steve:

Nate. Yes.

Danielle Joy:

Okay.

Steve:

Yeah. And I was gonna kind of say

Steve:

the same thing as Leif. I feel like there's kind of

Steve:

a, uh, mix of those things happening. Cause

Steve:

sometimes. Sometimes the title feels really

Steve:

shoehorned, but other times it feels

Steve:

just absolutely appropriate. Personally,

Steve:

I like this one.

Leif:

I thought it was perfect.

Steve:

It was a perfect title.

Danielle Joy:

Super appropriate. Yeah. And.

Leif:

Ah, we'll get to it. But I thought the final scene actually did kind of mirror

Leif:

the final scene of Vampire Strikes Back as well.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah, I could see that.

Steve:

Uh, it's the opposite. I am your

Steve:

father.

Leif:

No, no, the actual final scene where Luke, uh, and Leia are

Leif:

on the ship.

Steve:

Oh, oh, right, yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Blair and Chuck.

Leif:

Yeah, yeah. This. We got Blair and Chuck declaring war.

Steve:

Yeah. Ah, yeah.

Leif:

So this episode was written by Jake

Leif:

Coburn. He came on as story editor in

Leif:

season three, and this is his second chance at writing.

Leif:

Uh, previously did episode six, Enough About

Leif:

Eve, which was the episode

Leif:

where Blair and Vanessa were competing for

Leif:

the speech at the freshman dinner.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

And the episodes directed by Joe

Leif:

Lazarev previously did O Brother,

Leif:

Wer Bart thou and how to succeed in

Leif:

Bassness.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

I like the director's credits more than the writer's

Steve:

credits here. I think that

Steve:

those are some good, uh. Oh, brother. Where

Steve:

Bart. That was a great episode.

Leif:

Now, I'm not complaining, but

Leif:

I did notice more than the

Leif:

usual background, gratuitous,

Leif:

nearly nudity in this episode.

Danielle Joy:

Well, they had the models.

Leif:

Yeah. Anytime you have

Leif:

models, they don't really show that,

Leif:

like, the girls just walking around in their

Leif:

underwear. They don't typically show that on a CW

Leif:

show. Yeah, I thought it was definitely noticeable to

Leif:

me.

Danielle Joy:

Definitely one of the more sexy episodes.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

There's also this episode. Some of the outdoor

Steve:

shots, there were some really

Steve:

cinematic. There's some really cinematic

Steve:

framing in some of the outdoor shots. In this

Steve:

especially, there's one with Chuck in front of

Steve:

the bridge. I don't know if it's the Brooklyn Bridge. Uh, but.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, the bridge. Yeah, I think it was the Brooklyn Bridge

Danielle Joy:

with his mom. Right.

Steve:

Well, it's at. Right after. Well, there's that scene.

Steve:

And then right after she leaves when he's on the phone and the

Steve:

sun has set and it's just that glow

Steve:

behind him. The

Steve:

cinematography in this was, ah,

Steve:

well done this episode.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Yeah.

Steve:

If only the writing.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, they. They hardly ever filmed

Danielle Joy:

outside. Um,

Danielle Joy:

I don't want to say that, though. We did film outside a lot.

Danielle Joy:

Um, but, yeah, most of the time

Danielle Joy:

we were on location or on soundstages.

Danielle Joy:

So, uh, yeah, the outdoor shots were always really

Danielle Joy:

nice.

Leif:

By this time, anytime there was filming outside, there was

Leif:

large crowds.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Yeah.

Steve:

Okay. Yeah. And so that makes sense also why

Steve:

those shots stood out so much,

Steve:

too. That's a really good point.

Leif:

Steve, why don't you go ahead and read us that Vulture recap?

Steve:

All right, here we go. I believe in

Steve:

second chances, Eleanor Waldorf tells the

Steve:

delinquent Jenny Humphrey when

Steve:

welcoming her back to work in her

Steve:

fashion sweatshop. It's an

Steve:

interesting choice of phrasing. Second chances are

Steve:

something one needs to believe in, since, like

Steve:

true love in astrology, some suspension

Steve:

of common sense is required. After

Steve:

all, most of the time, the result is

Steve:

disappointment. If someone doesn't behave

Steve:

the way you hope they will the first time around,

Steve:

what are the chances they'll completely change?

Steve:

In last night's episode, Jenny, despite

Steve:

ingesting a large quantity of pharmaceuticals,

Steve:

managed to not disappoint Eleanor. At least

Steve:

not yet. Chuck Bass, however,

Steve:

did not fare so well, even though he knew

Steve:

Elizabeth willingly participated in a cruel and

Steve:

inhuman plot to rob her estranged son

Steve:

of his fortune out of love for a man who

Steve:

was not only a blatant jerk, but a

Steve:

possessor of the worst hairpiece since

Steve:

Sam Donaldson. He gave her the

Steve:

chance to rally to his defense or at

Steve:

least stick around and mother himself, and was left

Steve:

red nostril and quivering. Her failure to

Steve:

come through on this front, more than anything she'd

Steve:

done so far, should have tipped him off to the

Steve:

fact that this stubborn loner was

Steve:

indeed his mother.

Steve:

Oh, Chuck, here's my

Steve:

thing about the Vulture report this week. It

Steve:

doesn't even mention the

Steve:

Dan Vanessa Trainwreck plot

Steve:

going on.

Danielle Joy:

Why would you mention it?

Leif:

It's just completely pointless. It was a nothing story.

Steve:

It was so bad.

Danielle Joy:

Oh, uh, it was so bad.

Steve:

So Leif and I have a common saying

Steve:

about Gossip Girl, and it's that we feel like the

Steve:

writers. A lot of Times would be great.

Steve:

Writing teachers that they have these

Steve:

great tools and great tricks and they

Steve:

know the. The right way to do twists and

Steve:

right way to put things out. But then the execution

Steve:

itself, a lot of the time just kind of

Steve:

falls flat. That when it actually comes to the

Steve:

words on paper, there's a lot of times that it's like

Steve:

you had all of this right here,

Steve:

and this is what you went with, you know, and

Steve:

Dan and Vanessa is what you went with

Steve:

the Rut episode.

Danielle Joy:

And I feel like when this show came out, I was in

Danielle Joy:

my 20s. Right. And it had such a chokehold

Danielle Joy:

on everyone, you know, 18 to 34.

Danielle Joy:

And, you know, fashion was inspired and, like, I

Danielle Joy:

definitely dressed like Blair Waldorf when the show came out.

Danielle Joy:

But, yeah, I, uh, watching it back now,

Danielle Joy:

I'm like, wow, these storylines are

Danielle Joy:

like, I wouldn't put up with this as

Danielle Joy:

a. As a person in the dating world. Like,

Danielle Joy:

why did I think that this was so sexy and

Danielle Joy:

appropriate back then? But

Danielle Joy:

I feel like the actors did such a good job

Danielle Joy:

with the words they were given and the

Danielle Joy:

script they were given to not make

Danielle Joy:

it seem as downer

Danielle Joy:

as it was.

Leif:

Yes. The actors often carry the show.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Yeah. They definitely chose the right people for this

Danielle Joy:

show.

Steve:

Yes. Yeah, yeah. Uh, I really. I think

Steve:

Leighton Meester is one of the

Steve:

best actors to come from this show, too,

Steve:

I thought.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Her and Pen and Ed are my

Danielle Joy:

favorites.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Steve:

And I also think that Eleanor,

Steve:

um, Margaret Collins and, um,

Steve:

uh, Kelly Rutherford, I think, are also

Steve:

just absolutely spectacular.

Steve:

They. They can just own any scene they're

Steve:

in, even when they're not trying to. So.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, yeah, I heard. I heard. I was listening

Danielle Joy:

to one of your most recent podcasts that just aired, and you

Danielle Joy:

were saying how, like, you didn't want the drama between,

Danielle Joy:

uh, Lily and Rufus. You're like, save the drama for the

Danielle Joy:

kids. Like, I was like, yeah,

Danielle Joy:

yeah, it's a teen show.

Leif:

We don't care about the parents.

Steve:

Yeah. Just let them get along

Steve:

already.

Danielle Joy:

There are enough kids in the ensemble to have

Danielle Joy:

multiple storylines. You don't need the parents in there as

Danielle Joy:

well, but the parents make it interesting, too, especially when you get

Danielle Joy:

to, um, later seasons with Blair's

Danielle Joy:

parents as well. I loved her storylines with her

Danielle Joy:

parents, but, yeah.

Leif:

Uh, uh, she definitely has the best parental

Leif:

unit at this point with four know solid

Leif:

parents.

Steve:

Yeah. That live in Europe.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

That aren't there to ruin her directly the

Steve:

way they were.

Danielle Joy:

Parents are really there.

Steve:

Yeah. Oh, yeah. Well, Lily's there for everyone. That's

Steve:

not her kids.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, same with Rufus.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah, same with Rufus. Yeah, he's a great dad to

Steve:

anyone but Jenny.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Yeah. Poor Jenny. The

Danielle Joy:

only person nice to her is Nate.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

I was thinking in this episode when we. Well, when we

Danielle Joy:

get to it later, but, like, I was thinking he would have been a better brother

Danielle Joy:

to her than Dan. Yeah, like, he should have

Danielle Joy:

been her brother.

Leif:

Now, do you have a favorite and

Leif:

or least favorite character?

Danielle Joy:

Uh, well, I am very partial

Danielle Joy:

to Blair, so her style

Danielle Joy:

definitely inspired me the most. I'm very, like, preppy.

Danielle Joy:

Um, I actually have my headband.

Leif:

Nice. I've got it on the right side, too.

Leif:

Uh, you have it on the right side?

Danielle Joy:

Uh, so, yeah, I bought this back in Gossip Girl days, and I

Danielle Joy:

still have it. I don't really wear headbands that much

Danielle Joy:

anymore, but college.

Steve:

There's no headbands in college.

Danielle Joy:

Blair has a special place, uh, in my heart and also

Danielle Joy:

because I was her stand in for multiple years,

Danielle Joy:

um, for the last, like, two or three seasons

Danielle Joy:

of the show. So. Yeah,

Danielle Joy:

that's awesome.

Leif:

Well, let's get into the episode. Act one

Leif:

begins with a montage of models prepping for a

Leif:

fashion show, and Gossip Girl opens the episode.

Leif:

They say clothes make the man, but who makes the

Leif:

clothes? On the Upper east side, it's Elwin or

Leif:

Waldorf. Ah. And we hear her new line is to

Leif:

die for.

Leif:

So, as we said, we get the, uh, scantily clad

Leif:

models walking around and a little

Leif:

montage going on. And then Rufus is walking with

Leif:

Jenny. We get some exposition about Rufus being

Leif:

back moved into Lily's. Much to

Leif:

Jenny's surprise, Rufus has also volunteered her

Leif:

to assist with Eleanor's latest.

Steve:

Fashion show because now he suddenly

Steve:

supports her.

Danielle Joy:

So I. Like I said, I haven't rewatched the

Danielle Joy:

show up until now, and I thought that this

Danielle Joy:

episode was the one where Agnes torches the

Danielle Joy:

dresses. Obviously, that happened beforehand. Right.

Leif:

Because that's now season two.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Yeah. Um, I don't know why I had that mixed up in

Danielle Joy:

my brain, but. So what

Danielle Joy:

happened with Jenny and Eleanor that

Danielle Joy:

she would need to give her a second chance?

Leif:

Or Jenny quit

Leif:

and took her dress that she had, like, let

Leif:

Eleanor take the credit for.

Danielle Joy:

Uh, okay, right, right, right.

Steve:

And then went off and went to.

Leif:

Start the fashion line with Agnes. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Gotcha. Okay. And then Agnes finished all the dresses,

Danielle Joy:

right?

Steve:

Yeah, Yeah.

Leif:

I mean, you rip it on Rufus, but this is actually one of his best

Leif:

parenting episodes for Jenny, I would say it really.

Steve:

It honestly is like, uh, honestly, this.

Leif:

Was a great thing. This is a great thing for him to do.

Steve:

He should have done this two years ago. Yeah,

Steve:

exactly. Like, years ago when she's like, I want to go work for

Steve:

her. Like. Okay, cool.

Danielle Joy:

Is he friends with Eleanor?

Steve:

No.

Leif:

He'S friendly. I mean, he's been to dinner parties at her house

Leif:

a few times.

Steve:

Yeah, he has. And now he also is

Steve:

married into money, so.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, right. He married Lily.

Steve:

Yeah. He's in the Upper east side now, so

Steve:

everyone knows who he is now.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. You can call in a favor to Eleanor Waldorf,

Danielle Joy:

apparently.

Steve:

Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Now that he's a token

Steve:

husband. Now that he's Lily's

Steve:

token.

Leif:

Well, if you ever see the duo. He tried to get Eleanor to

Leif:

fire Jenny.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, Yeah. I just. I

Danielle Joy:

didn't. I was like, how did he. How did he have this

Danielle Joy:

relationship with Eleanor to call in a

Danielle Joy:

favor? It's like, maybe Lily did it. I

Danielle Joy:

don't know.

Leif:

Yeah, I mean, they've met a few times. They had dinner. Uh, he's been

Leif:

to dinner at her house at least twice.

Danielle Joy:

Okay, but enough to, like, call in a favor?

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Well, I mean, it is free labor.

Danielle Joy:

That's true. That's true. And. Yeah, but as, like, a second

Danielle Joy:

chance, too.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

She already messed up, so. I don't know. I don't know.

Danielle Joy:

I thought that was. That was weird. I forgot what had happened, but I was like,

Danielle Joy:

does he know her?

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

So Jenny and Rufus enter the Waldorf penthouse, and

Leif:

Jenny is immediately remembers her love of this world, and

Leif:

she sees all the, you know, prep going on, uh, everything

Leif:

moving around, hubbub bubble. For the prep for the

Leif:

show.

Steve:

Yeah. I was really excited for a

Steve:

fashion show episode. Uh, the last one was

Steve:

fun. Also, it's because you have

Steve:

Eleanor, and like I said earlier, she's one

Steve:

of my favorite actors on the show, and her

Steve:

storylines always just make

Steve:

me feel something.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, I love Eleanor Wildorf, too. Yeah. I also

Danielle Joy:

thought it was interesting that they're prepping at

Danielle Joy:

the Waldorf penthouse.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Doesn't she have an atelier somewhere that

Danielle Joy:

she could be getting her models or an office that

Danielle Joy:

she should be using? Why?

Leif:

I guess that scent was being used for something else.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Clearly that day,

Leif:

Chuck and Blair are saying their morning goodbyes as they

Leif:

go about their respective days. The two still

Leif:

haven't uncovered Jack's plan. But as

Leif:

Blair leaves, two large security guards arrive and tell

Leif:

Chuck they're there to escort him off the

Leif:

premises.

Danielle Joy:

Poor Chuck. Poor

Danielle Joy:

Blair with the hat in that scene.

Leif:

I kind of like that gray outfit. The gray outfit, though.

Steve:

Remember that?

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, the hat.

Steve:

Remember that? Total Stranger that said she's my mom that a DNA

Steve:

test says she probably is, that I trust completely.

Steve:

That's still a good idea, right?

Danielle Joy:

So, yeah, so I hadn't. Again, I hadn't watched the episode previous to

Danielle Joy:

this, but. So Chuck signed

Danielle Joy:

over his hotel to a

Danielle Joy:

woman that he just met

Danielle Joy:

based off of the results of the DNA test that he

Danielle Joy:

didn't have control over.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Even if the DNA test is true, he still doesn't

Leif:

know her.

Danielle Joy:

Exactly. Exactly. Yeah.

Leif:

This is someone who abandoned him for his whole life.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. 18 years or whatever. Yeah,

Danielle Joy:

yeah, yeah. Chuck, come on. You're smart.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

Apparently not.

Steve:

It was. Yeah, apparently not. Apparently,

Steve:

Chuck just needs a mom so bad.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

So badly.

Leif:

Lily, Hello.

Steve:

Yeah, like, oh, no, I can't ask my

Steve:

dad's company that definitely would not want to see me

Steve:

fail. Help me out. Like, come on, dude,

Steve:

drop the ego.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. That was an interesting plot point

Danielle Joy:

in the show. I mean, obviously it has to

Danielle Joy:

happen for what happens at the end of the show, but, like,

Danielle Joy:

why would you do that, Chuck? You're so smart.

Danielle Joy:

Chuck and Blair are such schemers that I feel like he would

Danielle Joy:

have thought this through a little bit more and talk

Danielle Joy:

to Blair about it, too. I don't know if he did, but.

Leif:

I feel like Blair is actually the one who, like, really pushed him into

Leif:

it. They set that

Leif:

foreshadowing up big that it was, you know. Oh,

Leif:

uh, I was the one who pushed you into it. I was the one

Leif:

that gave you the strength to do it.

Steve:

This whole episode, I was waiting for

Steve:

Chuck to turn on Blair,

Steve:

and he never did, because I was waiting for him to be like, and

Steve:

you.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. I'm surprised she would counsel

Danielle Joy:

him to do that. That's. So have a relationship with

Danielle Joy:

your mom. Yes. But sign over the rights to your hotel.

Danielle Joy:

No.

Steve:

Claire is really quick to give really bad advice, though.

Steve:

She is. Because SHU will be like, oh, maybe you shouldn't trust

Steve:

her. And then the second that she meets somebody, she's like,

Steve:

oh, no, I buy it completely.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

She did the same thing with Trip and Serena. When

Steve:

Trip was. She was like, oh, no, he must really actually

Steve:

love you. You should go on a trip with this congressman

Steve:

who's married to someone else.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. And she also takes her own bad advice a lot,

Danielle Joy:

too.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. But she's so smart, too, and they scheme, and when they have

Danielle Joy:

plots, they, like, work out and. Yeah.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Just not very good advice givers, apparently.

Leif:

Jenny apologizes to Eleanor, and the two

Leif:

make nice. However, Jenny is shocked to find out that

Leif:

she is the not the only one getting a second chance.

Leif:

Jenny's former business partner, Agnes is also in the

Leif:

show.

Steve:

Yeah. This train wreck is back.

Danielle Joy:

Why is Agnes there?

Steve:

This is not. She is not a

Steve:

character we needed more of

Steve:

to begin with.

Danielle Joy:

She's an interesting character in the sense

Danielle Joy:

that she creates drama. Right, right,

Danielle Joy:

right. And that's a wild show. But, like,

Danielle Joy:

the reasoning as to why she's there is very

Danielle Joy:

confusing. Like, you're just given

Danielle Joy:

second chances to everyone today, Eleanor.

Steve:

Yeah. And her beef with Jenny is

Steve:

also kind of like, where is this really coming

Steve:

from?

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, you ended. They buried the

Danielle Joy:

hatchet. And then she's like, huh? Haha. Just

Danielle Joy:

kidding.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah, just kidding. Because

Steve:

you burnt. I burnt your dresses, and I'm still mad about

Steve:

it.

Leif:

Well, I think she got mad is because Eleanor was

Leif:

giving her more than a second chance.

Leif:

Jenny. That is.

Steve:

Yeah. You think? Jealousy. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Because Agnes says later on, she said something about,

Danielle Joy:

like, I was gonna have my own fashion line, and you ruined

Danielle Joy:

it. But, like, Agnes, you're here with

Danielle Joy:

Eleanor. You just made nice with Jenny. Someone else who can

Danielle Joy:

help you with your career. Why are you trying to destroy that?

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, Jenny was, uh, willing to give you a second chance as

Danielle Joy:

well. Like, you completely destroyed that. And then the

Danielle Joy:

blonde girl that. Who

Danielle Joy:

was that?

Leif:

That was Noah. This is the first time we ever seen her.

Danielle Joy:

Who's that?

Steve:

Y.

Leif:

But for some reason, she also hates Jenny. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Uh, yeah, apparently. Why does everyone hate Jenny?

Danielle Joy:

I was like, wait, did I miss something? I don't remember her.

Steve:

Nope, you did not miss anything.

Steve:

Nothing that we all didn't miss.

Leif:

Dan and Vanessa are riding the elevator to Lily's

Leif:

penthouse, anxious about telling the family about them dating.

Leif:

However, their fear was needless, as everyone already knows.

Leif:

Rufus and Serena congratulate Dan and Vanessa because, of course.

Leif:

Course, Nate spilled the beans.

Leif:

Never tell Nate a secret.

Steve:

Oh, no, never. And I hate this

Steve:

whole. This whole Dan Vanessa story.

Steve:

They had that hot kiss at one point

Steve:

behind the photo, uh, thing. The photo

Steve:

booth. And other than that, it has just been,

Steve:

first of all, like, let's just open up a book of

Steve:

tropes and see what we can do with

Steve:

these best friends now dating. Like, let's just watch

Steve:

Friends and then write

Steve:

this whole storyline. Oh, we

Steve:

gotta hide it from people. And this is where we're friends. And this is where

Steve:

we're not. Oh. And now we're in a rut after dating for

Steve:

five minutes, and it's like, shut up.

Leif:

The only thing I could think is they were trying to kind of

Leif:

balance the deep, like, the

Leif:

Darkness of the Chuck storyline with something a little

Leif:

bit funny, but it just didn't land.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, funny and heartwarming at the end, but,

Danielle Joy:

yeah, the whole damn Vanessa storyline. Um, in this

Danielle Joy:

episode, I was. This is when I was like, what are they

Danielle Joy:

doing? Like, if I were in this relationship, I would.

Danielle Joy:

First of all, I would not be listening to Serena's advice.

Danielle Joy:

No, you know, she didn't. She didn't really give advice. She just sort of,

Danielle Joy:

like, planted a little seed in Vanessa's head about being in

Danielle Joy:

a rut. And Vanessa's like, oh, my God, we are in a rut. And I

Danielle Joy:

was like, serena, shut up.

Leif:

Like, yeah, first of all,

Leif:

you know, Sarina and Nate weren't ever really

Leif:

friends. They're friend adjacent.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

But they weren't hanging out, watching movies together and,

Leif:

you know, having deep conversations into the night.

Steve:

The most friendly thing. The most friendly thing

Steve:

they've actually done together is Serena

Steve:

covering for Nate's affair

Steve:

with a married woman. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

But also, like, Nate's been obsessed with Serena since the

Danielle Joy:

beginning.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

So it's not. It's not like they were ever just friends. He's always

Danielle Joy:

had the hots for her.

Steve:

Exactly.

Leif:

And she's always had the hots for him, too.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, that's true. Yeah. Yeah, she did. Yeah.

Leif:

Per Lily.

Danielle Joy:

Her and Lilial.

Leif:

No, Pearl, per Lily. She said, like. Like in

Leif:

the. Like the first or second episode, she's like, oh, she's, like,

Leif:

talking to Nate. She's like, uh, oh, I think my daughter's always had a crush on you.

Steve:

Yeah, I remember that.

Danielle Joy:

The reason that. That Nate's so obsessed with her

Danielle Joy:

is because they hooked up while he was dating Blair.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

That's episode one, isn't it?

Steve:

Yes. And either episode one or

Steve:

two, the first time we see Lily interact with

Steve:

Nate, she says something to him in front of

Steve:

Dan, too, I think. Right. I think Nate and Dan are

Steve:

in the lobby.

Leif:

Yeah. But I think. I don't think, uh, she knew Dan was there. Dan was just

Leif:

kind of sitting there.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

She was talking to Nate.

Danielle Joy:

Dan was Joe Goldberg hanging,

Danielle Joy:

preparing for his role in you.

Leif:

Shot on the same soundstages.

Danielle Joy:

But yeah. She says something to Vanessa like,

Danielle Joy:

oh, we always try and mix things up, and we don't want

Danielle Joy:

it to ever get stale or something. And Vanessa's like,

Danielle Joy:

hm, I should do that. And

Danielle Joy:

then. Yeah. And then I'll talk about it when we get to that

Danielle Joy:

scene. But, like, oh, my God, why are you. Like, why

Danielle Joy:

did that get into your head?

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Eleanor explains to Blair how she is trying to lure

Leif:

a Walmart analog to carry her new line.

Leif:

Shots are fired at Bristol Palin as Blair clearly

Leif:

looks down on the retail chain. However,

Leif:

Eleanor insists that Blair bring her normal college

Leif:

friends to the party to impress Mr.

Leif:

Conwell on how down to earth the

Leif:

Waldorfs are. Dorota wonders what Blair will

Leif:

do as she has no friends, only second rate

Leif:

minions.

Danielle Joy:

I love Dorota. Love, love, love Dorota.

Steve:

Yeah. And apparently, Dorota's baby kicks out

Steve:

of time. And sloppily, because

Steve:

she kicks like Lars Zolrick from Metallica.

Leif:

Shots fired.

Steve:

Shots fired.

Danielle Joy:

I love how Blair goes down the region. She's like, what about Sax

Danielle Joy:

or Bloomingdale's? Like,

Danielle Joy:

Bloomingdale's a four or so.

Steve:

And just her face when her mom says

Steve:

Cornwalls or Cornwalls. And she just

Steve:

blank, like, are you kidding me?

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, but, mom. Um, no.

Leif:

A distraught Elizabeth bursts into Chuck's

Leif:

suite to apologize for forcing Chuck to leave.

Leif:

Jack is close behind her and points out how he

Leif:

masterminded the whole thing and the empire is

Leif:

now his. A heartbroken Chuck stares

Leif:

down Elizabeth as he walks out under his own

Leif:

power. Poor Chuck.

Steve:

Ugh.

Leif:

But he brought it on himself.

Steve:

And I sat there, and I was like, oh, Jack must have something

Steve:

on her.

Danielle Joy:

Me too. Yes. I was like, what does he have

Danielle Joy:

on her?

Steve:

And as we were saying, here you have the writers with

Steve:

this great setup. He has some kind of

Steve:

really great dirt on her. No, no.

Steve:

Just. Just. The woman can't help herself around

Steve:

the man that she's in love with.

Danielle Joy:

The brother of her. Of her dad.

Steve:

Yeah. Of her dead, not husband.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Uh, like

Danielle Joy:

you were in love with both brothers. I don't.

Steve:

Like, uh.

Steve:

Oh, my God, the worst.

Danielle Joy:

But she seemed distraught. But, like, if she was really

Danielle Joy:

distraught, she wouldn't have done it.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Yeah. It's so weird.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

And as Chuck points out later, it, uh, completely

Leif:

doesn't make sense, because why would you love someone that would

Leif:

do so?

Steve:

Like. Yeah. Why would you. Hey,

Steve:

I love you so much. You know, it would be great if

Steve:

we. A great way for us to bond. Let's

Steve:

completely fuck over your estranged son that

Steve:

thinks you're dead. That'll bring us together,

Steve:

spark up the romance, get us out of a rut.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. It's all about ruts today, isn't it?

Steve:

This is a run episode. This was. This was

Steve:

their way.

Danielle Joy:

But she comes in, she's like, I'm so, uh, sorry, Chuck. And then Jack's

Danielle Joy:

like, I mastermind the whole thing. And I was like, you're in Love with

Danielle Joy:

that. He's literally being a complete

Danielle Joy:

asshole. Yeah, like you're saying I'm

Danielle Joy:

sorry and he's saying, hahaha.

Danielle Joy:

Clearly you made the wrong choice.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

And Gossip Girl takes us into the first commercial break

Leif:

with.

Leif:

We hear Chuck's hotel is hanging on by a thread and

Leif:

Jack's pulling all the strings.

Danielle Joy:

You're so clever, Gossip Girl. So clever.

Leif:

Act two begins. Vanessa and Serena are at

Leif:

the buffet line discussing how they are both in new

Leif:

relationships with lifetime friends. Serena

Leif:

unintentionally causes Vanessa to become self conscious about her and

Leif:

Dan doing the same things they have always done. Dan

Leif:

comes in and talks about their Saturday tradition, which

Leif:

just causes Vanessa to get even further inside her

Leif:

head.

Steve:

So fucking dumb.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, so this was one of those lines that I was,

Danielle Joy:

I was mentioning before about how the

Danielle Joy:

acting really helps the scene

Danielle Joy:

because. Or the story, because I

Danielle Joy:

completely believed that Serena did not mean

Danielle Joy:

any harm by saying these lines.

Danielle Joy:

Whereas like, in any other situation you might

Danielle Joy:

think that she was competing with Vanessa and being like, oh, you

Danielle Joy:

guys are in a rut. Like, uh, you need to spice it up.

Danielle Joy:

But she just like mentions it offhandedly. And

Danielle Joy:

I completely believe that she wasn't trying to do anything

Danielle Joy:

bad to Vanessa. And I thought that that was really

Danielle Joy:

good because the writing was very much like a competition.

Danielle Joy:

So yeah, this is one of those lines where I thought that the, the acting

Danielle Joy:

definitely helped steer the story in the right

Danielle Joy:

direction.

Steve:

Yeah, that's a really good point.

Leif:

Jenny is trying to get Agnes fitted, who is not

Leif:

being very helpful. Jenny apologizes to Agnes

Leif:

and the two make up. Jenny gets a text from

Leif:

Damian looking for his drugs and Jenny explains the

Leif:

situation to Agnes. Agnes comes up with a plan to

Leif:

get revenge on Damian.

Steve:

First of all, why are you apologizing to

Steve:

Agnes? Yeah, uh, she's the

Steve:

one who was torching

Steve:

your entire plan in front

Steve:

of every investor you went to and

Steve:

then literally torched all of your work.

Steve:

And then you're like, I'm sorry that I stopped inviting you to

Steve:

the meetings that you kept blowing up.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, yeah, I

Danielle Joy:

just.

Steve:

Ugh.

Danielle Joy:

Uh, I don't know why I'm friends with

Danielle Joy:

Agnes. Like, I can understand her wanting to be friends

Danielle Joy:

with Blair and Serena, but like, Agnes literally

Danielle Joy:

has no social clout that Jenny would

Danielle Joy:

want to have.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah. And why

Steve:

are you already. You've just made up

Steve:

with for five minutes and you're telling her about your

Steve:

drug dealing ex boyfriend

Steve:

and exhaust. Yeah, yeah.

Danielle Joy:

And also Agnes says, oh, let's get

Danielle Joy:

revenge on Damian. How?

Danielle Joy:

When? What, what was the Plan.

Danielle Joy:

She just said, come meet us at the show.

Leif:

Yeah, they're gonna show. They're gonna, like, show up the drugs and then flush them down

Leif:

the toilet.

Danielle Joy:

Right. Which also was like, that's gonna be a

Danielle Joy:

huge. Like, he's gonna. He's gonna be mad. That's

Danielle Joy:

not revenge.

Leif:

Well, I think that was, uh, Agnes's whole. She

Leif:

wants chaos. She just wants chaos.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. But Jenny. Jenny should realize that, like, it's just gonna be

Danielle Joy:

chaos. Flushing the. She does

Danielle Joy:

is like, torching the dresses. Like, it's not gonna be good.

Steve:

Right? Yeah.

Leif:

So we have talked in recent episodes how Jenny

Leif:

definitely does need friends. She doesn't really

Leif:

have any friends. So that part I can kind of

Leif:

buy. Kind of bending over backwards to get her friend

Leif:

back.

Danielle Joy:

Mm, that's true. Yeah. Uh, but why that

Danielle Joy:

friend?

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

And then who's the one girl that hates her?

Steve:

Go find Eric.

Danielle Joy:

Go find Eric. I know her and Eric are really good friends.

Leif:

Yeah, he's off, um, on Long island

Leif:

getting revenge.

Danielle Joy:

Yes. That was

Danielle Joy:

also a really good show. You should do that after this one.

Steve:

Which one was that?

Leif:

Revenge.

Danielle Joy:

Revenge.

Steve:

Mhm.

Leif:

Vanessa goes to Serena to ask for advice on how to

Leif:

spice things up unsolicited. Nate

Leif:

suggests two words, roleplay. Serena

Leif:

then suggests a themed date based on one of

Leif:

Dan's favorite films.

Steve:

This kind of goes back to what you were saying about

Steve:

Serena, how that first scene was kind of

Steve:

written almost competitively

Steve:

or could have been very easily, a

Steve:

very catty kind of

Steve:

interaction. And here you have Serena once again,

Steve:

full blown, like, hey, here's something

Steve:

that you could do that Dan would probably like.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Well, this seemed to very much reminded me

Leif:

of season one with the opposite with

Leif:

Serena, uh, going to Vanessa asking for advice on

Leif:

Dan's gift.

Steve:

Oh, right. In season one.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. It's like, does Vanessa know him better or

Danielle Joy:

does Serena know him better?

Steve:

Well, and that's funny because it's Vanessa knows

Steve:

him as a friend and all the friend stuff to

Steve:

do. But Serena knows him romantically.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

So it is kind of different worlds that they're

Steve:

approaching it from.

Danielle Joy:

But again, this scene too. Like, I didn't feel like

Danielle Joy:

Serena was again competing or

Danielle Joy:

showing up Vanessa. Like, I know what he wants.

Danielle Joy:

Like, it just felt very helpful. It felt very

Danielle Joy:

sincere.

Steve:

Yeah. And genuine and

Steve:

friendly.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Eleanor is impressed by Jenny's work and tells her that

Leif:

after the show they should talk about fighting Jenny a permanent

Leif:

position. One of the other assistants, Callie,

Leif:

shows up with Damian's pills retrieved from Jenny's

Leif:

dresser. Agnes is excited to get her chaos.

Leif:

Binge. On. But after Eleanor's praise,

Leif:

Jenny is having second thoughts on blowing things up.

Leif:

Smart choice, Jenny.

Danielle Joy:

Smart, smart, smart, smart.

Steve:

Callie has a name.

Danielle Joy:

I know. I was like, who?

Steve:

Okay, can we talk about her for a second?

Steve:

This person shows up out of

Steve:

fucking nowhere. She is

Steve:

nowhere in this show. Then one day shows up.

Steve:

First of all, here are the pills exactly where you told me

Steve:

they were. Jenny and I put them in this clutch.

Steve:

You told this stranger where to

Steve:

find your drug stash?

Danielle Joy:

She's a named character. All right? She's

Danielle Joy:

clearly friends with Jenny.

Steve:

They must have history.

Leif:

I did have to go with the IMDb to find her name.

Danielle Joy:

Well, good for her. Good for that actress. I mean,

Danielle Joy:

she got a big part in this episode.

Steve:

Yeah, she did great.

Steve:

It's just.

Danielle Joy:

Well, uh, that was not me.

Steve:

Elsa would where your drug

Steve:

stash is.

Danielle Joy:

But also, like, give them the keys to your apartment

Danielle Joy:

and tell them where your drug stash is and,

Danielle Joy:

um, then put them in my club. Like.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

And does she really have time to go run all the

Danielle Joy:

way to Brooklyn and then come back to the Upper east side?

Leif:

Well, that would be at, ah, Lily's.

Danielle Joy:

Oh, they were at Lily's.

Leif:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Oh, they're at Lily's. But still, yeah.

Leif:

Nate and Serena arrive at the bar to meet Chuck and Blair.

Leif:

Chuck explains the whole Jack Bass Empire takeover

Leif:

plot. Chuck's big plan is to get Elizabeth

Leif:

alone so he can appeal to her as a son to his mother.

Leif:

Chuck leaves to do just that. And Serena and

Leif:

Nate, uh, express their doubts on the validity of the

Leif:

DNA test, but Blair asks them to hold off.

Leif:

The running joke of Blair having no friends

Leif:

continues.

Danielle Joy:

Why are they at a bar?

Leif:

Because they're always at a bar.

Leif:

Chuck's depressed. He needs to drink. He needs some whiskey.

Danielle Joy:

He wasn't there, was he?

Leif:

He was there at the beginning of the scene.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Oh, was he? Okay, sorry, my bad.

Steve:

Well, to that point, this whole

Steve:

scene could have been a text. Yeah,

Steve:

Yeah. M. Hey, guys. This is what's going

Steve:

down with Jack. But no,

Steve:

it's like, meet me at this bar so I can tell you what's going on with

Steve:

Jack.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah,

Danielle Joy:

the way that they zip around the city. It just is.

Danielle Joy:

They get from movies so quickly.

Danielle Joy:

Um, but they plant this seed about

Danielle Joy:

the DNA test being faked, and

Danielle Joy:

I'm like, oh, how's this going to play out? That's interesting.

Steve:

Mhm.

Danielle Joy:

We'll talk about that later.

Leif:

At nyu, Dorota finds Blair's

Leif:

air quote friend Brandeis and asks her

Leif:

about her hourly. Right. And if she has around

Leif:

3:30 more friends just like her.

Steve:

It was interesting how much the Columbia dorm

Steve:

looked like Dan's. Outside of Dan's

Steve:

dorm where he met Melissa.

Leif:

No, that is the NYU dorm.

Danielle Joy:

That's the NYU dorms? Yeah.

Leif:

I thought. I want you.

Steve:

Why was Brandeis at nyu?

Leif:

She's at nyu.

Danielle Joy:

That's where Blair is.

Steve:

I thought Brandeis was Columbia.

Leif:

No, those two girls that we

Leif:

just meet this episode are from Columbia.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Where did Blair meet Brandeis again?

Leif:

At the NYU coffee shop.

Steve:

Yeah, but I didn't think Brandeis went to nyu.

Leif:

She did.

Danielle Joy:

Have you watched ahead, Steve? Have you

Danielle Joy:

watched more episodes than you're supposed to?

Steve:

No, no, absolutely not.

Steve:

Not since the very. The first four episodes.

Steve:

I started binging. It was like. You do not get the concept

Steve:

of this show, do you?

Steve:

And, uh, now my poor wife.

Danielle Joy:

Maybe you're getting Brandeis confused with Callie because

Danielle Joy:

they're such important characters.

Steve:

Yeah, that must be it.

Steve:

Callie goes to Columbia, right?

Danielle Joy:

Maybe. Sure.

Danielle Joy:

She's a working girl, so she's out of. Well, wait,

Danielle Joy:

Brandeis is the working girl.

Steve:

Brandeis is the.

Danielle Joy:

But, yeah, Callie's got a job, so maybe she's, uh.

Danielle Joy:

Maybe she's out of college. I don't know. Who cares about Callie?

Steve:

Who cares about Callie?

Danielle Joy:

That's what the name of this episode should have been.

Leif:

Back at the Waldorf penthouse, Jenny leaves the room to

Leif:

wheel out a rack of garment bags with Callie

Leif:

and foolishly trusts Agnes to watch her purse.

Leif:

We, as the audience, see Callie give Agnes a sly

Leif:

smile as she leads Jenny out of the room.

Leif:

Agnes immediately goes for the purse and takes the

Leif:

pills.

Danielle Joy:

Like, why would you. Why,

Danielle Joy:

Jenny?

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

Why are you still trusting this person?

Danielle Joy:

She's still trusting. Yeah.

Steve:

Oh, hey, watch my stuff, okay. Yeah,

Steve:

watch my stuff with all the drugs in it.

Danielle Joy:

It wasn't even that, like, she was about to take her stuff, and Agnes was

Danielle Joy:

like, oh, I'll watch it.

Steve:

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Danielle Joy:

And I was like. But there's like, what

Danielle Joy:

if she gets. What if she gets called away? What if Eleanor needs her to try

Danielle Joy:

out another outfit? Like, what? Like, take your bag.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

And also, what if Eleanor comes by and just, like, happens

Danielle Joy:

to, like, what if Agnes is in the bathroom and

Danielle Joy:

Eleanor sees it or spills or someone bumps into it, et

Danielle Joy:

cetera, et cetera. Anyway, yeah, it's like, this was.

Leif:

In the comic book world. There's a popular phrase called

Leif:

plot induced stupidity.

Danielle Joy:

100%. Yes,

Danielle Joy:

I know. I find this with a lot of shows where I'm just like,

Danielle Joy:

if they just sent a text message or if they just

Danielle Joy:

clarified something really quickly. Or if

Danielle Joy:

someone asked for clarification, none of this would have happened.

Danielle Joy:

And yeah, m. The plot definitely relies

Danielle Joy:

on plot induced stupidity.

Steve:

Yeah. Especially for a character like

Steve:

Jenny, who's not stupid. Yeah, Jenny

Steve:

isn't stupid. Trusting sometimes,

Steve:

but not stupid.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, this was definitely a case of her being trusting

Danielle Joy:

to someone she just made up with 20 seconds

Danielle Joy:

ago.

Leif:

Gossip Girl takes us into the next break with.

Leif:

Careful Jay. The show's about to start, and it

Leif:

looks like Eleanor's line is going to bring the whole new

Leif:

meaning to high fashion.

Leif:

Act three begins. At the fashion show. Blair is

Leif:

telling Serena to leave the Chuck situation alone.

Leif:

Serena is surprised to see Brandis at that

Leif:

event, but Blair points out Brandis's target, Mr.

Leif:

Conwell. The ladies are closed for

Leif:

business, but are just acting as normal college students.

Leif:

When Serena becomes incredulous, Blair points out

Leif:

that prostitutes are people too and have a lot of

Leif:

disposable income.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

So this is where I begin to question a few

Leif:

episodes. Blair got in good with the

Leif:

Tisch kids. She couldn't just, like, hire

Leif:

some actors? Actors?

Danielle Joy:

They would have been way cheaper than $300 an hour. Yeah,

Danielle Joy:

they would have done it for free.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Performance art feat. Don't worry about it.

Danielle Joy:

Performance art. Yeah. Oh,

Danielle Joy:

man. Well, I'll let you know that a lot of those kids there

Danielle Joy:

probably were from Tish the Bell.

Steve:

That's funny.

Leif:

Yes.

Leif:

Not surprising. In Brooklyn, a

Leif:

napping Dan is awakened by a kiss from Vanessa

Leif:

in full Rear Window cosplay.

Steve:

Oh, Christ. Vanessa.

Danielle Joy:

So they left

Danielle Joy:

Lily's, and he was like, see you at 6.

Danielle Joy:

And she was like, maybe 6:30. And then he's

Danielle Joy:

asleep in a chair. What time is it? Like,

Danielle Joy:

how late was she? And how did she have time

Danielle Joy:

to do that whole makeup and hair, get up? And

Danielle Joy:

did she do it at the apartment? Did he fall asleep waiting for her to get

Danielle Joy:

dressed? Did she ride the subway looking like that?

Steve:

Set that whole table in silence?

Leif:

Yeah. While he was sleeping.

Steve:

While he's sleeping uncomfortably in a

Steve:

chair 10ft away.

Danielle Joy:

She drugged him. She absolutely drugged him

Danielle Joy:

with Jenny's pills. Uh,

Danielle Joy:

but, yeah, that was an interesting choice. And he

Danielle Joy:

didn't seem super into it, did he?

Leif:

Yeah, he was like, yeah, I don't really like shellfish.

Danielle Joy:

Well, she said she was gonna make, like, a yummy

Danielle Joy:

noodle dish. Like, why didn't he. Why didn't she just make

Danielle Joy:

that. Does. Is shellfish part of Rear Window?

Leif:

Yeah, it was like a whole. Like, it was the whole recreation of the whole

Leif:

scene.

Danielle Joy:

Oh, okay.

Leif:

Yeah. Uh, at the Show Jenny catches

Leif:

Agnes visibly distributing Damien's pills to the

Leif:

models. Jenny tries to shut it down, but Agnes

Leif:

blackmails her into keeping quiet. Jenny tries to

Leif:

tell Eleanor anyways, but it's too late. The show's about

Leif:

to start. Agnes and Callie still are

Leif:

plotting to take Jenny down.

Danielle Joy:

And, like, what was Jenny going

Danielle Joy:

hoping to do by telling

Danielle Joy:

Eleanor? Because the models were

Danielle Joy:

absolutely fine. Like, it didn't ruin

Danielle Joy:

the show at all.

Leif:

Yeah, they probably have a decent tolerance buildup.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

Especially to that point. Agnes, uh,

Steve:

is just handing out these pills to these models and

Steve:

the models are like, cool pills.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

Oh, all right. Sweet. No one's one of these.

Leif:

I don't care.

Steve:

Yeah. What is this? Is this Tylenol? Is it

Steve:

Necstasy? It's just. Oh, okay. I'm just gonna.

Steve:

Thanks for the random pills.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. And she has no idea what the pills are. There were multiple different

Danielle Joy:

ones, multiple different colors and different sizes. Which ones are she

Danielle Joy:

giving out? Uh. And what is that gonna do to the

Danielle Joy:

models? And then apparently nothing.

Steve:

And who lost their cholesterol medicine for them to get

Steve:

this stash now? Because the last time they

Steve:

had a stash, it was just stuff they stole from Lily.

Leif:

Thanks to some loyal employees. Chuck gets his one on

Leif:

one meeting with Elizabeth. Chuck gets his answer on

Leif:

why she helped Jack, and it's because she loves

Leif:

him. Chuck himself exposes the

Leif:

flawed writing of the storyline when he asks,

Leif:

what kind of person would convince you to

Leif:

do this to me?

Danielle Joy:

That was a great show.

Leif:

Elizabeth tells Chuck that was a great show that she isn't really his

Leif:

mother.

Steve:

Are you fucking serious?

Steve:

My love for the man is just too

Steve:

strong to be a good person.

Steve:

I hated this. Like, that's

Steve:

what you have on her.

Danielle Joy:

That's what he has on her. Uh, and also, like, what?

Danielle Joy:

Like, why? Why does the woman have to be the weak one?

Danielle Joy:

There could have been so many reasons as to why

Danielle Joy:

she was like, uh, listen, I don't know

Danielle Joy:

you, you don't know me. I'm just a horrible person.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

I killed someone in Jack.

Danielle Joy:

I left you once, I'm going to leave you again. Like, what did you expect?

Danielle Joy:

But no, it's because she was in love with your dad's

Danielle Joy:

brother.

Steve:

Yeah. Your dead dad's brother.

Leif:

I mean, make it about money. Like Chuck thought.

Steve:

Yeah, like anything.

Steve:

And again, it goes back to the

Steve:

setup the writers had and the

Steve:

turn they took. It's like.

Steve:

And also him. Yeah,

Steve:

him.

Danielle Joy:

Hm. I know. Yeah. Uh, but Chuck's

Danielle Joy:

acting in this scene I thought was really good in terms

Danielle Joy:

of, like, you don't really get a lot of

Danielle Joy:

emotional crying scenes in Gossip Girl. It's a lot

Danielle Joy:

more betrayal. I mean, this was betrayal as well, but this

Danielle Joy:

was also seeded and rooted in the fact that this

Danielle Joy:

was his mother. It wasn't just like, a friend of his. Like, this was someone

Danielle Joy:

he's been wanting to meet and be with and have a relationship with

Danielle Joy:

his entire life. Um, so his acting in this scene

Danielle Joy:

I thought was amazing and heartbreaking.

Leif:

I did think, uh, Ed's acting was much better in

Leif:

this episode than the past few episodes where he was kind of

Leif:

phoning it in. But

Leif:

yeah, he did do a good job in this episode.

Leif:

Deadmau5 is deejaying the fashion show.

Leif:

Serena tells Nate about Blair's hired friends.

Leif:

Nate gets a call from Chuck, who tells Nate the

Leif:

Empire is gone. Unfortunately,

Leif:

Nate has a, uh, plan.

Steve:

Nate. Aw, are you

Steve:

thinking?

Leif:

So I realized this morning when doing my notes,

Leif:

Nate is basically Tommy boy.

Leif:

He's got a rich family. Most people

Leif:

like him. Um, he's a likable guy. He likes to party,

Leif:

and he's not that smart.

Steve:

Yeah, he's gonna be in college for seven

Steve:

years. Yes. Lots of people go to

Steve:

college for seven years. Yeah, they're called

Steve:

doctors. Um,

Steve:

this was also the scene with that shot of the Brooklyn

Steve:

Bridge behind Chuck when he

Steve:

calls Nate and. Yeah, I loved that

Steve:

shot.

Danielle Joy:

Mhm.

Steve:

Yeah. Oh, Nate, don't do the thinking.

Steve:

Um, we have Blair to thank.

Danielle Joy:

Yes. And Serena tries to

Danielle Joy:

formulate a plan with him too. And I was just like, this is. What are you guys

Danielle Joy:

doing? You're not.

Steve:

And Serena, you can't create a plan that doesn't

Steve:

involve yourself as some kind of honeypot. Like, you

Steve:

only know one way to scheme.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

It's to throw yourself at somebody who's not interested.

Danielle Joy:

Poor Serena.

Steve:

Poor Serena. I keep saying that I just

Steve:

want someone to handcuff Serena and

Steve:

Nate together so they can't see any other pretty

Steve:

shiny objects and just stay together

Steve:

at all times because they're the perfect couple.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, I like how you call them golden retriever couple

Danielle Joy:

as well.

Steve:

Yes, they're our golden retrievers.

Danielle Joy:

They are golden retrievers.

Steve:

They'll go for the. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

They really are the perfect couple.

Steve:

Uh, yeah. I love them together so

Steve:

much. But again, handcuff them together. Don't

Steve:

let them see any shiny

Steve:

other object.

Leif:

Dan shits on Vanessa's lobster, then pulls out

Leif:

two tickets to the student movie theater. This just

Leif:

annoys Vanessa even more about being stuck in a rut,

Leif:

which Dan is still oblivious to. Rufus

Leif:

shows up and immediately Tries to back out when he sees they are on a

Leif:

date. Before he can leave, Vanessa pass him

Leif:

aggressively and invites Rufus to stay for dessert.

Leif:

She then gets up and walks into the other room.

Steve:

It's funny to me. And Dan makes this

Steve:

point at the end, but the whole point

Steve:

to being with your best friend is to

Steve:

continue the relationship you had,

Steve:

right? Like, you're. You're together and you work because

Steve:

you have this history and this great

Steve:

relationship already that you're now adding a

Steve:

layer to. And that was really

Steve:

Dan's point later. But this is where I'm, um,

Steve:

thinking, like, vanessa, why are you making such a big

Steve:

deal of the fact that you're doing the stuff that you've been

Steve:

doing together all along? Why is that a problem?

Danielle Joy:

I was gonna ask you guys, like, whose side are you on? Are you on Dan's

Danielle Joy:

side or Vanessa's side? And it seems like you're on Dan's side.

Steve:

I'm totally.

Leif:

I get both sides.

Danielle Joy:

You're both sides.

Leif:

I understand both sides. I mean, I would

Leif:

be more on the dance side if it was me, but I can see

Leif:

Vanessa's point of view.

Steve:

I feel like it was just too early in the

Steve:

relationship for Vanessa to jump to this.

Steve:

That, like.

Danielle Joy:

I agree.

Leif:

She definitely got inside her head.

Steve:

Yeah, exactly.

Danielle Joy:

And also, like, talk about it first. You

Danielle Joy:

know, again, this is like, if they just talk to each other,

Danielle Joy:

but, uh, if she's like, hey, I feel like

Danielle Joy:

we're in a rut. Can we maybe do a

Danielle Joy:

rear window roleplay next week? Would that

Danielle Joy:

be fun? Instead of just surprising him with it out of

Danielle Joy:

nowhere because Serena put an earworm in

Danielle Joy:

her. You know, like, uh, Dan

Danielle Joy:

had no idea where this was coming from. He was completely

Danielle Joy:

blindsided. Also, Dan's favorite movie is

Danielle Joy:

Rear window.

Leif:

I would be Dan's favorite movie.

Danielle Joy:

Watching other people.

Leif:

I could see that.

Danielle Joy:

Another you reference, maybe.

Leif:

But also, Rufus, he shows up and acts

Leif:

surprised, but they specifically told him they were going to have a

Leif:

ramantic dinner tonight.

Danielle Joy:

Yes. Yes, yes. He knew.

Danielle Joy:

Get out of it, Rufus.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah. You're not even living there.

Leif:

Now he's got to get his 12

Leif:

string, because that's what you need

Leif:

every.

Steve:

Day because we haven't heard every time

Steve:

on a 12 string yet.

Danielle Joy:

Also, like, wouldn't your guitar be the first thing you

Danielle Joy:

move to your new apartment as a musician?

Steve:

Yes.

Leif:

Take over. Ah, Bart's office with all his guitars.

Steve:

My instruments were all safely moved in before,

Steve:

like, all of my instruments and nerd stuff were safely

Steve:

moved in before my clothes.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. What do you need clothes for. No.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, that's what the laundry machine is for.

Steve:

Exactly. Exactly. I can just

Steve:

toss them in. Uh, you know, it's just my wife and I living

Steve:

there who needed. You know.

Leif:

Blair is trying to schmooze Mr. Conwell, but it

Leif:

seems he has spotted the sex workers in the audience.

Leif:

He tells Blair that he would never have that type of

Leif:

clientele associated with his store's

Leif:

Midwest image. Well, I mean, he

Leif:

knew about that a little too easily.

Steve:

Yeah. That was. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

There's nothing he can. There's nothing he can do about

Danielle Joy:

that, though. Those people probably

Danielle Joy:

still shop at his store anyway.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Regardless if Eleanor Waldorf's line is there or not. Like,

Danielle Joy:

he can't. He can't stop that.

Leif:

Has he seen the people of Walmart.com?

Danielle Joy:

I know. You should be lucky for these lovely people shopping

Danielle Joy:

there.

Leif:

Yes. Jenny

Leif:

watches from the wings as Eleanor takes her bow for

Leif:

a successful show. Callie hands Jenny a

Leif:

congratulatory glass of champagne. As Jenny

Leif:

races her glass, she fails to see Callie telling

Leif:

Agnes that she put a triple dose of the pills

Leif:

in Jenny's drink.

Steve:

Why? Does Agnes have a minion?

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. How. How does she have a minion?

Steve:

How.

Danielle Joy:

That's apparently also friends with Jenny, but is like, I've been looking for a way

Danielle Joy:

to screw her over.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

Everyone's just jealous of Jenny because she's so

Leif:

talented.

Steve:

She is just such a talented designer.

Steve:

As Dan is such a talented writer.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. As Rufus is such a talented

Danielle Joy:

musician.

Steve:

And Rufus is a talent. Yes.

Danielle Joy:

Everyone's so talented. Who is only talented

Danielle Joy:

businessman.

Steve:

Yes.

Danielle Joy:

Talented model.

Steve:

Rufus is only not a big

Steve:

celebrity because he chose not

Steve:

to be. Chose to stay home with his kids

Steve:

rather than being

Steve:

a rock star.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Gossip Girl takes us to our next commercial with.

Leif:

We hear Eleanor's show brought down the house.

Leif:

Sounds like a night to remember, if you can.

Steve:

Yeah. Oh, we're

Steve:

just drugging people now.

Leif:

We're just drugging people and making

Leif:

jokes about it.

Danielle Joy:

Again, they gave all the models

Danielle Joy:

one pill. And then Callie was like. And nothing happened. And then

Danielle Joy:

Callie was like, I gave her a triple dose. Of what? Nothing.

Danielle Joy:

Like, yeah, nothing

Danielle Joy:

happened with those pills.

Steve:

She took three metformin.

Danielle Joy:

But also Jenny, like, Agnes hands her the, um.

Danielle Joy:

Agnes hands her the champagne. And Jenny was like,

Danielle Joy:

oh, last time, Eleanor congratulated me herself.

Danielle Joy:

Chug, chug, chug, chug, chug. Like, maybe

Danielle Joy:

that's a hint to, like, not drink the random

Danielle Joy:

champagne that someone just gave you.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Also, Jenny, you're 16, aren't you? Like, you shouldn't be

Danielle Joy:

Drinking.

Leif:

Well, yeah, that's never stopped anyone on this show.

Danielle Joy:

No, I know. Which.

Steve:

That's, uh. It's so funny how we actually

Steve:

hardly talk about that anymore. Where the first

Steve:

half of the first season, we are always talking

Steve:

about. Oh, yeah, and here are these teenagers at a bar just

Steve:

getting pounded at a bar.

Leif:

At least they're in college now.

Steve:

Yeah, at least they're in college now. And a lot of the drinking

Steve:

does take place more at, like, private

Steve:

events or at a, uh,

Steve:

house or a dorm. It's not in

Steve:

bars as much.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

Yeah. All of season one and two.

Leif:

Except for Chuck.

Steve:

Yeah, except for Chuck. But a lot of times it's

Steve:

his bar, too.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, it's his bar. Usually.

Leif:

So we move into Act 4, and the drugs are

Leif:

hitting Jenny hard and fast. She is

Leif:

already stumbling around and asks Agnes what she put in

Leif:

her drink. Agnes rips the fake friendship

Leif:

facade off and tears into Jenny for ruining

Leif:

her life and suffering zero consequences.

Leif:

I don't know about that, Agnes.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, uh, zero consequences. You mean torching her

Danielle Joy:

dresses wasn't enough?

Danielle Joy:

But also, okay, wasn't the plan to

Danielle Joy:

flush these pills. Where's Damian? Did Damian not

Danielle Joy:

show up?

Steve:

Yeah, he never. He never showed up.

Danielle Joy:

He never shows.

Leif:

Well, presumably Jenny texted him and said not to show up.

Danielle Joy:

Oh, okay.

Leif:

She said she was going to. Yeah, she

Leif:

showed that, but she said she was going to back out.

Danielle Joy:

Okay, well, that was a cut scene then.

Leif:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

So it's like, he's still showing up, isn't he? And then

Danielle Joy:

Agnes is. Well, I'll talk about it in a

Danielle Joy:

minute.

Steve:

Yeah, the second part two of her plan.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Uh, anyway, yeah,

Leif:

Nate's plan has gone into effect as Jack arrives at the

Leif:

fashion show looking for Chuck. Nate tells Jack to

Leif:

wait by the bar, and he is immediately surrounded by some of the

Leif:

escorts.

Steve:

Oh, Nate.

Leif:

So high school.

Danielle Joy:

This is like, don't be suspicious. Don't be

Danielle Joy:

suspicious.

Steve:

Don't be suspicious. Don't.

Danielle Joy:

It's like you call me here to meet with my nephew, who is not

Danielle Joy:

here, but all of a sudden, there are tons of women all over me.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Oh, Nate. Rufus

Leif:

is awkwardly trying to make small talk as he is to close,

Leif:

clearly imposing on a date. Vanessa gets up and Rufus

Leif:

whispers some advice to Dan. However, before they realize it,

Leif:

Vanessa is out the door.

Steve:

Why are you sitting there?

Danielle Joy:

Get out of there, Rufus.

Leif:

Like, yeah, just leave.

Steve:

Why did you sit down? You already said you shouldn't sit

Steve:

down. Yeah, why did you sit down?

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Uh, this was probably the funniest scene to me, because

Danielle Joy:

after she leaves, Dan Just goes. She left. All

Danielle Joy:

right. So over it.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Like I said at the beginning, I think that was the intention of

Leif:

this storyline was to bring some humor to the episode.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

And Pen is great at the humor stuff.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

But I just don't care about Dan and Vanessa.

Steve:

Ah, yeah. Yes, completely.

Danielle Joy:

I also just love how Dan is so desperate or was so

Danielle Joy:

desperate to be in this world, and then when they

Danielle Joy:

act the way the world acts, he's just like,

Danielle Joy:

they're out of the. Like, you wanted this.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

At the show, Blair accuses Brandeis of going

Leif:

outside mission parameters. Brandeis, however, is

Leif:

innocent. Mr. Kamala actually recognized a male

Leif:

escort at the party. Seems Mr. Midwest Family

Leif:

man is something of a hypocrite. You can tell how little Blair

Leif:

actually cares about Brandeis by how quickly,

Leif:

uh, she apologizes to her. She would never pause to

Leif:

Sarina that fast.

Steve:

And, uh, yeah. I love her owning this

Steve:

Cornwall guy. Cornwell guy.

Leif:

And that comes next.

Steve:

Oh, I thought that was right there.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

This is just where she confronts Brandeis.

Steve:

Yeah. And Brandeis is like, it's not me.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Yeah. Because.

Leif:

Yeah. Blair immediately takes this new information to

Leif:

blackmail Mr. Conwell into reconsidering Eleanor's line.

Steve:

Yes. Classic Blair.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

This is the scheming Blair that I love.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Not that I condone blackmailing, but, like, come on, this is.

Danielle Joy:

This is the essence of blackmail.

Leif:

The original plan failed, but she goes right to blackmail.

Steve:

And as we've often said, within the morality

Steve:

of this show, uh, she's right

Steve:

on. On cue. You know, she's.

Danielle Joy:

She is the barometer for the show.

Danielle Joy:

She really is the barometer for the show.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

As they and Serena walk towards Jack's limo,

Leif:

Nate explains the plan to take a picture of Jack with the

Leif:

escorts to show to Elizabeth when they open the door,

Leif:

Jack isn't having sex with the women. They are having a

Leif:

conversation about sustainable energy.

Steve:

I love that.

Danielle Joy:

What an easy night for those ladies, huh? Huh?

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

As presumably Nate also paid them.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

But also, I. I would think that a picture like

Danielle Joy:

that would. Would be enough.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Be compromising. You're with two escorts

Danielle Joy:

in your limo. You know, I didn't happen

Danielle Joy:

to catch you in the throes of passion, but you're still

Danielle Joy:

in the limo with them, taking them somewhere. Like I would

Danielle Joy:

put the pieces. Like, that picture would still work, I think.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

So silly.

Leif:

But the one bright side of Nate's plan is that it puts him outside

Leif:

to see a stumbling and nearly passed Jenny

Leif:

being shoved into a cab by Agnes and Callie

Leif:

for the purpose of.

Steve:

Having her sexually assaulted. Like.

Steve:

Like you. Now Agnes is just

Steve:

escalating to accessory

Steve:

to.

Leif:

And presumably that taxi driver heard what they were saying,

Leif:

too.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

So he's kind of eight on a two now.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Like, we haven't. We haven't gotten to that. To that

Danielle Joy:

scene yet. But like you just said, Agnes's

Danielle Joy:

plan was not get

Danielle Joy:

Jenny hammered and then throw her on

Danielle Joy:

stage in the middle of the fashion show and destroy her chances with

Danielle Joy:

Eleanor Waldorf. It was get her hammered,

Danielle Joy:

take her to another location with random men,

Danielle Joy:

and get her date raped.

Steve:

Like, well, she says when she's putting her in the

Steve:

cab, we're going to get this girl laid.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, but how is that revenge?

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Like, just pure evil.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Like, Jenny was stumbling around, and

Danielle Joy:

all she had to do was just push her on stage at the

Danielle Joy:

fashion show.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

And embarrass her in front of Eleanor. Like, why jump

Danielle Joy:

immediately to sexual assault with random

Danielle Joy:

people?

Steve:

Yeah. Just dropping her off at some point.

Danielle Joy:

She didn't know that those men were going to be there.

Steve:

Like, yeah, uh, there's got to be a bachelor party there. There's. You know,

Steve:

there's always a bachelor party.

Danielle Joy:

At this bar, and I love that.

Danielle Joy:

Right after Nate and Serena see Jack,

Danielle Joy:

Nate's like, I'll call Chuck, and Serena's like, I'll

Danielle Joy:

go find Blair. Why? Why? Just to get her

Danielle Joy:

off screen. Right. So that Nate's the only one who

Danielle Joy:

used Jenny. And, like, why couldn't Serena also

Danielle Joy:

be there? I didn't. I didn't understand. Because she never goes and finds

Danielle Joy:

Blair.

Leif:

No.

Steve:

Uh, yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Oh, no, she does. She does eventually. But. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Like, why. Why are you going back to Blair? Because your plan failed.

Danielle Joy:

I don't understand.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Gossip Girl has this to say.

Leif:

Spotted. Little J. Passing out in a taxi.

Leif:

Oh, looks like somebody better call the fashion police.

Leif:

We go into Act 5, and Agnes and her crew

Leif:

dump a barely conscious Jetney off at a bachelor

Leif:

party. Chaotic, evil.

Danielle Joy:

Which lecherous men.

Danielle Joy:

You would think that at least one of them would be decent and be

Danielle Joy:

like, hey, let's get you home. Like, who are you? Like, no

Danielle Joy:

one talks to her. They just leave her on the couch. And then one

Danielle Joy:

guy's like, hey, I'll get her home. And it's like, no, your friends

Danielle Joy:

know that you're being weird.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Stop. Stop him.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah. It's.

Danielle Joy:

They leave her there for, like, ages.

Steve:

Yeah. And the friends I know we haven't gotten.

Leif:

Like, they said she looks like she's 12.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Should you try to help her out Maybe.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Yeah. Uh, but unfortunately,

Leif:

believable.

Danielle Joy:

This whole bachelor party is happening around her passing out on a

Danielle Joy:

couch while all the guys are just, like, standing around being like,

Danielle Joy:

she's sexy. She looks like she's 12. We should get her home. What should

Danielle Joy:

we do about it? And it's just like,

Danielle Joy:

nobody does anything until, like, at the very end, the guy who's

Danielle Joy:

super drunk is like, I'll help her. And it's like, no, you won't.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

Backstage of the show, Conwell, with Blair's

Leif:

encouragement, tells Eleanor that he would love to have her new

Leif:

line in his stores with a few changes.

Leif:

Eleanor, however, is unwilling to compromise her artistic

Leif:

vision and her brand and turns down the offer.

Leif:

Blair, emboldened by her mother's honesty and courage,

Leif:

tells Eleanor about not having any real friends

Leif:

again.

Steve:

I love Eleanor. She's such a fucking boss.

Steve:

She's just like, you want to take my name

Steve:

off of my clothes? No.

Steve:

Absolutely not.

Danielle Joy:

What was this guy's deal? Like, what. Why was he

Danielle Joy:

even there? Like, he knows Eleanor

Danielle Joy:

Waldorf's designs. It's not like she was a new designer.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Why would he even be entertaining this notion

Danielle Joy:

if he didn't think the clothes were going to be

Danielle Joy:

a good fit anyway? I don't know. I thought. I mean, it

Danielle Joy:

was great to see powerful Eleanor Waldorf and

Danielle Joy:

Blair be able to open up to her mom,

Danielle Joy:

but, like, this guy was just obviously

Danielle Joy:

not there for a while.

Leif:

He wanted the free trip to New York so he could meet with his, uh, male

Leif:

escort friend.

Steve:

Really, ultimately, there you go. That is what

Steve:

it looks like.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, you're right. You're right.

Steve:

I also loved.

Steve:

Eleanor does everything she can to try to get

Steve:

me to cry when she. At the end of her

Steve:

episodes. And I think I held it together with this one.

Steve:

But, man, when she was talking with Blair and she's

Steve:

like, the thing about Waldorf women

Steve:

is we don't fit in everywhere. And

Steve:

you. You fit in somewhere you haven't found

Steve:

your place. Like, the thing that her daughter needs

Steve:

so much to hear from her right now, and she

Steve:

just nails it. She just

Steve:

lands that plane. You know,

Steve:

she just really gets through to

Steve:

Blair the way Blair needs it right there. And

Steve:

I just love that Blair has.

Danielle Joy:

The best parents on the show, hands down.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

And also, like I said earlier, these

Steve:

two are two of the best actors on the show,

Steve:

and when they have a scene together, it just is

Steve:

so moving. We've also said one of

Steve:

our favorite scenes is from the second Thanksgiving

Steve:

episode with the two of them and Taylor

Steve:

When Jenny is making up with

Steve:

Blair and Eleanor on Thanksgiving, where

Steve:

that hit me right in the gut.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

So, yeah, I love watching them work.

Danielle Joy:

And it's so good to see as well, because Blair,

Danielle Joy:

when we have scenes with just Blair, like the whole show is

Danielle Joy:

basically Blair and she

Danielle Joy:

is an adult. She acts and

Danielle Joy:

comports herself like an adult. And then when we see her with

Danielle Joy:

her mom, she turns into a kid and, you know, she

Danielle Joy:

gets a little bit more vulnerable. And I think that dynamic

Danielle Joy:

really just the, uh, acting level of it, the

Danielle Joy:

vulnerability of it, it's just. It's. It's really

Danielle Joy:

interesting to see on screen as well.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah, I agree.

Leif:

The bachelor party is getting ready to move on to the next

Leif:

destination. Jenny is still semi conscious. And

Leif:

once sleazeball offers to hang back to take care of

Leif:

blondie, a slurring Jenny takes a call

Leif:

from Nate, who is thankfully able to track her phone,

Leif:

which.

Danielle Joy:

How. How is he tracking her phone?

Leif:

Um, I mean, find my phone was a

Leif:

thing at that point.

Steve:

Was it?

Danielle Joy:

But, like, why would. Why would Nate be able to track Jenny?

Danielle Joy:

It's just funny.

Steve:

It's convenient. Yeah, it is.

Danielle Joy:

The thing about Gossip Girl is they had a lot of,

Danielle Joy:

um, contracts with different

Danielle Joy:

phone providers. Oh, yeah, There were always a lot

Danielle Joy:

of. That's why Gossip Girl pops up on the phones. And there's a lot of

Danielle Joy:

insert shots of a phone or like they're using the phone in

Danielle Joy:

a way that you wouldn't expect to use it. So this Find My

Danielle Joy:

Friend.

Steve:

Throwing it in the trash.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. In your phone. I know they

Danielle Joy:

just disposable, but yeah. So this

Danielle Joy:

Find My Friend feature was probably something that the company

Danielle Joy:

was like, hey, we need to feature this. And

Danielle Joy:

they wrote it into the episode as a way to do that. So that's

Danielle Joy:

what I'm thinking because they did a lot of that.

Leif:

Mhm.

Danielle Joy:

Throughout the show, where the phones were essentially like

Danielle Joy:

another character on the show as well.

Steve:

Oh, that.

Leif:

Let's bing it.

Danielle Joy:

Binging.

Leif:

I think that gets big in season five. I think

Leif:

everyone has to. Let's bing it.

Danielle Joy:

Let's bang the fuck up. Noah says that there was

Danielle Joy:

one. I think you might have seen this episode already, but there was one

Danielle Joy:

where Blair turns on music. It's Flo

Danielle Joy:

Rida, and she's listening to her phone walking down

Danielle Joy:

a hallway. It's Flo Rida, get low or something.

Danielle Joy:

I just remember that being like, oh, you can listen to music on your

Danielle Joy:

phone now. It was one of those

Danielle Joy:

insert shots. So, yes, the phones are another character on the show. So

Danielle Joy:

I'M assuming that this is one of those things

Danielle Joy:

where they were trying to show a feature of the phone, little

Danielle Joy:

product placement.

Steve:

Yeah, that makes sense.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Dan finds Vanessa at her dorm and invites

Leif:

her on a surprise romantic second.

Danielle Joy:

First date, which Vanessa,

Danielle Joy:

she got out of that makeup and hair so quickly

Danielle Joy:

and put on new makeup and did her hair so quickly.

Steve:

Like, took off the fake lashes, then

Steve:

redid her mascara.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

She must have done on the subway ride home or something.

Danielle Joy:

She should be in a lounge bar set. Hair and a

Danielle Joy:

bun, no makeup. What are you

Danielle Joy:

doing?

Steve:

And also. Just shut up.

Steve:

Just stop, Vanessa. Uh, just stop.

Danielle Joy:

I'm sorry it didn't work out the way you wanted to, but let's not

Danielle Joy:

pout. Please

Danielle Joy:

take the L and just be like, well, that didn't work. Let's

Danielle Joy:

go see some shows, like, hang out with your

Danielle Joy:

boyfriends.

Steve:

Do the thing that you love doing with your boyfriend.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Elizabeth calls Chuck for a final meeting and

Leif:

tells him that she tried to get Jack to give the

Leif:

hotel back to Chuck, but Jack chose the hotel

Leif:

over her. With nothing left,

Leif:

Elizabeth is returning to Zurich. Chuck asks

Leif:

her to stay for him, but she tells him that she isn't

Leif:

really his mother. And Jack faked the DNA test.

Danielle Joy:

Duh.

Steve:

So much.

Leif:

But that he. But she didn't though, right?

Danielle Joy:

Well, duh. To the. To the. Jack doesn't love her.

Leif:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Like, duh, Jack doesn't love you. Jack was clearly using

Danielle Joy:

you. And you should have known that if you've known him for

Danielle Joy:

20 years because you knew his brother.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

You've known Jack for a long time.

Steve:

And the whole, like, stay for me, though. Stay for

Steve:

me. Chuck, how much do you really mean to this

Steve:

person? How much have they demonstrated you

Steve:

really mean to them?

Danielle Joy:

Um, yeah. But he still wants his mom.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

And the. And the only way that he could, uh, she could get

Danielle Joy:

rid of him was to say that she wasn't his mom.

Danielle Joy:

And that's when he sort of gives up, which is also heartbreaking.

Danielle Joy:

Like, he, like learning that the woman

Danielle Joy:

that you want to have so desperately want to have a relationship with

Danielle Joy:

faked a DNA test to steal your hotel from you.

Danielle Joy:

The only thing that's really, like, your family.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Only thing you have left of your family. That's.

Danielle Joy:

That's terrible.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

That's heartbreaking.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Nate arrives at the club and overhears the bachelor party

Leif:

talking about a very young looking girl.

Leif:

Nate arrives just in time to stop the sleaze ball from sneaking

Leif:

Jenny back to his apartment. And Nate escorts Jenny out

Leif:

of the club.

Steve:

These dudes know that their friend

Steve:

is about to. To assault

Steve:

a minor, and they're like, man, that guy's

Steve:

in there. All right? Like, man, someone should get him away

Steve:

from her. It's like you.

Danielle Joy:

You.

Steve:

If you're recognizing that, you should get him

Steve:

away from her.

Danielle Joy:

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Steve:

Yes. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Then also, a random guy

Danielle Joy:

comes in and steals this blonde

Danielle Joy:

chick away, and no one stops him. No one knows who Nate

Danielle Joy:

is. Yeah, Nate just says, jenny and

Danielle Joy:

picks her up, and you're like, oh, she's fine.

Danielle Joy:

Like, you don't know who he is either.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Where are the bartenders and all this?

Danielle Joy:

Um, yeah. Bartender would clearly get her someone.

Leif:

I mean, some. Someone should have

Leif:

fixed this.

Steve:

Yeah. She should have been. Yeah.

Steve:

In an ambulance by now,

Steve:

leaving the bar.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. There were no girls at this bar. Like,

Danielle Joy:

female solidarity. Like, if I saw her, I'd be like, let me look in your

Danielle Joy:

purse. Where do you live? You know, like.

Steve:

Yeah, exactly.

Danielle Joy:

Home. There were no women in this bar at all

Danielle Joy:

to help her.

Steve:

Uh.

Leif:

But Gossip Girl has this to say.

Leif:

Uh, it seems chivalry isn't dead

Leif:

after all. Lucky for this damsel in a

Leif:

dress, some things never go out of fashion.

Leif:

We go into the epilogue, and by this time, Nate

Leif:

has gotten Jenny home. She is sobered up enough to get past

Leif:

Rufus and get to her room. Rufus thanks

Leif:

Nate for seeing her home. And Nate is about to leave when

Leif:

he realizes he's still holding Jenny's bag.

Danielle Joy:

Jenny sobered up so quick,

Danielle Joy:

he wrote.

Steve:

The same thing down.

Danielle Joy:

I was like, I have never in my life.

Danielle Joy:

I've never taken pills. But also,

Danielle Joy:

I've been drunk, and I am hungover for a

Danielle Joy:

day. She was like, all right, I'm just gonna go to bed now.

Steve:

Uh, what were those

Steve:

pills? Right?

Danielle Joy:

Clearly nothing, because nobody was affected

Danielle Joy:

by them.

Steve:

They're forget me nows.

Danielle Joy:

And then also, Rufus got back

Danielle Joy:

to the apartment really quickly.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Like, he was just in Brooklyn, right?

Steve:

Yeah. Yep, he was.

Leif:

Well, presumably some time has passed, because

Leif:

they. They did say, like, presumably enough time for them

Leif:

to have walked all the way home from the show, because that's. That was the excuse

Leif:

of why they were late.

Steve:

Oh, that is true.

Leif:

Okay, so the Rufus part is definitely more

Leif:

believable. But, yeah, you would think Jenny would be still a little

Leif:

more than influence.

Danielle Joy:

She would be. She would be sneaking in

Danielle Joy:

past her dad, like, hey, Nate, you

Danielle Joy:

go in first, distract my dad upstairs, and then I'll sneak

Danielle Joy:

in, you know, like, uh, there's no way she Would be

Danielle Joy:

sober.

Leif:

Uh, uh, speaking of Rufus, I know

Leif:

Nate's trustworthy and all that, but you just kind of leave

Leif:

him standing in the foyer. That just seems, like, bad and matters.

Leif:

I'm going to go to bed now. See you, Nate.

Steve:

Take it easy.

Danielle Joy:

No one cares about these kids. None of the parents care about these kids.

Steve:

None.

Leif:

Serena congratulates Blair for finally being honest with

Leif:

her mother. When Blair is approached by three Columbia

Leif:

students who recognize her because everyone at Columbia reads

Leif:

Gossip Girl, Blair compliments one's shoes,

Leif:

but then corrects her on the placement of her headband. Bow. Uh,

Leif:

Blair asks Serena what she knows about

Leif:

Columbia.

Danielle Joy:

This is me.

Steve:

Yay.

Danielle Joy:

Finally. Yes. I

Danielle Joy:

appreciate you saying I was one of the models, but this is me.

Steve:

Well, I actually had the thought of

Steve:

could you have done both because they were such different

Steve:

scenes. Could they have been like, switch your outfit.

Steve:

Get. You know. Yeah, but.

Steve:

Yeah, so. But that

Steve:

does make a lot of sense.

Danielle Joy:

I am the one that doesn't talk because

Danielle Joy:

I was just picked from a random background

Danielle Joy:

person. Um, yeah, they. The

Danielle Joy:

director. So in Gossip Girl, there's

Danielle Joy:

this trope of, like, everyone has to be in three. So

Danielle Joy:

there's, like, Blair and her two minions, and, like, you know, so like, there's

Danielle Joy:

a trope of there being three. So they had the

Danielle Joy:

two girls that.

Steve:

Were hired, Marissa Fumero

Steve:

and Alice Callahan.

Danielle Joy:

Both of them were so nice. And they

Danielle Joy:

had those two cast already. And so the director was like, we

Danielle Joy:

need a third. We need a third person to walk up with them.

Danielle Joy:

So he picked. Or someone picked a PA. Picked like 6 to

Danielle Joy:

10 girls and lined us all up. And

Danielle Joy:

I was chosen with another girl by the director.

Danielle Joy:

And then I was wearing what I was wearing. And then the other

Danielle Joy:

girl was wearing the silky blue, uh,

Danielle Joy:

shirt. And the director turned to one of the PAs and was like,

Danielle Joy:

what are the girls wearing? And they said, oh,

Danielle Joy:

they're wearing these frilly shirts. And I was wearing a frilly

Danielle Joy:

shirt. And that is why I got picked. So

Danielle Joy:

because I matched the aesthetic, I was

Danielle Joy:

chosen.

Steve:

Wow. That.

Leif:

We're definitely of that era.

Danielle Joy:

Yes.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

They were both so, so nice. Very,

Danielle Joy:

very welcoming and, uh, chatty

Danielle Joy:

when we weren't filming. So they were both very, very nice.

Leif:

Fun.

Steve:

I recognized. Can't remember if it's Melissa or

Steve:

Marissa Fumaro.

Leif:

Melissa.

Steve:

Melissa. But she was on Brooklyn. Nine. Nine.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

And I always had a thing for her

Steve:

when she'd come on. And my wife always.

Steve:

It's like a long running joke. So when she showed up, she

Steve:

goes, great, your girl's here.

Danielle Joy:

And now you met another one of the ones in that scene, so.

Steve:

Yeah. Yes. Yeah. That's awesome.

Danielle Joy:

But yeah, so Brooklyn Nine Nine was after that. So she was,

Danielle Joy:

um, talking about how she was a huge, like,

Danielle Joy:

soap actress.

Steve:

Oh, okay.

Danielle Joy:

Mostly soaps. Um, so we were talking about that

Danielle Joy:

backstage, and then we did that, and then she got on Brooklyn

Danielle Joy:

Nine Nine, and I was like, go, you.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Because she was really nice. Good for her. Um,

Danielle Joy:

yeah.

Steve:

That's awesome.

Leif:

Nate goes to Jenny's room to return her purse and finds

Leif:

her fighting depression. Nate tries to cheer her

Leif:

up, but nothing seems to get through to Jenny. Until she gets a

Leif:

text from Eleanor telling her that she's hired

Leif:

Jenny. Hugs and thanks Nate for saving her. As

Leif:

Nate gets up to leave, Jenny gets a

Leif:

schemey look on her face

Leif:

again.

Danielle Joy:

Agnes's plan could have been so much better if she

Danielle Joy:

just kept Jenny at the fashion

Danielle Joy:

event in front of Eleanor Waldorf. If Agnes really

Danielle Joy:

wanted revenge, that's what would happen. People need to

Danielle Joy:

consult Blair and Chuck when they want a scheme.

Danielle Joy:

There's just no point in anyone else doing any scheming.

Steve:

And Nate is such a good big brother friend.

Steve:

He's so. And you had mentioned the big brother

Steve:

thing earlier, and I

Steve:

really love how he treats Jenny.

Steve:

Although you. It's not the same both

Steve:

ways. Jenny obviously

Steve:

has a thing for Nate. Oh, that was.

Danielle Joy:

Ah.

Steve:

Yeah. And I get it. You know,

Steve:

Nate is. I mean, he's Nate.

Steve:

He's not a bad catch.

Danielle Joy:

No, he's cute and he's nice and he's friendly.

Danielle Joy:

But yeah, he's definitely like a good older

Danielle Joy:

brother to Jenny. And, uh, he's never. He's never

Danielle Joy:

been. As far as I can remember, he's never been anything

Danielle Joy:

more to her. Like, he doesn't.

Steve:

They.

Leif:

They definitely had a few kisses in season three.

Danielle Joy:

Oh, did they?

Steve:

Yeah, they had a very.

Danielle Joy:

Cut that out.

Steve:

Well, it was. It was a short, and it just.

Leif:

Happened to happen while he was. Nate was living with them

Leif:

too, so. Because he was more of your brother than ever.

Danielle Joy:

Oh, yeah.

Steve:

Uh, yeah. And then. And then Dan

Steve:

ended up. That blew up Dan and Nate's

Steve:

relationship, and

Steve:

that broke up Jenny and Nate,

Steve:

and that kind of pushed Nate and Vanessa together.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, I don't remember the earlier seasons that well.

Leif:

In season one, I thought Dan was a good brother to Jenny, but

Leif:

then in season two, he started taking his cues from Rufus.

Steve:

Yes. And a lot more.

Steve:

The patriarchal parenting

Steve:

of Rufus, of my son is

Steve:

free to explore his creative interests. But

Steve:

my little girl needs to stay in school and

Steve:

be a good Little.

Danielle Joy:

Kid, but also, like, I

Danielle Joy:

know Rufus got this job for Jenny,

Danielle Joy:

but this fashion show went on until the wee

Danielle Joy:

hours of the morning, and Rufus was a.

Danielle Joy:

Okay with Jenny staying out that late without a chaperone.

Danielle Joy:

He was like, oh, yeah. Thanks, Nate, for bringing her home. Like, how did you think she was going

Danielle Joy:

to get home? Dan was doing nothing

Danielle Joy:

that night. Like, aside from the fact that

Danielle Joy:

Vanessa wanted him to have a

Danielle Joy:

date night. But both of them, um, should have been at the

Danielle Joy:

fashion show watching over Jenny.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

Especially because while Jenny's grounded, the

Steve:

whole thing was, you go to school. You.

Steve:

You are escorted from class to class. You have

Steve:

lunch with the principal, you go back to being

Steve:

escorted from class to class, and then you're escorted home,

Steve:

and now it's.

Danielle Joy:

But go to this fashion show on your own.

Leif:

Uh, that was just the last episode, and that.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Dan absolutely should have been at that fashion show. It's not

Danielle Joy:

like he didn't know people there. Yeah, he absolutely should have been

Danielle Joy:

there watching over Jenny.

Leif:

Anyway, m. Yep. Dan's

Leif:

romantic date is takeout and progress in

Leif:

Vanessa's dorm room. But really, it's his words that

Leif:

seal the deal for him. They kiss, and Gossip Girl

Leif:

begins her closing monologue.

Danielle Joy:

Nope. This was. I would be so angry at

Danielle Joy:

Dan if I were Vanessa. I'd be so

Danielle Joy:

angry.

Steve:

No, let me show you exactly why. You're right.

Danielle Joy:

Thank you. Those are the words I want

Danielle Joy:

to hear. Thank you.

Steve:

Yeah. No, no, no. Uh, I'm gonna just lay out for you that you

Steve:

were right all along, and here is why.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Hey, maybe she just really likes to be right.

Steve:

And it's funny.

Leif:

It seemed to work. It seemed to work.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, I just. I, uh.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

If I. If someone promised me the most romantic date ever

Danielle Joy:

and then did the same thing that I was just complaining about that

Danielle Joy:

I didn't want to do

Danielle Joy:

and then said, but this is the most romantic date, I'd be like,

Danielle Joy:

all right, we're broken up now. Bye.

Danielle Joy:

Like, clearly, I need more. Like, uh, yeah.

Steve:

Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

I was so mad.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

But Dan being Dan.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Nate finds Serena on the street, and the two kiss.

Leif:

Uh, not much happens. They just kind of find each other.

Danielle Joy:

Aw.

Leif:

Jenny is on her laptop reading a Gossip Girl blast

Leif:

entitled the Golden Couple, featuring a picture of

Leif:

Nate and Serena.

Steve:

Golden retriever couple.

Danielle Joy:

So true.

Steve:

But again, here you see Jenny

Steve:

plotting that. You can see that she wants to get

Steve:

in between them.

Danielle Joy:

Leave it alone, Jenny.

Steve:

Uh, she's so hurt.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

I mean, I get it, though, because, I mean, Nate is just, like,

Leif:

constantly saving her. I Mean, she can't help it. She

Leif:

can't help falling in love with him.

Steve:

And the previous episode when she said she

Steve:

looked him dead in the eye and said, well, you're not available,

Steve:

you know?

Leif:

And, uh, yet he's still there.

Steve:

And yet he's still there.

Danielle Joy:

But it's not like he was there because he had a fight with Serena.

Danielle Joy:

Uh, he was there because he happened to be the one

Danielle Joy:

available.

Steve:

Yeah. And saw her shoved into a cab.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Leif:

Stay tuned for next week.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Jack is in Chuck's suite, drinking alone, staring

Leif:

out the window like Lex Luthor. Jack picks up

Leif:

his phone and calls Elizabeth in a last ditch

Leif:

effort to get her to stay. Instead, Elizabeth

Leif:

is more disgusted by Jack than ever and hates herself for

Leif:

ever having loved him. Their party,

Leif:

uh, their party words imply that Elizabeth is really Chuck's

Leif:

mother. And as Elizabeth car pulls away from the

Leif:

hotel, we see that she once again repaired

Leif:

the locket containing the picture of Bart and Elizabeth

Leif:

holding baby Chuck.

Steve:

Please be gone forever.

Danielle Joy:

This was so sad, though, because I had forgotten

Danielle Joy:

that she was actually his mom. And when she said we

Danielle Joy:

faked it, I was like, oh, yeah, makes sense, right?

Danielle Joy:

But she is actually his mom and she did all of that to him

Danielle Joy:

because Chuck even says to her, my mom would never do this.

Danielle Joy:

And then she was like, well, I'm not your mom. I was like, okay, that makes sense.

Danielle Joy:

But then she is his mom and she did that to him.

Danielle Joy:

And I was. I was very sort of quite a.

Steve:

Roller coaster with her.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah.

Steve:

Uh, the other thing. Jack, right?

Steve:

The way Jack is upset

Steve:

that she's leaving and doesn't want her to.

Steve:

That he does actually seem to love this

Steve:

person, despite being

Steve:

a horrible human being.

Leif:

I think love is a little strong. I think he likes having her around.

Leif:

The convenience. Having someone that

Leif:

loves him and is willing to do anything,

Leif:

including betraying her own son for him.

Steve:

Yeah, I mean, well, you know,

Steve:

it is a green flag, you know, if someone's willing to

Steve:

screw over my kids for me. I, uh,

Steve:

you know, that's a.

Leif:

You really love me.

Steve:

That's keeper. Come on, Robin.

Danielle Joy:

He definitely thought that she could be useful as

Danielle Joy:

a pawn later on to manipulate Chuck. Uh,

Danielle Joy:

but then she tells him, I told him he wasn't my son.

Danielle Joy:

And then he was like, ah.

Steve:

Ah.

Danielle Joy:

Okay, nevermind.

Leif:

Yeah, peace.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, like you're useless. Bye.

Leif:

Blair is hanging a Columbia pendant in her dorm room

Leif:

when Chuck knocks on the door. It looks like Chuck and

Leif:

Blair are ready to go to war with Uncle Jack.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, this is my favorite. Chuck and Blair scheming

Danielle Joy:

Yeah. Love them together.

Leif:

And then Gossip Girl closes the episode with,

Leif:

if you are what you wear, you better dress the part

Leif:

you want. A few lucky ladies can do

Leif:

no wrong. Their looks perfection,

Leif:

and they've got accessories to match. But most

Leif:

girls get tired of the same old look, and they'll do

Leif:

just about anything to get the hot new piece

Leif:

on their arm. And then there are those with no

Leif:

vision of their own. Thieves of fashion that will

Leif:

steal the shirt off your back. And always remember,

Leif:

appearances can be misgiving. But whatever you

Leif:

wear, always dressed to kill.

Leif:

XOXO Gossip

Leif:

Girl. And that is the episode.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

What is coming next?

Steve:

My number one prediction is,

Steve:

first of all, Jenny is going to go after

Steve:

Nate and Serena. Jenny's going to try to

Steve:

break them up and go for Nate. I also

Steve:

believe Blair is looking for a

Steve:

change of scenery. I think we might see her try to

Steve:

transfer to Colombia. That she definitely

Steve:

is more interested in and

Steve:

knows that she has potential minions and friends

Steve:

at Columbia. So that'd be. That'd be

Steve:

interesting. Except then we have Dan and

Steve:

Vanessa at NYU and Nate

Steve:

and. And Blair at

Steve:

Columbia, and we're back to having this

Steve:

separate show again, which we're already getting

Steve:

into with that couple.

Leif:

I consider. They never actually show class.

Leif:

I don't think that really matters. They're all going to school

Leif:

in New York.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Danielle Joy:

You don't know. If they don't show class.

Leif:

They haven't yet. We're almost.

Leif:

Almost one full season in through college years.

Steve:

Yeah. I don't have they. I think we

Steve:

saw, what, two high school class

Steve:

scenes? I think that there were only one or two

Steve:

the entire time they were in high school, and I think

Steve:

that at least one. Mrs. Carson.

Leif:

Yeah, they were, like, outside the classroom, too. They were in the hallway.

Leif:

They weren't even in the classroom.

Steve:

Yeah, there's no drinking at the schools,

Steve:

so they can't. They're not going to shoot there.

Danielle Joy:

Clearly.

Leif:

Uh, any other predictions?

Danielle Joy:

I have one.

Leif:

Oh, okay.

Danielle Joy:

I think Callie is going to get her own spin off show.

Danielle Joy:

No, I won't see predictions because obviously I've seen this.

Leif:

The Callie Diaries.

Steve:

The Callie Diaries.

Steve:

Those two were my big predictions.

Steve:

I'm going to optimistically predict that we're done

Steve:

with Elizabeth, at least for a while. I'm hoping.

Leif:

So we never see that

Leif:

actress again.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Uh, she's getting the Scott treatment.

Steve:

Yes. Only with Scott, it's. We'll never

Steve:

lose touch because we're a family.

Steve:

So. Yeah, that. And my other big thing

Steve:

is Chuck and Blair are now going to war

Steve:

against Jack. So I'm gonna make

Steve:

this a two way. It is either

Steve:

going to be Chuck and Blair out,

Steve:

scheme Jack and get the hotel back,

Steve:

or Chuck and Blair scheme

Steve:

against Jack to get the hotel back. But it

Steve:

breaks them up. So that's my

Steve:

other big thing is that this like

Steve:

split with Jack that whatever

Steve:

it comes out to is going to be too costly

Steve:

to keep them together. That's my. I feel

Steve:

like they set such a bomb in the last

Steve:

episode with Blair being so

Steve:

supportive. I feel like that even though

Steve:

that bomb seemed to be forgotten this episode, I

Steve:

feel like it's still ticking. Those are my

Steve:

predictions.

Leif:

Let's get into segments. This week in

Leif:

Phantom, we jumped into the Wayback Machine to travel to

Leif:

the fan forums from 2010.

Leif:

Hello there, Peabody here. And this is the

Leif:

Wayback Machine for traveling through time. And this is

Leif:

my boy, Sherman. Speak Sherman.

Steve:

Hello. Good boy.

Leif:

Overall thoughts? They again liked the episode.

Steve:

They loved the soap operas.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

The 2010 fans

Steve:

love the soap opera shit.

Danielle Joy:

This show had a chokehold

Danielle Joy:

on, uh, everyone when it first came

Danielle Joy:

out. Like everyone was watching this show. It

Danielle Joy:

was so popular. The fashion was

Danielle Joy:

inspired. Like every single store carried fashions

Danielle Joy:

inspired by this show. I'm not surprised that people

Danielle Joy:

loved it.

Steve:

Yeah, I actually there's somebody that

Steve:

I'm friends with that we talked about having

Steve:

on the show at some point, but I don't know if she's

Steve:

ever really, uh, talk to us about it

Steve:

much. But it was exactly like you said, that

Steve:

her entire fashion sense was

Steve:

developed watching Gossip Girl

Steve:

that, uh, uh, just how much of an impact

Steve:

it had across the board.

Steve:

Which is why we comment on the fashion

Steve:

of it. Which my wife again

Steve:

thinks the funniest thing to hear is me talk about

Steve:

fashion. But

Steve:

it was just so iconic that you can't not talk

Steve:

about it. And we can't not talk about, um,

Steve:

Eric Damon, right? Yeah, yeah, we like to

Steve:

shout out Eric Damon, the fashion design, the director

Steve:

of the show a lot because of

Steve:

especially see the first two seasons. This season

Steve:

hasn't been as eye

Steve:

catching, I feel, as the previous two,

Steve:

but it still happens a lot.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, the wardrobe department, they were also very nice

Danielle Joy:

and they worked really hard on

Danielle Joy:

everything. I've got lots of stories about that too.

Steve:

Oh, cool.

Leif:

Uh, so they also pointed out Agnes is, uh, kind of

Leif:

like Jenny's Georgina.

Steve:

Yeah, I had that thought of.

Steve:

She's a Georgina wild card.

Leif:

But specifically Georgina goes after

Leif:

Sarita.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Agnes goes after Jenny.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

And they feel bad for Jenny, but they were already

Leif:

ready to attack her when she inevitably

Leif:

tries to Steal Nate.

Leif:

So they're ready to pounce on her.

Leif:

But someone did point out that Serena lost the moral high

Leif:

ground on that barstool on the pilot. And also

Leif:

just a few weeks ago, was going after Tripp, who was a married man.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Maybe a little bit of carbide on her part.

Steve:

I mean. Yeah.

Leif:

And the potential Serena

Leif:

Jenny triangle dominated most of the discussion.

Leif:

Um, but they also hated Jack and his evil

Leif:

facial hair.

Steve:

He looks terrible.

Danielle Joy:

Who wouldn't?

Danielle Joy:

I don't know how Chuck's mom didn't realize that he was evil. From

Danielle Joy:

that.

Steve:

From the mustache.

Danielle Joy:

From the mustache. Bad hair. Like,

Danielle Joy:

yeah. Like it's supposed to be a very fashionable show. And he shows up

Danielle Joy:

and you're like, eh.

Steve:

Uh, yeah.

Leif:

And then a lot of Ed Westwick praise, as usual.

Leif:

Moving into the episode grade.

Leif:

It is my week to go first,

Leif:

so. Yeah, once again, not a great

Leif:

episode. The Jenny storyline was

Leif:

interesting, but definitely made me very uncomfortable at the

Leif:

end. I guess that

Leif:

technically can be considered good art, but.

Leif:

Yeah, it makes me realize that I am

Leif:

happy that they shoot these teen shows with 20 year

Leif:

olds.

Danielle Joy:

Ah.

Leif:

And not actual teenagers, because that kind of stuff just is

Leif:

uncomfortable to watch when they're actual teenagers.

Steve:

Yeah, it really is.

Leif:

Uh, I ended up giving this one a D.

Leif:

Daniel, how did you grade the episode?

Danielle Joy:

Uh, I had a hard time with this, but I think I'm going to give it

Danielle Joy:

a B.

Leif:

Okay.

Danielle Joy:

For the reasoning. The reasoning I have is the.

Danielle Joy:

The acting I really enjoyed, like I was. We

Danielle Joy:

talked about throughout the episode. The lines that I thought could have been

Danielle Joy:

taken one way were acted very nicely and sincerely.

Danielle Joy:

Um, Chuck with his emotion

Danielle Joy:

Elizabeth. Um, Eleanor and Blair

Danielle Joy:

with their mother daughter scenes. Uh,

Danielle Joy:

and that's why I gave it the B rating

Danielle Joy:

and the pluses, because I was in it.

Leif:

Fair enough.

Steve:

Fair.

Leif:

Steve, what do you got?

Steve:

Well, I mean, yes, the

Steve:

scene work by the extras in this was

Steve:

fantastical. Fantastical. Thank you. I mean, we have to

Steve:

really point that out. Um, great

Steve:

work. Especially when you have the acting where

Steve:

you have to do it all expressive. You don't have the lines

Steve:

and you just. And it's all pure what you're

Steve:

bringing to the table. Phenomenal acting on the extras

Steve:

parts, I will say that.

Danielle Joy:

Thank you. Thank you.

Steve:

Um, I gave this episode a C

Steve:

minus. I love,

Steve:

love Eleanor. I love her in every

Steve:

episode she's ever in. I love the

Steve:

fashion show episodes for

Steve:

the energy that they bring to the show

Steve:

and the recurring theme

Steve:

that they have. I hated Agnes. I

Steve:

hated the Agnes story.

Steve:

I hated the, um, Dan and Vanessa

Steve:

Storyline so much. I

Steve:

hated the Elizabeth and Jack storyline.

Steve:

These three main storylines. Well, the

Steve:

two main ones, I hated how they were playing

Steve:

out. I loved the Blair storyline.

Steve:

The Blair storyline, her and Eleanor.

Steve:

The callback to Brandeis. Blair

Steve:

thinking to bring in call girls.

Steve:

Uh, it's so Blair. I loved

Steve:

that. And so that saved it from being a

Steve:

D to me. But that and,

Steve:

like I said, the stellar scene work by the extras.

Steve:

So I went with a C minus.

Leif:

Moving over to Stockwatch

Leif:

for me, I had going up. Jack, because even though

Leif:

he's horrible and the worst, he is

Leif:

definitely succeeding in what he's trying to do. Eleanor,

Leif:

because she had artistic integrity and had a

Leif:

successful fashion show. Nate, because he

Leif:

saved the day. Uh, it was very close to be

Leif:

another nothing episode to Nate, but he did come through at the

Leif:

end. I did give Dan up

Leif:

because even though he was oblivious,

Leif:

he was basically living the male pornographic fantasy.

Leif:

Good for him, I guess. And then Rufus, because for

Leif:

once he was actually. He gave good advice to both his

Leif:

kids in this episode, I thought. And Jenny, even

Leif:

though things almost ended terribly,

Leif:

she did come out kind of ahead in the end.

Leif:

Danielle, who do you have going up?

Danielle Joy:

Callie going up,

Danielle Joy:

definitely. I think we're going to see big things

Danielle Joy:

from her in the future. I

Danielle Joy:

can't get over it. I'm sorry. Um,

Danielle Joy:

yeah. Ah, the Columbia girls.

Steve:

Girl.

Danielle Joy:

We'Re done now. We don't have to do the rest of the podcast.

Steve:

Yeah, we're good.

Danielle Joy:

You guessed it. The Columbia

Danielle Joy:

girls definitely going up. I feel like we're gonna see some more of

Danielle Joy:

them. Blair going

Danielle Joy:

up, just because I always love her and always.

Danielle Joy:

I think I sort of had Chuck

Danielle Joy:

both going up and down, or I guess staying neutral then,

Danielle Joy:

because he was devastated by his mom and

Danielle Joy:

losing the hotel.

Danielle Joy:

But he thrives on

Danielle Joy:

having a plan and scheming, so I think we're going

Danielle Joy:

to see him rise a bit more in

Danielle Joy:

the upcoming episodes as well. And, uh, Nate going up

Danielle Joy:

because he's just a great older brother. Everyone else was just,

Danielle Joy:

meh, Steve.

Steve:

All right, I had. First of all, I had Eleanor going up

Steve:

and Blair. I thought that they.

Steve:

Even though Blair kind of had a down episode, it was

Steve:

such an uplifting end for her. I felt like she

Steve:

got the up. I had Nate going up also.

Steve:

Good guy. Saving the day. I, uh, had Brandeis

Steve:

going up. Another successful

Steve:

episode for Brandeis. She has won

Steve:

both episodes that she's been in.

Steve:

I had Jenny going up for

Steve:

impress. Shitty stuff happened to her, but she came

Steve:

out on top in that episode. I have

Steve:

Jack going up Because Jack is

Steve:

winning right now. I also had the Columbia

Steve:

girls going up because anytime someone's

Steve:

on, uh, on the screen, we give them the

Steve:

opportunity, they're fair game to get stock. And

Steve:

I, uh, I love the opportunity to give

Steve:

stock to somebody who's on our podcast.

Steve:

So the Columbia girls, for sure.

Leif:

For me, going down, I had Chuck because,

Leif:

yeah, he was just getting kicked in the nuts all

Leif:

episode, pretty much. And

Leif:

while Blair did have her personal gains, I think she's just

Leif:

too tied into the Chuck storyline. So she also. I had her

Leif:

going down. Elizabeth, because she

Leif:

is the worst mom ever on a show of horrible

Leif:

moms. Agnes, because

Leif:

she is pure evil.

Leif:

Callie, for going along with it. And

Leif:

since he was mentioned, I will give Damian a down because

Leif:

he lost his drugs.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Danielle, who do you got going down?

Danielle Joy:

I mean, basically, all the same, definitely Elizabeth. She's a

Danielle Joy:

horrible mother. Um,

Danielle Joy:

Agnes is. Is evil, but

Danielle Joy:

she's. She's not good at it.

Leif:

She's.

Danielle Joy:

She's not good at it.

Steve:

She's criminal at it.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, she's probably the worst. Yeah. So

Danielle Joy:

Agnes going down. Um, and, uh,

Danielle Joy:

what's. What's the guy's name? Caldwell's.

Steve:

Oh, Cornwell.

Danielle Joy:

Cornwell. Cornwell's going down.

Leif:

Steve, who do you got going down?

Steve:

Um, I had Vanessa going down for obsessing over this

Steve:

rut the whole episode. I have Dan going down because he's

Steve:

with Vanessa. I have

Steve:

Chuck going down because,

Steve:

like you said, just everything kind of sucked for Chuck

Steve:

this episode. I had Elizabeth going down

Steve:

because, like, you two already covered

Steve:

horrible, um, Conwell going

Steve:

down for losing out on a

Steve:

great business opportunity. And

Steve:

I'm going to send Agnes down as well

Steve:

for just being a terrible

Steve:

criminal.

Leif:

Uh, all right, that is it for Stockwatch. Moving over

Leif:

to best outfits.

Steve:

But here's the best outfits from the last

Steve:

episode we see.

Leif:

For me, I, uh, like a good scarf game, so I gave

Leif:

it to Serena in her black dress and the big red, poofy

Leif:

scarf. Danielle.

Danielle Joy:

Uh, my favorite outfit of the episode

Danielle Joy:

was Agnes's dress at the fashion show.

Danielle Joy:

So the one that Jenny was sewing. But I also.

Danielle Joy:

I meant to mention this before, really loved. I don't

Danielle Joy:

know if you could see it, but I remember being obsessed with it when we

Danielle Joy:

were filming. Blair had a bow

Danielle Joy:

tied into her hair, so her hair

Danielle Joy:

was actually tied in a bow shape. It

Danielle Joy:

was on the left side of her head, and I was obsessed with that. I just thought

Danielle Joy:

it was the cutest detail and, um, way to

Danielle Joy:

accessorize your hair by just tying your own hair into

Danielle Joy:

A bow.

Leif:

So, Agnes, check that out.

Danielle Joy:

And Blair's bow. Uh, hair bow. Yeah. Which

Danielle Joy:

is on the left side, by the way, not the right.

Leif:

Steve, what do you got?

Steve:

I had Jenny in her

Steve:

outfit at the show tonight. I like. You know, it was

Steve:

very classic Jenny. The fishnets, the red skirt,

Steve:

and especially at the end, because as

Steve:

Robin will say, the coat game,

Steve:

the outerwear game on this show is so

Steve:

great. And Jenny had that really cool big

Steve:

puffy jacket at the end too.

Leif:

So that is it for our segments. All we have left

Leif:

to do is some plugs. But first, Danielle, thank

Leif:

you again for joining us.

Steve:

Yes, thank you. It was great having you.

Leif:

Yes. And is there anything you would like to plug at

Leif:

this time?

Danielle Joy:

Yes. So I currently, uh, have

Danielle Joy:

a podcast out as well. It's called still the

Danielle Joy:

Podcast about all the crap still going on

Danielle Joy:

in the entertainment industry for female identifying artists.

Danielle Joy:

Uh, so as you can tell, I am in the industry.

Danielle Joy:

I'm an actor, producer, um,

Danielle Joy:

background artist, stand in on Gossip Girl

Danielle Joy:

as well. Photo double. Um,

Danielle Joy:

and yeah, so my co host, Corey Hunt and

Danielle Joy:

I talk about all the things that we as female

Danielle Joy:

identifying artists face every day on set.

Danielle Joy:

How sometimes we're picked just because we're wearing a ruffly

Danielle Joy:

shirt. And, you know, you could be the

Danielle Joy:

best actor in the world, but you're wearing the wrong shirt. So.

Leif:

Yeah, yeah, definitely check that out. I've listened to a few

Leif:

episodes. Good stuff.

Danielle Joy:

Thank you.

Leif:

I listened to the episode, uh, where you talk about Blake Lively's new

Leif:

movie. It ends with us.

Danielle Joy:

Oh, it ends with us. Yeah.

Leif:

Steve, you plug in anything this week?

Steve:

I am. So, as I mentioned previously,

Leif:

Season 3 Episode 17

Leif:

Inglorious Bastards

Leif:

I love two S's.

Danielle Joy:

Love it. So good.

Steve:

God damn it. Once again, that means that Inglourious

Steve:

basterds is over 20 years old.

Steve:

It just makes me like, yeah, I was in my

Steve:

20s when that came out.

Leif:

The episode description reads, chuck and

Leif:

Blair are faced with the most difficult decision they

Leif:

have ever faced as a couple. Serena has

Leif:

a surprise birthday planned for Nate. But Jenny

Leif:

does her best to sabotage Serena's efforts.

Leif:

Dan and Vanessa's new relationship hits a

Leif:

bump in the road.

Steve:

Oh, my God. I just had a new prediction.

Steve:

Jack is going to indecent proposal her.

Steve:

Oh, my God.

Danielle Joy:

Who? Jenny?

Steve:

No, Blair.

Danielle Joy:

Blair.

Steve:

Uh, Jack's going to indecent proposal Blair

Steve:

to get the hotel back to, uh. Oh,

Steve:

of course. We'll see.

Leif:

Until next time. You know you love us.

Steve:

XOXO Gossip Girl.

Can I. Can you hear me?

Leif:

I hear you.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Okay.

Danielle Joy:

Did my camera die? Uh, no. It's

Danielle Joy:

charging. Oh, um, no. What

Danielle Joy:

happened? New recording track created

Danielle Joy:

changes in my devices. Oh, God.

Danielle Joy:

Guys, I'm so sorry. Hold on one second.

Danielle Joy:

This. I'm the worst. I'm the

Danielle Joy:

worst.

Steve:

Honestly, you're not.

Danielle Joy:

That's good to know. All right, let me try and turn this off and on again.

Steve:

Have you heard an episode with Shannon?

Danielle Joy:

Okay, let's see.

Steve:

Now, I have to make sure Shannon hears that, so I'm not

Steve:

saying that behind her.

Danielle Joy:

Cut that out. Cut that out.

Danielle Joy:

Actual recording is highest

Danielle Joy:

quality. Oh, guys, I'm so

Danielle Joy:

sorry. I've disappeared.

Leif:

Well, uh, we still got your voice, so let's just

Leif:

wrap it up.

Danielle Joy:

Okay. Sorry.

Steve:

Yeah, no, we're at the finish line.

Danielle Joy:

Yeah, I'll give you a headshot to put.
