Uh, I didn't know I was on speakerphone.
Shannon:It's like, obviously I would never call
Shannon:you a slut to your face.
Leif:Hey, Upper east siders, and all you scandal loving listeners out
Leif:there, you just tuned into the non judging breakfast pod
Leif:where the coffee is strong, the waffles are
Leif:fresh, and the gossip is hotter than ever. My name
Leif:is Leif and I'm, um, your seasoned Gossip Girl veteran.
St:And I'm Steve. The newbie, the greenhorn,
St:the. I don't know, Leif. What, uh, am I now that we're in season
St:three?
Leif:I'm not sure, but settlements are for the guilty celebrities
Leif:who run over people. The Catholic church, me, now.
St:Yeah, but I feel like you settle for me every week, Leaf.
Leif:True.
St:So here's the deal, folks. Leaf has been
St:watching Gossip Girl since it first aired, and I'm diving
St:in for the first time. And to get together, we're your dynamic
St:duo, bringing you all the droma drama,
St:romance, and questionable fashion
St:choices of this iconic 2007
St:series.
Leif:Bring your magnifying glasses, because each week we're dissecting
Leif:every juicy detail of the show one episode at a time.
Leif:We'll connect the dots, uncover those sneaky little Easter
Leif:eggs, and of course, serve up some piping hot behind the
Leif:scenes tea. And expect some iconic moments from
Leif:fandom. Because what's a deep dive without a little drama?
St:And since we are all about inclusivity here at the non
St:judging breakfast pod, there is always a seat for you
St:at the non judging breakfast table. So go ahead
St:and grab your mimosa or maybe
St:some of, uh, Chuck's special medicine or your cup of coffee and
St:let's get into this.
Leif:Well, today we're not settling just for you, Steve, because
Leif:we have a guest.
St:That we've settled for a couple times.
Leif:Before she's back for the third time.
Leif:Shannon Kelly.
Shannon:Hello. I'm here.
St:Be funny, Shannon.
Shannon:Man, I can't. For this episode.
Leif:Drink more coffee.
Shannon:Gladly.
Leif:So, uh, how much Gossip Girl have you watched since
Leif:you've last been on?
Shannon:I watched the two episodes prior to this one.
Shannon:Uh, I did not rewatch all of season three.
Shannon:I couldn't do it.
Shannon:Season three is like a dip for me in terms of
Shannon:entertainment value.
Leif:I like the college stuff at the beginning, but they
Leif:phased that out pretty quick, and now we're in the
Leif:deep part of the soap opera territory. Chuck's
Leif:mom storyline.
Shannon:Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
St:Well, and it's funny because I actually remember way
St:earlier on wishing that we had Shannon on because she's such
St:a Georgina fan. No, uh, Georgina in the beginning
St:of this season, I think is awesome.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:I thought that I hated her in season one.
Leif:The dangina ship.
St:Yeah.
Leif:In full force.
St:Yeah. It was
St:fantastic. I loved that. I
St:loved her role. End of season two and beginning of season
St:three, I thought.
Leif:Yeah. You missed Steve's whole turn to liking
Leif:Georgina.
Shannon:Yeah, I did miss that. Uh, that would have been interesting.
St:I did a 180 complete
St:180.
Leif:And it totally makes sense because in, um, season one, I think they
Leif:were still writing the character, thinking it was going to be Misha Barton.
Shannon:Yeah, fair enough. It's interesting because I've been
Shannon:rewatching House recently, and,
Shannon:like, all the characters of Gossip Girl make little
Shannon:appearances on there. And, uh, Michelle Trachtenberg
Shannon:has a whole episode where she's like.
Shannon:Like, kind of like a bubble boy type of situation where she. Her
Shannon:parents are like, you're always sick, so stay in your room. Uh, but
Shannon:then Blair has a little cameo appearance for a few
Shannon:episodes, and so does Kevin Zieger has an episode as well.
Shannon:So I just like watching how I was like, gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip
Shannon:Girl.
Leif:Yeah. I've actually. I finally found the Bedford
Leif:Diaries, which was a Penn Badgley
Leif:show before the mountain and before Gossip Girl.
Shannon:Oh, I've not seen that.
Leif:I'm surprised it didn't get a second season. It also has, uh,
Leif:Milo Vetimiglia in it.
St:M. Um.
Leif:Did you watch One Tree Hill?
Shannon:Yeah, of course.
Leif:The actual Derek, not the fake Derek.
Leif:The black guy is in it. He's a main character in this.
Leif:Derek Payton's, uh, brother.
Shannon:Oh, uh, yeah, I forgot about that
Shannon:storyline.
Leif:Not psycho Derek, the actual Derek.
Shannon:Okay. Yeah, yeah,
Shannon:yeah.
Leif:I've watched, like, two episodes so far. It's not bad.
Shannon:You guys do a One Tree Hill podcast after this?
Leif:Possibly.
Leif:That's a long one.
Shannon:Can I be on every episode?
St:Nine.
Leif:Nine seasons, yeah. Ah.
St:And I. Yeah. That is one I have not seen, though.
St:Is that the religious one?
Leif:No, uh, it's basketball one.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Oh, okay.
Shannon:The, like, half brothers from separate sides of the
Shannon:track.
Leif:So one more thing before we get started. I was reading Reddit
Leif:this week, and, uh, there's a thread about people
Leif:complaining about Chuck Bass's facial expressions.
Leif:And there's one particular comment that stood out, and I got
Leif:their permission to use it. It was from user
Leif:dryice34.
Leif:Same crying emoji. My boyfriend was
Leif:like, why is this MF always whispering and
Leif:shaping his mouth like a butthole? Lmao.
Leif:Ah, Cry emoji. Cry
Leif:emoji. Cry emoji. I haven't unseen it since.
St:Oh, no, I will never unsee
St:that.
Shannon:Yeah, it is like the pursed parted
Shannon:lips.
St:The whole lips.
Shannon:Oh, no.
St:Yeah, I thought that was awesome. Chug bass.
Leif:Passes an ass.
Shannon:Good.
Leif:And, uh, we are here to talk about season three,
Leif:episode 15, the 16
Leif:year old virgin original air
Leif:dates March 22, 2010 and
Leif:obviously based on the movie, the 40 year old
Leif:version.
St:Yeah. Uh, would have just come out. I think that came out in
St:07.0505.
Leif:Yes.
St:Right. Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah.
Leif:That was kind of Judd Apatow's first big break. Yeah, he already done
Leif:Freaks and Geeks, but that was obviously not that bad because it got canceled.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:Biggest trend to me.
St:Oh, I do a Freaks. And I love Freaks and Geeks. Yeah.
Leif:And then he also did Undeclared right after that, which is also good.
St:Uh, yeah, Undeclared. I really liked a lot of
St:it. I hated when they did like, fraternity stuff because.
St:But I always get cringy whenever they do fraternity eternity
St:stuff because it's so over the top.
Leif:But this episode was written once again by
Leif:Layla Gerstein. M. Previously wrote
Leif:Southern Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Rufus
Leif:Getting Married, and the Last Days of the Disco Stick just a few episodes
Leif:ago. Yeah.
St:Yeah.
St:I mean, the Last Days of the Disco Stick has so
St:far my favorite opening scene
St:of Gossip Girl. Because it's right after the threesome. Uh,
St:and so Dan's like, walking down the street, high fiving
St:strangers. Yeah. The spin move.
St:High five. Best.
St:Best cold. No, not cold open, but best opening
St:scene.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:Episode directed by Wendy
Leif:Stanzler is her first and only episode of the
Leif:show. But 79 different shows she's
Leif:directed on.
St:Wow.
Shannon:Geez.
Leif:Including Glee, Grey's Anatomy, Sex and the City,
Leif:Dollhouse, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
St:Wow. So she knows her way around tv.
Leif:Yes.
St:And clearly gets hired.
Leif:Mhm.
St:Which I have no complaints on the directing.
Leif:I don't think in this one, directing was
Leif:fine.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Steve, why don't you give us that vulture recap?
St:All right. The expected loss of a
St:16 year old Jenny Humphrey's virginity was the
St:centerpiece of last night's episode of Gossip Girl.
St:As with most small inbred cultures, the
St:deflowering of this Upper east sider
St:cumbrooklinite became something
St:of a community affair.
St:Jenny's father, her stepmother, her
St:brother, and Nate all weighed in with their thoughts about
St:the emotional and physical consequences such an
St:act might have. Stepsister Serena
St:directed the younger girl toward a, uh, Patrick Swayze
St:movie for sex tips. And we're sure that
St:where and uh, we're sure that were Dorota
St:and Vanya around, they would have ordered advice
St:on pregnancy protection. None of
St:this, in the end, was needed. Damian
St:turned out to be a callous and unworthy suitor,
St:and Jenny was left not broken
St:hymened, but brokenhearted.
Shannon:Not broken hymen.
St:But this sad little story seemed
St:indeed like kid stuff compared to the
St:metaphorical screwing that was going on elsewhere.
St:Clearly, Lily is still doing something
St:untoward behind Rufus back. And
St:Chuck's mother and Jack Bass
St:are apparently planning to double team Chuck
St:in a betrayal of, um, epic proportions.
St:And so it was that we realized it's not really
St:the people you let into your vagina that can hurt
St:you. It's the people you let into your heart.
Leif:Uh. Oh, vulture.
St:Oh, vulture.
Shannon:Yeah, that's good. That's a good recap because, uh, I
Shannon:feel like, true, the whole
Shannon:idea of her losing her virginity was so.
Shannon:It pales in comparison to the other stuff going on
Shannon:in this episode. But we'll get into that.
Leif:But it was by far the best story, I thought.
Leif:Well, yeah, the best plot thread.
Shannon:Mhm.
Leif:I mean, I don't really like how it turned out, but
Leif:yeah, as far as entertaining tv. Okay,
Leif:so we move into act one.
Leif:We get a Gossip Girl monologue
Leif:from the day he brings his new birth girl home. A
Leif:father lives in fear that someday she'll get
Leif:hurt, that someday she'll hate him, and
Leif:worst of all, that someday she'll grow up.
Shannon:That's such an eye roll of a quote. Like I
Shannon:hate this trope of like daddy does
Shannon:what is girl to fuck? Like, I
Shannon:just hate it so bad in this episode.
St:And I'll say like as, as a girl dad, right? I have
St:an 18 year old daughter and when, when she was
St:14 and lived with us, I had
St:the conversation with her of you'll know
St:when you are ready. Yeah, you
St:be safe. Be respectful. Be safe
St:with, with your partner. Be safe and
St:respectful to yourself and respectful to your. Toward your
St:partner. Whoever it may, will
St:never talk about this again.
St:You know, it was this, you know, I, it was, uh,
St:we're. I, I'm going to have
St:this conversation because I'm not
St:ignorant to the fact that my daughter
St:is growing up and is not
St:the little girl who picked
St:that flower years ago and is in that picture that
St:she is now at this point even
St:an 18 year old. So of course she's making her
St:own decisions. And
St:I am appalled by the dads that police
St:their daughter's vaginas.
Shannon:It's really creepy.
St:It's so creepy.
Shannon:Yeah. The, uh, aggressive safeguarding of
Shannon:Jenny's virginity. And this episode
Shannon:is so unnerving. Um. Yes.
St:Yeah.
Leif:It's just such a throwback to the daughter
Leif:is a property.
Shannon:Yeah, yeah, exactly.
St:Exactly. And you can't
St:sell damaged goods. Like,
St:if we're really looking at the origins of these
St:feelings that dads have towards their daughters, that's
St:where. Why we were taught these things.
Leif:So we open with Jenny is leaving the law for school, and
Leif:things are extremely tense between her and Rufus
Leif:as she closes the front door behind her. She
Leif:shakes out her hair and undoes the buttons on the top of her
Leif:blouse and calls the town car to take her to the Smith
Leif:Hotel.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:Nice little, like, slow motion. Hair comes
Shannon:down. I was like, this is very dramatic for, like, she
Shannon:just put her hair down.
St:Yeah. And. And again, when
St:we're talking about Rufus being such a dumb ass that
St:Jenny is being punished because she ran
St:out that one night and she snuck out, but she came home.
St:Right. So she wasn't that
St:super out of line. I get being in a little bit of trouble,
St:but. But he's being a huge asshole about.
Shannon:Yeah, he's right off the bat. Yeah, he. He
Shannon:constantly is with her.
St:Yeah, you're going to have. You're going to have lunch with
St:Headmistress Queller every day. Was that this scene or not? Later.
Leif:It's later.
St:Okay, think.
Shannon:In this scene, he is kind of like, it's school, home. School, home,
Shannon:school, home.
St:Jenny says it, but, like, I get it, dad. It's
St:school, home, school, home. Um, but exactly.
Leif:Blair is on the phone with Elizabeth, making plans
Leif:to spend some time with her and Chuck. As Chuck enters the
Leif:suite, Blair hangs up the phone and Chuck announces that he
Leif:is being sued by several Empire staff members for
Leif:sexual harassment. Chuck insists that he
Leif:doesn't do that kind of thing anymore.
Leif:Blair wants to fight the woman in court, but
Leif:Chuck plans to settle out of court.
Shannon:Yeah, the idea of, like, Ed Westwick playing a
Shannon:character with false accusations.
St:Now.
Leif:We'Re thinking, no, it didn't happen until after the show is.
St:Okay, that's what I thought. That's what I thought.
Leif:Yeah.
Shannon:Gave him the idea.
Leif:Yeah.
St:Hey, can we write this in real quick just so that I can point
St:to it when I'm getting sued, which.
Leif:You know, there's a chance the writers did know about it because they,
Leif:like. Like we did in the last episode. They're definitely
Leif:poking fun at, uh, you know, that. Weinstein.
Leif:Harvey Weinstein.
St:For sure.
Shannon:For sure.
Leif:Did you catch that on the last episode?
Shannon:I didn't realize because, like, I'm so
Shannon:clueless in terms of, like, when these episodes airing and,
Shannon:like, what was going on at that time, if that makes sense.
Leif:It was completely unknown. Well, I mean, it wasn't completely unknown. It
Leif:was known to people, like, within that
Leif:community. Yeah. They're like, you know, listen to blind items and stuff like that.
Leif:But it was not. Because pre. Me too. And.
Leif:But yeah. So the character. One of the NYU
Leif:characters is Willow Weinstein. And it was implied that
Leif:her, uh. She's related to someone powerful in
Leif:Hollywood and she's very inappropriate.
St:Yeah.
Leif:And yes, she's shown her
Leif:sexually without giving.
Leif:Here, look at my sex tape. Without any
Leif:foreknowledge.
St:And also wrote, like, a raunchy sex
St:play.
Leif:Yeah, but that.
St:I mean, that's very college humor, though.
Leif:Yeah. It was a.
St:What?
Leif:Not burlesque, but cabernet.
St:Cabaret.
Leif:Yeah, cabaret. Lily
Leif:stops by the loft under the premise of being worried
Leif:about Jenny, but really she wants to talk about
Leif:Holland. However, before she can,
Leif:Rufus gets a call from Queller letting him know that Jenny has
Leif:been skipping classes all week.
Shannon:I hate his line in the scene. It was like the. The
Shannon:Hulk was furious. And Jed. There's no word
Shannon:for what Jenny is like, what does that mean? I
Shannon:don't like.
St:And I love how he's like, no, she's really mad. And it's
St:like, why Rufus?
Shannon:Yeah, right.
St:Why is she really.
Shannon:It's like. And he's acting like she's, like, so
Shannon:overreacting. And it's like, she's been pretty, like,
Shannon:even tempered.
St:Yeah.
Leif:I think she accepts her.
Shannon:She's annoyed more than furious
Shannon:for.
St:For the knowledge that Rufus
St:has. This kid really
St:isn't. Hasn't done anything to seem
St:like a bad kid. Like, he brought these drugs over
St:because he panicked and didn't know what to do. That's the story
St:he gave.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:That Rufus seemed to accept the story.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:So it's. So, yes, we
St:learned Damien is a creep. And yes.
St:Automatic feeder.
St:Sorry.
Leif:Cat needs to be fed.
St:Cat needs to be fed. Sorry about that.
Shannon:Right. Okay. M. The Damian seat. Like, he seemed to buy
Shannon:Damian's story.
St:Uh, yeah. And Damian really, on the
St:surface right now, isn't
St:a bad guy.
Shannon:Yeah. And especially the way, like, he interacted with the parents.
Shannon:Like, that is, like, he was very respectful in the way
Shannon:he spoke in the last episode. And, like, a
Shannon:very direct.
St:And he fall for Jenny and
St:stepped up with that and all
St:of those things. So I just feel like
St:Rufus being like, wow, yeah, Jenny sure is
St:mad. But yeah, Rufus. Cause you
St:overreacted again
St:to something that Jenny did. Mhm. And
St:yeah, it's. It also kind of really
St:pisses me off that he was kind of right
St:about him too.
Shannon:Yeah, you know, me too.
St:I really hate when this show
St:rewards people for dumb,
St:bad, stupid behavior.
Leif:We'll get to it at the end there. But I thought that ending was
Leif:bad characterization and bad writing.
Shannon:Yeah. Um, I agree. I agree 100%. I
Shannon:like, I do have that, like, note for later, and I feel like.
St:I felt like his contract was up.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:And yeah, also, this is where we learned that the
St:party of the week is in honors for
St:Bart Bass.
Shannon:Oh, yeah.
Leif:The New York Historical Society.
St:Yes.
Leif:Nate and Serena are just wrapping up sexy time.
Leif:Serena gets a text from Rufus, who is worried about
Leif:Jenny is with Damien. Serena then
Leif:educates Nate on the appeal of bad boys and both want to
Leif:protect Jenny from Damien.
Shannon:Every time I see Serena and Nate together, I think about.
Shannon:You're like the one time leaf. I remember you
Shannon:saying, uh, just two golden retrievers.
Shannon:Like, oh, those two golden retrievers going at it.
St:And it really is. What I've been saying for the past
St:few episodes is I love them as a
St:couple. They just need to be handcuffed together
St:at all times so neither of them
St:can see another pretty person
St:and run off with them.
Shannon:Uh, but Serena makes the point in this scene that
Shannon:Rufus is driving Jenny into
Shannon:Damian's arms, which, like. Yes, exactly.
Shannon:That is correct.
St:Oh, yeah, 100%.
Leif:Dan and Vanessa are also getting hot and heavy in
Leif:Vanessa's dorm room. They too are interrupted by a
Leif:call from Rufus.
St:Oh, it's the keep it casual episode.
Shannon:Yeah. My only note for this scene was Dan and Vanessa.
Shannon:Ew.
Leif:Yeah. So I. I was surprisingly
Leif:like them in the last episode. I thought the chemistry was really good. And
Leif:I like, I liked a bit about Vanessa being scared,
Leif:but yeah, it was gone this episode.
Leif:I'm already bored.
Shannon:I like this. The, like, the little
Shannon:relationship that they created in the last episode
Shannon:with. With the girl like Michelle or what was her name?
Shannon:Melissa. And then like. Yeah. And the. And
Shannon:Paul. It's like, oh, that's funny if like those two get
Shannon:together. But
Shannon:yeah. I just don't care for Dan and Vanessa as a
Shannon:couple. I don't. It doesn't interest me.
Shannon:It doesn't like. I don't believe it.
Leif:Well, my biggest problem is that it splits the cast up.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:It, you know, there. Dan and Vanessa. No. Have
Leif:no reason to be.
Shannon:Yeah, it truly is. They're just like team Brooklyn in
Shannon:Brooklyn and stay there. Yeah.
Leif:But I did I did enjoy the chemistry in the last episode
Leif:when they were behind the little photo thing.
Shannon:Yeah, fair.
Leif:It got pretty hot there.
St:But my, my notes on Dan and Vanessa for the
St:past several episodes have mostly been.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Things are also heating up between Jenny and Damian in
Leif:a hotel room. However, Jenny pulls away before things
Leif:get NC17. Damian points out the
Leif:pattern of Jenny leaving right when things are moving towards sex.
Leif:Jenny insists she's not a virgin but likes to take her time.
Leif:Damien convinces her to make a sex date for
Leif:tonight.
Shannon:Sex date. Every time I see Kevin Zieger's like the
Shannon:very first thought I have is just air bud. I just
Shannon:always think like, air bud.
Leif:Air Bud.
Shannon:Airbud.
Leif:I remember he was also in a small delta. He was in an upset.
Leif:Um, he was a freak of the week.
St:He does like oh, early. Right. Wasn't that
St:like three or four? Maybe M. Three or four. Yeah, I think I remember that.
Shannon:I did. He was like in Fear the Walking Dead and also
Shannon:dawn of uh, the Dead Red. So I feel like he's done some
Shannon:like zombie horror stuff too. But it's just, I
Shannon:don't know, every time I see him I just think like, that's the boy
Shannon:did air Bud. He always plays
Shannon:like a bad boy too.
St:And, and in this scene I didn't
St:think that especially the first part of what he says. I
St:don't think he's out of line.
Shannon:No. He sits super reasonable on that scene and like
Shannon:he's speaking with.
St:When I'm dating someone, I, I expect this to be
St:part of the equation.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:And so please talk to me about it and what's
St:going on.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Now at the end when he's like,
St:so tonight, right?
Shannon:No rush. No, no rush.
St:No rush. But tonight. But we're going to do it tonight.
St:No rush.
Shannon:My only note for like Jenny in this episode or like
Shannon:in the scene is like if you're not ready
Shannon:to tell somebody that you're a virgin, you're
Shannon:probably not ready to lose your virginity to that person.
Leif:Definitely at risk.
St:Yes. Although how many 16 year old
St:girls really know that?
Shannon:Yeah.
St:You know like you're at uh. You are 100%
St:correct. And yeah.
Leif:Uh, Gossip Girl takes us to the first act break.
Leif:There's always a moment a father can't let himself
Leif:fear. The day his little J decides to
Leif:lose her big B.
St:It's terrible.
Leif:So silly. And uh, we
Leif:move into Act 2. Chuck and Blair and
Leif:Elizabeth are walking down the street. Elizabeth
Leif:accepts Chuck's invitation to the Historical Society
Leif:gala. The trio are interrupted by a News
Leif:crew that runs up asking Chuck to make a statement about
Leif:the sexual harassment accusations.
Leif:Chuck is embarrassed for his mother to see this and
Leif:ushers her and Blair inside. Before Chuck can
Leif:also get away, he gets a call from Jack giving
Leif:him a good idea who is behind the accusations.
Shannon:I like Jack in this episode.
St:Yeah, I think he looks terrible. Uh, his hair
St:is ridiculous.
Shannon:He's just entertaining. And I feel like there was not a lot
Shannon:entertaining in this episode, but he was.
St:Jack isn't entertaining.
Leif:I like a good villain. Let's just hope they don't try to redeem him
Leif:like they did with Chuck and Chuck. Harder.
St:Yeah. Um,
St:I also. I was a
St:little surprised that Evelyn is still
St:here.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Because remember, uh, my prediction at the end
St:of last week is we're never going to see her again. Like, oh, plotline
St:resolved. She's gone. Sort of like Scott.
St:I thought she was going to be another Scott, where it's like,
St:we're going to be best friends and family. From M.
St:Now on. Ghosted.
Leif:Nope, she's still here, unfortunately.
St:Yeah, yeah, let's, uh. God
St:damn it.
Shannon:Chuck has a mom, and her name is Lily.
St:Thank you.
Leif:Back at the loft, Rufus and Lily are binding over
Leif:parenting. Rufus turns down Lily's invitation to the
Leif:gala and instead calls Serena again. Lily leaves
Leif:the scarf from last week on the table for Rufus to find.
Shannon:Rufus, grow the floor up. Like, I don't want to celebrate
Shannon:your dead husband right now. It's like, he's
Shannon:dead. Like, off.
St:Yeah, dude.
Leif:I mean, I kind of get that because she had just cheated with her other
Leif:ex husband.
Steve:Yeah.
Shannon:But, like, in my. And she has the
Shannon:scarf, so.
St:Yeah, well, and. And Rufus just can't
St:get out of his own way, though.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Is his big problem is that, like, he.
St:All of Rufus's problems are
St:problems Rufus creates.
Leif:Yeah.
Shannon:Yeah, I agree with that.
Leif:But you to Rufus on his parenting of Jenny and
Leif:this because. Oh, I. I. When am I gonna see my little
Leif:girl again?
St:Yeah.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:They grow up. And. And if you
St:can't handle that, you're not
St:a good parent. The goal of parenting
St:isn't to. There's this idea
St:that parenting is all about protecting
St:your kids at all times, but no, it's teaching them how to be
St:a person. Yeah, it's teaching them. And it
St:involves protecting them sometimes, but
St:really involves picking them up
St:when they up.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:And if you never let your kids up, then they
St:never learn how to deal with up.
Shannon:Yeah, exactly. I feel like Rufus, too. It's just the
Shannon:way that he speaks. Like, he's just like, he's such a
Shannon:child. Like, he just. He's so passive aggressive.
Shannon:And, like, it's, uh. Like, I get that you're frustrated, and I get that you're
Shannon:unhappy about xyz, but, like, he's just makes little,
Shannon:like, digs when he's in a bad mood. And
Shannon:it's so annoying to watch. You're like. You're a grown
Shannon:man, supposedly.
St:Act like.
Leif:Speaking of Serena, she and Jenny are having a little girl time
Leif:and eating froyo. Serena emphasizes the
Leif:importance of a younger woman's first time and wishes she
Leif:had waited for someone better. Waited to Shakura
Leif:boyfriend. S. It's just about then that
Leif:Nate also walks in and Serena hands off mentor duties to
Leif:him.
Shannon:This scene was such, like, a
Shannon:quick decline for me. Like, it started out I
Shannon:was like, oh, thank God. Like, Jenny has someone
Shannon:she can talk to and, like, and I'm glad that it's like, a
Shannon:girl who's, you know, um, like, just about her age,
Shannon:and it's like, they can have this, like, nice, honest
Shannon:conversation. And then Serena
Shannon:just dips into, like, the thing about your virginity
Shannon:is once she loves you can never get it back. And m.
Shannon:It just, like, it just skydives from there. It just nose
Shannon:dives into bad from there. And I'm like.
Leif:And then.
Shannon:Yeah. What is with Serena's comment? Like,
Shannon:I'm like, didn't she lose it to Nathan, like, who she's
Shannon:with?
St:Well, no, we, uh, we don't know that she lost it to
St:him. We. He lost it to her.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:But there it was implied that she had lost it.
Shannon:Oh. Prior. Uh, okay.
Leif:But she hasn't. She. It was Nate. It was
Leif:spoilers. So really, if that
Leif:hasn't been real, I'm spoiling it now.
St:Oh, okay.
Leif:It was Nate.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:That was so confused. I was watching it, and I was like, I'm pretty
Shannon:sure she lost it to Nate, so I don't get, like, why
Shannon:she's, like, saying that.
Leif:Because she also talks like, I ran away afterwards because, you know,
Leif:it wasn't.
Shannon:Yeah. I feel like it's so sad that Jenny doesn't have a single
Shannon:character in this episode telling her, like,
Shannon:you know what? This isn't the biggest deal ever. Like,
Shannon:if you want to make it special, like, you want to wait for, uh,
Shannon:someone, like, a different time, a different, different person that, like, that's
Shannon:entirely your call. But, like, when you lose your virginity, that's
Shannon:one time. Like, you're gonna have so many more.
St:Times that are probably going to be more special.
Leif:Yeah.
Shannon:Like, don't put this much pressure on lose like,
Shannon:oh, you can never get it back. Like, who
Shannon:cares? Stop making this the biggest
Shannon:deal ever.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Uh, yeah. This would have been a great time to
Leif:use Vanessa.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Yes. Yeah. Vanessa.
Leif:We established they are good friends and.
St:Could have really been a good big sister.
Shannon:Yeah. Yeah.
St:Whoops.
Shannon:But she's too busy fucking Dan. Who, like
Shannon:Rufus doesn't care about that at all.
St:Yeah, right. Dan can fuck. He's a boy.
Shannon:Yeah, Dan can fuck.
Leif:I love the Chetty does call out that double standard later.
St:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:Chuck is going over some paperwork at the bar when he's approached
Leif:by Uncle Jack. Jack claims he had nothing to do with the
Leif:lawsuits and that uh, he is here to protect Chuck.
Leif:Jack also says he saw Evelyn's body in the
Leif:casket and whoever, uh, Elizabeth is, she can't be
Leif:his mother.
Shannon:Love it.
St:Yeah, I love that. I loved it.
St:Um, one thing that we didn't address in the
St:previous scene was Serena handing
St:Jenny over to Nate to commemorate the special
St:day. Go out to lunch with my
St:boyfriend who you dated.
Shannon:Yeah, yeah. He was like, oh, yeah, I'll take you for
Shannon:whatever want. Like, what are you in the mood for? It's like. This is
Shannon:weird.
St:It's so weird.
Shannon:Hey, the weirdest handoff.
St:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Leif:They. They totally changed their. The dynamic between Nate
Leif:and Jenny in this season. Like now he's like full on big
Leif:brother mode.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:But yeah, in this, in this next scene, I do, uh,
Shannon:I like that. Blair establishes Jack's
Shannon:monster class as oo.
Leif:Yeah. As Jack is leaving, he bumps into Blair
Leif:who also suspects he is behind the lawsuit. Jack
Leif:once again denies it and makes a creepy
Leif:inference to him having had sex with Blair.
Shannon:Yeah. But honestly, it's a good, like he has some
Shannon:great lines.
Leif:Yeah, it's great.
St:Yeah. Jack, I, uh. Jack
St:owned this episode. Every, everything
St:he did, just strategy and lot. His
St:lines were great.
Shannon:The pleasure is yours.
St:Yeah. So gross. Does
St:Chuck know that they bang?
Leif:Yes. That came out season finale of
Leif:season two.
St:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:When a gospel girl is just dropping everything.
Shannon:Yeah, I like the like the, the question of
Shannon:like. Yeah, this scene leaves a lot of open
Shannon:ended questions that makes this episode more interesting
Shannon:for me because this idea of like, okay, like, is
Shannon:this Chuck's m. Mother? Like did his mom die? And then
Shannon:also like, did Jack start the rumors? If not like, who
Shannon:else is out to get Chuck? And yeah, it's just like an
Shannon:interesting, like, oh, I want to find
Shannon:answers now.
St:Um, I feel like Jack
St:is almost the
St:lawful evil type to
St:not come in lying about setting
St:him up. When Jack said, I didn't do
St:this.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:I believed him. And my mind instantly
St:went to Evelyn.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Instantly. It was like, Jack
St:is really defensive about this.
St:And Jack is really has that attitude of
St:like, I had nothing to do with this.
Shannon:Yeah. And even him saying, like, whoever did is smarter than me.
St:Yeah. Yeah. Like I, I
St:believed him instantly because I, I feel like
St:that I, I feel like
St:he would do something like this, but I feel like he'd
St:brag about it if he did it.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:I feel like he would have owned it to Chuck
St:or, or at least not
St:answered directly.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:And so when that happened, it's like, well, who else would be out to get Chuck?
St:Evelyn. Mhm.
Leif:Well, I mean, they are all in together, but I still think this is all
Leif:Jack's plan. He was just working Chuck the
Leif:whole episode.
St:I, I, I, Oh, I don't, I agree on that.
St:But I don't believe Jack called
St:the women. Um, that Jack said. I think Jack
St:pulled the strings to have
St:Evelyn do the things, if
St:that makes sense.
Leif:I think it's just planned. She doesn't seem very
Leif:capable to me.
St:Well, right. I, I get that.
St:I'm. Yeah, I think he's behind it. I
St:think he's the mastermind, but I don't think he pulled the trigger.
St:Yeah, they both suck.
Leif:Serena is setting up a romantic lunch at the
Leif:penthouse while on the phone with Nate. She explains her
Leif:plan to Nate as he stepped away from his lunch with Jenny.
Leif:Serena's plan is to entrap Damien and have Nate and
Leif:Jenny catch him in the act. Nate thinks it would be best just to
Leif:call Rufus, but Serena just bulldozes over him.
Shannon:Oh, Serena. It's such a stupid,
Shannon:like, plan. It's, it's like if anything, you're
Shannon:just, if this works, you're just hurting Jenny. You're
Shannon:creating a weird, like, now dynamic
Shannon:between you and Jenny as well. And also like, oh, uh,
Shannon:just give me exactly 45 minutes.
St:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:She's that confident in her.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Which normally she would be.
St:Right?
Shannon:Like, give me exactly 45 minutes and then you walk in
Shannon:at that exact.
St:Moment, which implies she's done this before.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Like she knows she's got her time down. Yeah.
Shannon:Yeah. Such an annoying little scheme.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:So unnecessary.
St:Dumbest idea.
Leif:Dan is back in the loft getting the, the Jenny
Leif:scoop from Rufus. Rufus knows he's seeing someone
Leif:new. Just before Dan can let the cat out of the bag,
Leif:Vanessa shows up. Because of course, Rufus called Vanessa
Leif:and it's time to circle the wagons.
Shannon:She's like family.
St:Vanessa is not my sister.
Shannon:She loves its incest.
St:She's a friend. She's a classmate. Yeah, it really does
St:love its inc.
Shannon:Like, Dan, you will never not be your sister.
St:Yeah, where's the Danny
St:relationship? The. The. The Dan,
St:Jenny? Because even Nate
St:and Jenny were, like, at the time,
St:living together.
Leif:Rufus takes a call and walks into the other room.
Leif:Vanessa goes in for the kiss, but Dan pulls back and goes
Leif:into a ridiculous ramble about friends only zones and
Leif:friends with benefit zones. Even he realizes it's a
Leif:bit confusing, so he's going to make her a map.
Leif:Vanessa is unsurprisingly annoyed.
St:The friend. The map cracked me up.
St:Um, when she's like. When she's like. When we're sitting
St:on the subway at opposite ends of the car and he's like, still gonna
St:make a map. That really
St:cracked me up. As much as I hate the, uh,
St:Friends with Benefits storyline, you know, we've
St:seen it in so many Friends did it.
St:I'm sure Simpsons did it.
St:I just. I hated this storyline
St:because I'm so. I. I knew. And it's
St:like, we knew it had to happen, too, because they set it up last
St:episode that it had to be this
St:stupid.
Leif:Serena is having a candlelit lunch with Damien, who
Leif:apologizes for his behavior at the state dinner.
Leif:Serena lies and says, but, um,
Leif:Nate and I are over. I have no feelings for
Leif:him anymore. Serena then leans about
Leif:70 of the way in for the kiss, but Damien backs off and
Leif:states that he really likes Jenny.
Shannon:I love Damien in the scene, though. Absolutely loved it.
St:Serena's just such a dumb narcissist.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Like, oh, this guy tried to. This guy tried to make a
St:move on me once. I'll definitely steal him away from
St:my little sister.
Shannon:There are two times, like, what was delivered in this episode,
Shannon:and I really liked it. And this was the first time. It was just really
Shannon:funny for him to be like, oh, I actually really like Jenny
Shannon:and. What?
Leif:Nate is, uh, still out with Jenny, who is starting to become
Leif:bored. Nate ignores a call from Serena. As he
Leif:stalls long enough for Rufus to show up,
Leif:Jenny gives Nate a betrayed look.
Shannon:I hate the chastity belt line.
Leif:Yeah, yeah. Gossip
Leif:Girls line is,
Leif:oh, uh, looks like this virgin queen's next
Leif:accessory may be a chastity belt.
St:In. In the
St:morality of Gossip Girl. I do
St:think that I like that Nate does the. Everyone's looking
St:for Jenny. I'm gonna call her dad.
Shannon:Yeah. Definitely didn't go with his plan.
Leif:Yeah, it's definitely much better to plan Serena's.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Serena's plan is horrible. And Nate did. I
St:really feel Nate did the right thing. This girl's
St:parents are looking.
Leif:Skipping school.
St:Or skipping school.
Shannon:And she got two desserts, so.
St:Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
St:She's well fed and can go home with her
St:dad now.
Leif:It was Manhattan, so that coffee was probably, like, 11 bucks.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:No free refills.
Leif:We move into act three. Back in Brooklyn.
Leif:Rufus is laying down Jenny's new marching orders.
Leif:Jenny takes a shot at Rufus in marriage and storms off.
Leif:Rufus finally notices the scarf.
St:Rufus is being a bad dad. Uh, again.
St:Again.
Leif:Yeah. So this is where we get the. Her new rules are
Leif:Ruis will escort her to and from school.
Leif:Weller will have her escorted between classes
Leif:and lunch in Queller's office.
Leif:Get a job, Rufus. You have way too much time on your hands.
St:Yeah, yeah, yeah. What are you doing?
Leif:Or maybe at least get some couples counseling with your wife.
Shannon:Yeah, uh, yeah.
Shannon:Seriously, focus on your relationship.
Leif:And not just, yes,
Leif:we talked about this last time. But just
Leif:as they're about to, like, really get together,
Leif:Rufus sold his gallery and no longer had a job,
Leif:so now he is just a trophy husband.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Which was pointed out on a previous episode with
St:Holland. When he met Holland.
Leif:I don't see you coming and going much. You're just there.
Leif:Elizabeth brings home a new purple tie to wear to the
Leif:gala. Elizabeth finds out about Jack potentially
Leif:showing up at the party and decides she can't go.
Leif:Chuck asks her to stay for a drink instead.
Leif:Uh, yeah. This set up for the DNA test later.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:But also her being like, oh, Jack's gonna
St:be there. I don't think I'm gonna go.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Is.
Leif:Even before that, she was acting weird. Like, the whole line about. Like,
Leif:about Bart liking purple. She's like, oh, maybe he's just
Leif:fucking with people.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Yeah.
Shannon:I didn't get that.
Leif:I was really weird.
Shannon:Oh, like, I think he just told you that I was
Shannon:m. Like, I don't get it. You just said
Shannon:it was his favorite color.
St:Yeah, and I wear it because he loathes it. And it's like, oh, maybe
St:he just told you he hates it to mess with you. So that.
Leif:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
St:And. And, uh, later on, Chuck
St:does say, like, she doesn't know stuff about my dad.
St:Yeah, He. When he's. When he wants to get that. When he.
St:We. When we see the DNA
St:bag, he's like,
St:yeah, I. She doesn't know stuff about
St:him.
Leif:I. I wonder if in the script or the director was
Leif:telling the actress act awkward
Leif:like, act like you're hiding something.
Shannon:I don't know. I kind of think the actress just awkward.
St:Yeah. I mean, she's such a soap opera actor
St:that I don't feel like I read much from her
St:other than just high drama.
Shannon:Yeah. Also just the. Like, the storyline, it's
Shannon:kind of terrible. Yeah, it's terrible. Like, there is no reason
Shannon:to bring a question as to, like,
Shannon:Chuck's. Like, Chuck's mom should just be dead.
Shannon:It was a better, like, character arc
Shannon:for him than this.
Leif:Blair and Serena are getting ready and discussing Chuck when
Leif:Blair gets a call from Nate. Blair puts Nate
Leif:on speakerphone, so she continue applying her makeup. Nate
Leif:then proceeds to slut shame Serena, who snatches
Leif:the phone up and gives Nate a piece of her mind.
Shannon:This is the scene where I realized even the
Shannon:characters are bored with this episode.
Shannon:When she picks the phone up and acts all indignant.
Leif:It seems perfectly reasonable to me.
Shannon:He's just like, uh, I didn't know I was on
Shannon:speakerphone. Is like, obviously, I would
Shannon:never call you a slut to your face.
Shannon:Well, my.
St:My other problem with this, though.
St:Serena is mad at Nate for
St:saying exactly what Serena said
St:to Jenny earlier in the
St:episode. Like, it's very special. You don't want
St:to do what I did. You don't want it to be
St:like I had.
Leif:Well, he was implying that she didn't understand that.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Uh, but. And then also, I liked in the beginning where he's talking
Leif:to Blair, so it seemed like a peripheral. Reasonably to me.
Leif:That's what Blair says.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Because it's a Blair water nut job plan.
St:Yeah. Speaking of things we've both shared,
St:I've really enjoyed
St:Nate and Blair during the
St:Nate Serena relationship. M. Their
St:banter. The. You know the one where it
St:was. The, uh, it's from. It's from
St:a book. You haven't read it? I forget what book it was. It's from Anna
St:Karenina. You haven't read it?
Leif:Rufus finds Jenny following Serena's advice,
Leif:watching Dirty Dancing in her room. Jenny admits
Leif:it's corny, but, uh, good. Rufus
Leif:informs Jenny that he is bringing her to the gala tonight, but
Leif:he'll be watching her like a Lincoln hawk.
St:I see what you did there. Because every time
St:she walks away or runs away, he takes. She
St:takes a piece of him with her.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:Indeed. Shame on you. Chuck
Leif:Bass reads the sign held by the protesters scream for
Leif:a boycott outside the Empire. Blair
Leif:finds Chuck gathering Elizabeth's DNA sample from
Leif:her cocktail glass. However, while Chuck is
Leif:explaining his doubts to Blair, Elizabeth walks in and
Leif:overhears them, Elizabeth storms off.
Leif:Chuck still plans to drop the sample off of the guy at
Leif:the nypd, but Blair seems to think
Leif:Chuck should believe Elizabeth over Jack.
Shannon:Uh, Chuck absolutely should get a genetic test.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:You were told your whole life that your mother died during childbirth.
Shannon:You. You. This woman just came into the picture.
Shannon:You know nothing about her. You should
Shannon:absolutely get a genetic test.
Leif:Yeah. 100%. Yeah. I don't get Blair
Leif:advising against the earth.
Shannon:Yeah. Stupid.
St:Yeah. And. And even
St:Elizabeth to be upset about it.
St:Yeah, that's. That is sus.
Shannon:Yeah, super sus.
St:If you're gonna be. Oh, you know, don't
St:test my DNA. Oh, why are you.
Shannon:Are you gonna show up out of the flu? You should be, like,
Shannon:expecting that he's gonna want one.
Shannon:Ready? Yeah. Should come with paperwork,
Shannon:like.
St:Like, here's a glass that I just
St:licked. And please take my DNA
St:sample so that you can know that it's
St:nothing out of line here. Yeah, absolutely.
St:Reasonable.
Leif:And gossip girls lie as we go. To break is.
Leif:Um, Looks like the protesters outside aren't the only
Leif:ones who think Bass is an ass.
Leif:And we move into Act 4. We are at
Leif:the event of the week. Serena and Lily have a little run in, and
Leif:Serena doesn't have time for Lily's lies.
St:Loved this. This is the first time they saw each
St:other since the hospital, right?
Leif:Yeah, I think so.
St:And I. I don't know if you remember. Serena was in the car
St:accident with Trip, the
St:congress person. Yeah.
Shannon:Right, right, right, right.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Trip and Lily is really upset about her being with a married
Leif:man.
Shannon:Sure.
Leif:So, uh, she's not allowed home.
St:M. And then they kind of had a little bit of
St:a makeup in the hospital,
St:but then they haven't.
Leif:Yeah. She still is back living at Blair's.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Which brings another point. Nate and Serena were
Leif:having sex in Blair's bed.
Shannon:Oh.
Leif:It's also the same bed where Blair and Nate have had
Leif:sex. Chuck and Blair, Serena and
Leif:Carter, Serena and Carter. And also
Leif:Blair and Carter.
St:Oh, geez.
Leif:Blair slept with Carter for, like, two episodes
Leif:when they were Jen's turn.
Leif:Everyone sleeps in Blair's bed.
St:Yeah. Dan and Vanessa need to head over, head off to the
St:Upper east side.
Leif:Uh, how pissed off would Blair be?
St:Oh, my God. She'd be. Yeah, that'd be
St:fantastic.
Leif:Uh, Chuck enters the party, and
Leif:a crowd starts whispering. However, Lily
Leif:just smiles and gives Chuck a hug and asks about Blair and
Leif:Elizabeth.
Shannon:The only good parent child relationship.
Leif:Yes.
Shannon:In the entire show.
St:Only good. A good mom when it's not her kid.
Shannon:Yep. And he's only a good son when it's Lily.
St:Yeah. However, and, and Robin
St:pointed this out. Lily really
St:fought for this relationship.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Like Lily really was patient
St:when Chuck was not ready to have
St:it off the rails. Yeah. And, and
St:blaming her with, with reason. I don't
St:think any 18 year old kid wouldn't have
St:the reaction he had toward his
St:stepmom dating someone else the day
St:after his dad died.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:So Lily then like really fighting for that
St:relationship. I, uh, felt
St:like it was really powerful for them to still be
St:so good together and for him to really have that
St:love for her.
Shannon:Yeah. And I love like her attitude towards
Shannon:the like possibility of meeting even M. Though, like I don't like
Shannon:this character of like Chuck's mom. Uh, but
Shannon:her being like, I was hoping to meet her. Yeah.
St:Yeah. I'm, I'm excited to have this
St:part of your family into our family.
St:Exactly.
Leif:Nate and Serena have it out in the stairwell. Nate
Leif:admits how hurt he was with the person that he lost his
Leif:virginity to. Serena abandoned, uh, him
Leif:immediately.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:I love that.
Shannon:Like Serena starts the scene angry. She's like angry with mom. And then
Shannon:she's like, now I'm angry with you, Nate. And then he just like turns
Shannon:it around on her and she's like, oh, now I'm angry at
Shannon:me.
Leif:That makes, that makes sense. God
Leif:damn it, Nate. You made sense for the first time in your life.
Shannon:Yeah. Twisted guy logic was the
Shannon:most straightforward logic ever. Fuck.
St:And I thought this was a good scene
St:for good Drama happens when
St:you have two people that aren't
St:necessarily right or wrong in how they feel in
St:the moment.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:And they both had legitimate feelings happening.
St:Nate did slut shame her. And
St:that's gotta hurt. And
St:he had reasons because he was hurt. But
St:he does love her and she does love
St:him. And so I just felt this was good
St:drama. And it was the kind of drama that I'm watching
St:thinking, this isn't going to break them up, this is going to bring
St:them together. Which for Serena is a
St:stretch because Serena is ready to
St:bounce.
Leif:She's got to go.
St:Yeah. She's just give me some
St:32 year old hunk walk by and
St:then I'm off. Off.
Leif:Or at least someone who's read a book.
St:You think Aaron's read a book?
Leif:Uh, yeah. I mean he went to college art books.
Leif:Jack Bass is at the party and he makes a big show
Leif:of an apology to Lily. Rufus arrives just
Leif:in time to be self righteous and threaten violence.
Shannon:This is the one moment was like, Jack, get The out
Shannon:like don't talk to Lily.
Leif:Yeah, yeah, totally messed up. But
Leif:I feel like Rufus was almost happy to see him just so he could be
Leif:self.
Shannon:He's like, oh, somebody I can take out all my anger on
Shannon:who deserves it and it makes me look good.
St:What I like even more for one. For one
St:Rufus would. If Rufus ran up and just beat
St:the shit out of this guy sight unseen, I wouldn't
St:have been mad. I actually would have like
St:had a little more respect for Rufus if he would have
St:just been like, oh, Jack's here. Fists
St:up. But the frame be like
St:if you come anywhere near her again then uh, you're
St:gonna regret it. It's like Rufus,
St:as Jack shows us with the wink,
St:you are not intimidating
St:as much as I was like wow, Jack, that's really fucked up.
St:Like you said you like a good villain. And that
St:wink when Ruhnus threatens him, um, it
St:just, just all of the energy and power
St:that Rufus put into that threat was
St:just.
Leif:Yeah. And he
Leif:deserved it.
St:Completely. Completely. Yeah. Like fuck you, Rufus. Are you
St:uh, who are you fighting, Rufus? You gotta get your
St:guitar in hand. Bruised.
Shannon:Despite like Rufus being like still kind of
Shannon:pissy with Lily and passive aggressive towards her, I'm
Shannon:glad he didn't use this opportunity to like throw her under
Shannon:the bus. Or I was like, hey, loudy go off with Jack
Shannon:or some like that. Like I'm glad he actually like still stuck,
Shannon:stood up for her and was.
St:Like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Shannon:But no, he's not intimidated.
St:He's not intimidating.
Leif:Dan and Jenny have a brief conversation and Jenny
Leif:calls Dan out for buying into the double standard between boys and
Leif:girls. You tell him,
Leif:Jenny.
St:Yeah, yeah. I
St:forgot to mention when Jack mentioned the lists of
St:drugs that he's, that he's on, he's like, like I
St:was drinking a lot.
Steve:That was this.
St:Some doctor prescribed this and some meth.
Leif:Some over the counter, uh, medicine that's
Leif:recently got put behind the counter.
St:Yeah, it ends
St:with and some meth. Yeah.
Leif:Okay.
Shannon:But yeah, Serena, uh, or rather Jenny makes the point.
Shannon:Like when everyone, when you were 16 years old you
Shannon:were in love with Serena and everyone thought it was adorable and it's
Shannon:like, yep, yep, this is, this is true.
Shannon:Like poor Jenny.
St:And Dan's the one to say that to cuz he'll, he'll
St:internalize that somewhat. He's also doing
St:the dumb patriarchal thing of protecting his little
St:sister's virginity, which he has it.
St:It is the big reason that he and Nate aren't as close as
St:they could have Been now that they are again,
St:they're like friends again. But him
St:protecting Jenny's vagina is
St:why it would caused a huge rift between
St:him and Nate. And honestly, who on this
St:show would have treated Jenny
St:better than Nate?
Shannon:Yeah, yeah, I know we talked about that last time
Shannon:I was here and I like, you guys like convinced me. I was like, uh, oh,
Shannon:now I kind of want Jenny and Nate.
Leif:It looks weird on screen because the actors
Leif:ages and, and again, story wise,
Leif:I love them.
St:Yeah, yeah. And also Chase, as
St:you mentioned a few seasons ago, had a big say in
St:that, that he didn't feel right because of the age
St:difference.
Shannon:Speaking of, how old is Damien supposed to be?
Leif:He's the same age as Serena. Uh, because she wants to school at Serena.
Shannon:Oh, right, right, right. Okay, so that's, it's like 18.
Leif:Uh, 19.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Okay, so he's the same, he's
Leif:the same age as Nate.
St:Yeah, 19 by.
Leif:So there's, there's two years difference.
Shannon:Yeah, yeah. Okay.
St:Yeah. And I even brought that up last week and then
St:was like, oh, yeah, that's like a, a
St:senior dating a freshman.
Shannon:Really?
St:Yeah, you know, it's a stretch kind of, but
St:it's, you know. Yeah, no senior.
Leif:That's less than, yeah, senior dating a, a uh, sophomore.
St:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which, yeah, I was
St:a senior dating a sophomore, so it's okay.
Leif:Dan is quickly distracted by Vanessa who shows up
Leif:wearing a very tight dress. Vanessa just
Leif:smirks as Dan is drawn over to her.
Leif:Vanessa is still annoyed about the different zones thing
Leif:and teases a drooling Dan again.
Shannon:Even the characters are bored by this Jenny plotline. Like
Shannon:he's like, ah, you shouldn't fuck
Shannon:Vanessa. Like, I
Shannon:just love that. Like he can't be bothered. Yeah.
Shannon:Uh, but yeah, it's not a friends only dress.
St:Well, yeah, but V does not show up to play in this
St:either. Like she's definitely
St:letting Dan know. Like if you want friends only
St:zones and yeah, yeah.
St:M. Actually, I thought she looked good in that dress
St:too.
Shannon:Like I, no, she definitely did. Yeah. Just like
Shannon:I, I, I actually liked that Dan got
Shannon:a distraction in the scene because I was so bored
Shannon:with him talking to funny. So I
Shannon:was like, thank God.
St:Yeah, yeah. But, uh, yeah, I did think Vanessa
St:looked good. Uh, and although, and we've talked about
St:this before, they just don't know what to do with her hair half the
St:time. And I feel like that's such a
St:shame for her because, because she's
St:a very pretty person.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:And they constantly are just trying to like, do
St:Something with her hair. And nobody on
St:this all white cast knows how to handle
St:a woman of color's hair.
St:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:Hair's not good, but the rest.
St:Yeah, top notch.
Leif:And yeah, thank God we're back to an Upper east side party, because we had
Leif:several episodes in a row with either no party or, like, an NYU
Leif:party, and there was a lot of bad fashion.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Mhm.
St:Yeah.
Leif:So all four of the women had nice, uh,
Leif:dresses.
St:Yes, they did. Did.
Leif:Nate approaches Jenny and apologizes for calling
Leif:Rufus. Jenny reveals the real reason why
Leif:Damen got aggressive with Serena. And Nate says Jenny can't
Leif:be involved.
St:With someone dealing drugs.
Leif:Jenny takes a shot at Nate's hypocrisy and
Leif:sees Damien enter the party. Nate tries to
Leif:stop Jenny from leaving with Damien, but Damien drops Nate
Leif:with a single punch. And that's when we get the
Leif:live from Gossip Girl.
Leif:Looks like little J. Is about to do some dirty dancing of her,
Leif:um, own.
Shannon:This is the. This was the second. What? It was in
Shannon:this scene when, like, Nate says
Shannon:to Dan, he's like, oh, yeah, Jenny went off with
Shannon:Damien and that guy deals drugs and what?
Shannon:Yeah, I do. Like, Jenny's, uh, just like,
Shannon:very, like, just so
Shannon:monotone, like, go away, traitor.
St:Well, and also,
St:Jenny, why are you telling Nate about the
St:drugs? Yeah, Nate has already
St:turned on you once.
Leif:Yeah, I'm guessing she. She guys
Leif:assumed Nate would not care about drugs.
Shannon:Yeah, I might be. I wrote big letters. Drugs.
Shannon:Oh, no.
Shannon:It escalated to punch really quickly, though. I don't
Shannon:really get why he punched.
St:Yeah, I. I actually had that thought
St:that he didn't need to. No, it could
St:just be like, okay, we're out. Okay, we're going.
Leif:Well, Nate stepped in front of him and said, there's no way I'm leaving
Leif:with, uh, letting you leave with her.
Shannon:Yeah. And then he just punched him. It was like two. Like, he's.
Shannon:One sentence into that party, and he punched.
Shannon:I was like, oh, my goodness.
Leif:He knows Nate's style. He knows Nate was ready to fight.
Shannon:Uh, yeah, he's probably, like, getting annoyed. It's like, okay, you already,
Shannon:like, with my date with Serena at the last party.
Shannon:Like, get out of here.
St:Already over you now.
Leif:So we go into Act 5, and Nate lets
Leif:Serena, Dan, and Vanessa know that Damien is a drug dealer
Leif:and Jenny left with him. Nate is going after
Leif:Jenny while the others are going to find Rufus and Lily.
Shannon:Damien is worse than we thought. Uh,
Shannon:like, what. What justification do
Shannon:any of these characters have for hating Damien as much as they
Shannon:do?
St:Yeah. And we.
Leif:Well, I Mean, from dating Serena's perspective, he did sexually
Leif:harass Serena.
Shannon:Fair.
Steve:That.
Shannon:That. But that. They're saying that he's like, they're
Shannon:basing this off of the drug deal.
Leif:Yeah, but that. But now that.
Shannon:Yeah, yeah. Are basing this off of the
Shannon:drug deal, it's like, he's worse than we thought.
Shannon:It's like. Oh, my God. It.
St:And we also have Lily and Rufus making up
St:here.
Leif:That's the next scene. That's the next scene.
St:Oh, my bad, My bad.
Leif:Yeah. So Rufus and Lily are having a quiet conversation.
Leif:Rufus admits that he went to Holland's apartment with the
Leif:intention to even the score, but couldn't go through
Leif:with it. They declare their love for each other and are about
Leif:to kiss when Serena, Dan and Vanessa show up
Leif:to tell them about Jenny.
St:Great. Like, you're back together. Can we stop all the. The
St:fucking dumb drama? Can we make this show about the
St:fucking kids again? And like, as we know, by the end
St:of this, nope, Lily's gotta lie somewhere.
St:We've gotta keep lying about this same fucking thing. That.
St:That. I need to fly away for some reason. Fuck
St:you, Lily.
Leif:Chuck's lawyer comes to inform him that the case has
Leif:taken a turn for the worse. Christian
Leif:conservative groups are threatening a boycott and the only
Leif:option for Chuck is to give up control of the empire
Leif:for PR reasons. Jack sneaks
Leif:up from behind the lawyer and volunteers himself for the job.
Leif:Chuck shuts it down, but Jack just smiles and
Leif:says he can wait till Chuck goes bankrupt and
Leif:buy the hotel for pennies on the
Leif:dollar.
Shannon:I love Chuck's line in the scene where he, like,
Shannon:talks about Christian conservatives and he's like, we have those in
Shannon:Manhattan.
St:Yeah, well. And
St:also Chuck makes the point of like, well, great.
St:Like that kind that can bring in the clientele
St:I'm looking for. Let them protest. And he's right.
St:It's dogma. You know,
St:this is exactly what you want.
Leif:But as we find out later, the lawyer is in on it.
St:Yeah, of course. Which, of course, also
St:super illegal. Totally get him
St:disbarred.
Leif:Well, I guess he. You get a fat payout from Jack on this.
Leif:Or he's hoping to, obviously.
Leif:Nate shows up at the Smith Hotel and asks for Damian's
Leif:room at the front desk. We cut to Jenny and Damien making out
Leif:as they enter a hotel room. Then we cut back to
Leif:Nate being led into an empty room at the Smith
Leif:Hotel. And we go back to Jenny and Damien and it's
Leif:revealed they booked a separate room at the Empire.
Leif:Damian asks for Jenny's consent And she
Leif:agrees.
Shannon:Now, see, Serena, that's how you do a scheme.
Shannon:That was like. I enjoyed watching them walk into, like, the
Shannon:bed main made a room. I was like, yeah,
Shannon:got him.
Leif:Um, yeah, I like how they shot that. They kept, like, cutting back and
Leif:forth.
St:And once again, Damien isn't
St:an about this.
Shannon:No.
St:And if you think about it, pulling off
St:something like this, that's
St:exciting. That would be hot.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:Like.
St:Like, Like, I don't feel like at this point,
St:Jenny is do it like had a scheduled.
Shannon:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
St:That. Yeah. She, you know, she knew that this was going to happen tonight,
St:but now it's, like, exciting. And now I feel like she
St:has the buy in. She really wants to.
Leif:Yeah, I think she wants to have sex with Damian.
Leif:She's not sure she's ready.
St:Yeah. Yes. And I feel like in this moment,
St:she recognizes she's ready.
Leif:And if Damian would have said the right thing,
Leif:it would have happened. Yeah.
Shannon:Like, interrupt this scene, though, uh, with more.
Leif:Yeah. Blair finds Chuck sulking at the bar and who
Leif:relays the info about the boycott and Jack's offer to take over.
Leif:Blair suggests first herself, and then Lily
Leif:has options, both of which Chuck declines. Chuck
Leif:gets a text and whispers DNA test
Leif:results. Looks like we got another choice.
Shannon:So stupid. Who cares what the DNA test
Shannon:results are? Like? You, like, it's like you
Shannon:barely know this woman. Why the would you
Shannon:sign your hotel? Why do you trust her?
St:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:So silly. Not to you, Lily.
St:Batman whispers through his butthole lips.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:We go back to Damien and Jenny. They are in the bed, and
Leif:Jenny stops the action for a moment to admit that she is a
Leif:virgin. Damien says it's not that big of a deal,
Leif:but Jenny disagrees and said it's a very big deal to her.
Leif:When Damian tries to push on, Jenny has second
Leif:thoughts and says she can't do this. An
Leif:annoyed Damien gets up, leaves, and tells
Leif:Jenny.
St:I, uh, knew you were just a kid.
Leif:Okay, dude, if you knew she was just a kid, why are you trying to
Leif:her then?
Shannon:I hate this scene so much. I like,
Shannon:it really made me give up on this episode. It's
Shannon:just like, why can't Damian be an interesting
Shannon:character where it's like, okay, he is kind of questionable. He does
Shannon:deal drugs. He is, like, a little bit older. He did try to hook up with
Shannon:Serena, but, like, maybe he does really like Jenny and maybe he
Shannon:is, like, a good, like, partner for her. And, like, why can't we
Shannon:have a complex character in situations? Like, nope, he
Shannon:has to. It has to be so, like, Straightforward. He's a dick. He
Shannon:just wanted to get her pants the whole time. Uh, all.
Shannon:All of his. Like, him turning down Serena, saying, I really liked.
Shannon:I really like Jenny. That was just. He just wanted to
Shannon:her.
Leif:Yeah, yeah, I had. Yeah. The same exact thoughts
Leif:is if he just cared about
Leif:sex, one, why turn down Serena? Two,
Leif:why not just lie in. In the moment?
Shannon:Yeah, exactly.
Leif:Or, you know, even just. Just, you know, wait a couple dates.
St:And more than anything, like, had you just
St:finished the conversation you were having? You're like, can we talk
St:about this afterwards?
Shannon:Yeah. After being like, you can talk to me about anything.
Shannon:And like, what? Let's. Let's. And wanting to talk about it doesn't make
Shannon:sense. Earlier that day I wanted to talk about it. And
Shannon:so now all of a sudden you're like, I don't want to talk about it.
St:When Jenny's like this. When he's like, it's not a big deal. And Jenny's
St:response is, well, it is a big deal to me. Oh,
St:I understand. That's not what I meant. But no,
St:he's like, can't we talk about this after I. After I throw it in you?
St:Can't we, like, can't we revisit this after?
St:You know, after I'm like, guys, I'm falling asleep.
Leif:Just bad writing.
Shannon:Yeah, really bad writing. I do like Jenny's line that I
Shannon:chose you. I feel like she is, like, she
Shannon:is more maturity than any character in this show at this
Shannon:point, because it's like, it is her recognizing. Like. Like, I'm making a choice.
Shannon:I have chosen you, and that matters
Shannon:to me. Like, that is, uh, like, that's a lot for a 16
Shannon:year old to recognize that.
St:Yeah. And up until this moment, like you
St:said, Damien is a complex character
St:who is dealing with this really up
St:family situation with his dad on pills, and
St:now he's also dealing. So he's doing
St:bad, but, like, good people do
St:bad. Why did he have to stay a bad person?
Shannon:Yeah. And he gets introduced as a complex character who was like,
Shannon:very good in school. Like, that did better than Serena, was
Shannon:like a really good grades and all this stuff. And so to have a
Shannon:character who had so much promise and potential be,
Shannon:like, also taking this kind of like, bad boy route.
Shannon:It's like, he was really interesting.
St:No, no. Was it his. His contract is up. Is
St:he. Do we not see him again for
St:ever? For a year?
Leif:Um, he does come back. Um, yeah,
Leif:he's not. He's not done.
St:Okay.
Shannon:So you writers. Yeah.
St:Yeah. You could have made him Better we.
Leif:Go into the epilogue. Lily gets off the phone with
Leif:the NYPD and says they will continue to look for her,
Leif:but they probably won't find her. Tonight, Lily is at
Leif:the loft with Rufus, Serena, Dan and Vanessa.
Leif:Just then, Jenny returns home and announces her
Leif:breakup with Damian and the desire just to go to a
Leif:room to sleep.
St:Parents, if you're listening,
St:your kids are gonna punish themselves
St:more than you ever can.
St:Jenny walks into this house
St:defeated.
Shannon:That's my exact note. So defeated.
St:Yeah, she's defeated. And
St:she has done this before. And every time
St:Jenny has acted out and done something
St:to piss off Rufus, whether she was right or
St:wrong in what she did, she has lost and come
St:back and beat herself up more than any
St:grounding, any punishment, any of that will
St:do. Like, Jenny's a good girl for the most
St:part. She does some weird up
St:sometimes, like getting involved with this drug dealer.
St:But again, like we said, people are complex.
St:You can be a good kid who gets involved the same, some
St:bad. And she's a good
St:kid. She's going to beat herself up
St:more than any punishment your
St:overbearing, stupid,
St:ridiculous father will give.
Shannon:And why are you kicking your daughter when she's already down?
Shannon:Like, I'm sorry for you, but that's what happens. And
Shannon:like, he was about to say something like, so self
Shannon:righteous and dickish and like, I'm, um, so
Shannon:glad that she just cuts him off as like, like, can I go
Shannon:to my room?
St:Yeah.
Shannon:Like, she's just so, like a poor Jenny. Like, she comes to
Shannon:expect, like her life to be this. Because that's,
Shannon:um, what her character is. It's just the world
Shannon:on her.
St:Yes. And. And. And her dad is the
St:anus that it comes out of, you know, like
St:he's the orifice of the world
St:because he's never handling her
St:with any kind of. Of good
St:parental.
Shannon:Not even kindness. Like, there's not even
Shannon:kindness.
St:Yeah, no, it's an I told you so to your kid.
Shannon:Unnecessary. She came home and like, and she just said
Shannon:like, we broke up. Like, shouldn't you be a little
Shannon:concerned for her feelings at all? Like, you'd, like, even
Shannon:you should be celebrating for one for yourself. Yeah, like,
Shannon:congrats, you won, Rufus. But now, like, actually
Shannon:take care of your daughter. But no, it's like, she came back,
Shannon:she broke up with the guy you didn't want her to be with, and you're still being
Shannon:like, well, I told you so. Yeah,
Shannon:such.
St:Yeah, such.
Leif:On a more positive note, I'm gonna give a compliment to both.
Leif:The combination between Taylor and the styling department because, like, for
Leif:most of this episode, she passes as. Like,
Leif:she could pass as young 20s. This scene,
Leif:she looks her age. She looks like a child.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Yeah.
Leif:Uh, and.
St:And even more so in the next scene. Yeah.
Leif:Serena follows Jenny to her bedroom, and Jenny lies to her
Leif:about losing her virginity and blows it off as not a
Leif:big deal. However, as Serena leaves, we see a
Leif:sad face. Jenny listening to I've had the time of
Leif:my life from Dirty Dancing.
Shannon:I'm so sad. Jenny has no one to talk to.
Shannon:Like, and like, Serena could have been that for her, and
Shannon:then instead she ski. Yeah. She.
Leif:Vanessa's right in the other room.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:Nessa's right in the other room.
Shannon:Yeah. Yeah.
St:Why?
Leif:Why? Is it Serena?
St:Yeah. Yeah.
Shannon:Truly. Yeah.
St:And. And lying to Serena is just kind of
St:perfect.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:You know, like, you're going to come.
St:Yeah. You think you saved my virginity?
St:No, you. I'm going to make you think
St:I went through with.
Shannon:Yeah. I kind of like that she. That she lies.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:Yeah. It's like, it's really business. And
Shannon:you're not the person that I want to open up to about.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:So.
St:Yeah. And I feel like had Jenny come in or Vanessa come
St:in five minutes later, she would have been like. Like.
Leif:Like, let it all out.
St:Tell her everything you know.
Leif:Chuck goes to Elizabeth's hotel room, and as, uh, she is
Leif:packing to leave, Chuck admits that he should have trusted
Leif:her. He asked Elizabeth to take over the hotel for him.
Leif:She is reluctant at first.
Shannon:So.
Leif:So, so stupid.
St:So dumb.
Leif:This. This is why I should have trusted you, Bubby.
St:I'm going to say this. That when she. When there was a
St:novel knock on her door before
St:she opened it and it was Chuck, there's the knock on the door, and I turn to
St:Robin, I go, that's Jack. And then it was
St:Chuck. I'm like, okay, he's got to sign it over to her first.
Leif:This is why you don't give 19 year olds millions of dollars.
Leif:Lily gets a call from Cece who says she's passed
Leif:due for a test and Dr. Daddy is the best man for
Leif:the job.
Shannon:Up.
Leif:Lily lies to Rufus about her reason for flying out
Leif:to cc and Rufus tells her to go and says
Leif:he needs some time alone with Jenny.
St:Clean slate. Clean slate. Starting when I
St:get back, right?
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Like when I land. It's a clean slate from then,
St:right?
Shannon:Not.
St:Not now.
Shannon:Uh, just. Just remember that you agreed. Did this. This
Shannon:was your introduction. Just remember that you agree that we remember
Shannon:this conversation.
Leif:So what. What are Your thoughts on this? Other than it's a bad storyline of
Leif:Lily lying. What. What is she lying about?
St:Yeah, so that's.
Steve:That.
St:That is all of what I wrote down. Why the
St:lies? Why is.
Shannon:Why not just say, like, my mother really wants to see
Shannon:him. Yeah.
St:Yeah. My ex husband is the best at
St:the. In the world at my mom's very
St:specific type of cancer, and she wants to
St:see him because she trusts him.
Leif:Oh, so you didn't catch that, uh, what Lily's line or what her
Leif:line was? It's time for
Leif:your test, Lily.
St:Huh?
Shannon:Huh?
Leif:It's time for your test, Lily. That's what
Leif:Cece said. Oh, you missed that, didn't
Leif:you?
St:I did.
Shannon:I did too.
St:Is Lily sick?
Shannon:I think they could have written that better, cuz I did. That
Shannon:really went over my head. I thought it was just her, like, lying
Shannon:about him again then.
Leif:Yeah.
St:Yeah, I. I missed that.
Shannon:That's a good. That's a good writing plot. That's
Shannon:way better than what I thought. Yeah, I wish I caught
Shannon:that.
St:Yeah.
Steve:Because I.
St:Because to me, it was just like
St:I'm sneaking behind my husband's back
St:to get medical treatment for my, uh, mom.
St:Like, why? Like I get. Your
St:husband is an immature prick, Rick.
Leif:Or whatever. We got earlier that
Leif:Cece was well in like,
Leif:October. Yeah. And then. But she didn't get.
St:Or she came home in October, but she was well in August.
Shannon:Yeah, but like, cancer recurs and progresses and like, uh,
Shannon:I don't know, she was.
Leif:She was declared cancer free.
Shannon:Cancer occurs. But why.
Leif:But then it was like, why is Lily still
Leif:seeing him, um, three months later?
St:And my thing was, I mean, I know that when
St:you are in remission, you still get testing
St:frequently, especially the first year. You get
St:several and then the following. So that's where my mind
St:went that, like, okay, we need follow up stuff.
Shannon:Yeah. This to me, made sense.
St:So it didn't. Yeah, it didn't hit any red flags
St:other than why wouldn't you
St:just be like, from the start, you
St:just had it all out and had this whole heart to heart with Rubus.
St:My mom really wants this guy to be the doc or
St:I want this guy to be my
St:doctor. Like, my mom tested for
St:this. Now I need to test to see if I have this thing
St:from what you pointed out. And
St:I want to go to the best in the world, and he
St:might have to, I don't know, see me naked.
St:He's a doctor and it's medical.
St:Why lie?
Leif:Um, Dan shows up at Vanessa's dorm, and Dan and Miss. He
Leif:was confused and all mixed up because he had. They
Leif:had mutually decided to keep the relationship
Leif:secret. But that just isn't how
Leif:Dan likes to roll. The two make it past their
Leif:first fight as a couple and kiss.
Shannon:I like the energy of this scene. I like the
Shannon:kind of bit of, uh, like, I'm going to talk to Mike, my friend,
Shannon:about the girl that I like. Yeah,
Shannon:let's keep it.
St:Yeah, it was cute. I'm
St:glad this is done. That
St:part of this.
Shannon:I'm glad it took one episode and we're done.
St:Yeah. That we're not high. If they would have
St:done an entire we are
St:sneaking around thing that would have been
St:more entertaining if it wasn't a, uh. We need boundaries, and we
St:need to know if it was a, uh, we're not telling anyone and we're going to
St:sneak around.
Shannon:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
St:That's. That could have had legs. That could have lasted a
St:little while.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:But it was this stupid, like,
St:I like my friend too much.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Like, I don't know.
St:I. Writers.
Leif:Nate and Serena are alone, and Serena apologizes for
Leif:leaving after they slept together the first time.
Leif:They declare their love for each other and also kiss.
Shannon:I'm glad Nate gets this apology from her. I
Shannon:think that that probably was, like, something.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:Very healing. Uh, for. I was. I was like, oh, Like, I didn't
Shannon:realize how hurt he was by that either. And
Shannon:then, like, thinking about it the way he worded it, it's like, poor
Shannon:boy.
St:Well, and if you think about Nate in episode
St:one of Gossip Girl.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:When Serena shows up.
Leif:Serena that.
St:Well, that. That first shot, you know, when you see his
St:face and he's just like, uh.
Shannon:And it's like. Honestly, it's. The one, like, bad thing he's ever
Shannon:done is cheat girlfriend with
Shannon:her best friend. Like, that was not a cool move. But it's like,
Shannon:okay, like, if he, like, really, really loves
Shannon:Serena and loved her and, like, had these strong,
Shannon:strong feelings that it wasn't just kind of like a, uh, one off
Shannon:for him. It just, like, she just bounced after.
Shannon:It's like, oh, poor boy.
St:He. He did. He was a little
St:shady during the political stuff with.
St:With, like, the gambling Serenas.
Leif:Yeah. Nate. Nate does do some shady stuff on occasion.
Leif:He gets away with it just because he's so boring. No
Leif:one remembers it well.
St:And he typically does it because he's just being
St:led into, like, he's just following
St:directions.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:He has no.
Shannon:He has an obedient good dog.
St:Yeah. Good boy.
Leif:Who's a good point.
St:Who uh, wants a milk bone. You go up in this guy's
St:political career and I'll give you a milk Bone.
Leif:Yes. And sometimes your dog will rip the plant out of the planter
Leif:and there's dirt all over.
St:There's dirt all everywhere. Every time, every now and then, your dog will shit on
St:the carpet. But.
Leif:Chuck returns to his suite to find Blair waiting
Leif:with celebration champagne.
Leif:And Blair really sets herself up with this one
Leif:for the blame.
Shannon:Because, yeah, yeah, she, she could have been
Shannon:like. Cuz she goes, we're celebrating you for opening
Shannon:your heart up to your mom. And then she looked at his and she
Shannon:goes, and me encouraging you to do
Shannon:it.
St:And yeah. Once again, we
St:have Blair celebrating Chuck.
St:And I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop.
St:Chuck has celebrated Blair to
St:Blair. Right. But I
St:keep waiting for him to have to
St:step up for Blair the way Blair has been stepping up
St:for him for the past 15 seasons.
St:Episodes.
Shannon:Yep. If. If Serena
Shannon:are dogs, Blair and Chuck, uh, uh, are cats.
St:Love cats.
Shannon:But yeah, I feel like it's. It's always going to be like Chuck is like
Shannon:the wounded, you know. Yeah,
Shannon:boy that, like, she needs to, you know.
Leif:And the final scene, Elizabeth opens her
Leif:door to find Jack and Doug the lawyer with big
Leif:Cheshire grins on their faces. It appears
Leif:Chuck has been set up by
Leif:malpractice.
Shannon:Yeah.
Shannon:And like, where's the doctor that forged the DNA
Shannon:test then? Like, because I still don't
Shannon:believe it. And if I do believe it, it's like, it
Shannon:sucks. It sucks no matter what this storyline.
St:But if Elizabeth has a sister, which
St:her name was Evelyn at one point, now it's Elizabeth
St:come back. Or vice versa.
Shannon:It wouldn't like either way. Like, she wouldn't test
Shannon:positive as, like his. As his mother.
St:Well, I'm. I don't know how. Like I,
St:uh. Just a police DNA test just to say if you're
St:related or not. Like, it may not be
St:as in depth as
St:a mayor. Like, like ancestry, like
St:as an ancestry test or something like that. It's just,
St:uh, is this a person, A match to be my relative? Could
St:this person be my mother? Because it's even not
St:an entirely exact science. So
St:like, could this person be my mom?
Leif:But it would be just like Chuck to have a mother that would betray
Leif:him like this.
St:It would be, it would, it would.
Shannon:Be just like Chuck.
St:It would be old Chuck
St:getting betrayed by moms again.
Shannon:Old Chuck having to be like. Because
Shannon:it's the only thing that makes him likable is having parents who betray. Betray
Shannon:him.
St:Right. Right. Well, and. And here's my other
St:thing about her not being the
St:actual mom, but being a sister or other relative
St:is the line that, that Bart
St:gave to Chuck when they first talked
St:about it, when he said, I can't look at
St:you and not see her. But, like,
St:you're paying her off every month.
Shannon:Yeah, I, like, I don't want it to be real because, like, it really
Shannon:doesn't. It ruins it retroactively. Ruins
Shannon:a lot of, like, touching scenes from when. Like, from, uh,
Shannon:that first season and, like, from the second when it's like,
Shannon:yeah, yeah.
St:Although it does make Bart that much more of an
St:ass. Like, you just lied. You'd be like, oh, no, no, I
St:don't hate you. I just see your mom when I hate you. I mean, look at
St:you.
Shannon:And then, like, Dan's gonna have to take his story
Shannon:back from.
Shannon:Yeah,
Shannon:Charlie Trout found his ball.
Leif:Uh, and gospel girl ends the episode with.
Leif:And just like that, Chuck Bass is
Leif:celebrating a new love. Uh, careful, Chuck.
Leif:It's an open heart. It's vulnerable to the deepest
Leif:wounds. XOXO
Leif:Gossip Girl.
Shannon:M. What?
Leif:He's coming next.
St:I. And. And I was waiting for that to happen at the end, and I
St:was. So. So. Because then
St:when Jack walked in. So
St:what's coming next? Well, Chuck's about to, uh,
St:lose his hotel. So there's going to be some kind
St:of scheme with Blair and
St:Chuck against Jack and Evelyn
St:to get this back. I. I don't see it happening
St:in an episode. I feel like this is setting up one of
St:those three episode arcs that
St:kind of tracks. So I think two more episodes of
St:Jack, maybe three, to
St:figure out what happens to this hotel and then does. Is
St:Chuck broke? You know, is Chuck gonna then be
St:relying on Blair's money
St:to survive? Or is he going to get the hotel
St:back or is he going to get another venture? So I'm. And
St:I'm curious as to that. Despite
St:the fact that I think that the entire storyline is stupid and I.
Shannon:Hate it, so I actually, like, I don't remember what comes
Shannon:next, so I'm not. I am actually, like, theorizing
Shannon:here. So you think that, like, Chuck and Blair will unite over
Shannon:this? Because this seems like the kind of thing historically that would
Shannon:make Chuck turn on Blair.
St:Like, I can see Chuck turning on Blair and
St:Blair trying to fix it.
Shannon:Yeah, because that's what I see.
St:I see Blair trying to scheme to.
Shannon:Fix it and him just self destructing and, like,
Shannon:being like, those girls that I didn't harass. I'm going
Shannon:to now.
St:Uh, we didn't even.
St:We. I don't think we addressed the. You know, I
St:was a kid then at my father's hotel.
Shannon:Uh, last year.
St:Chuck was, like, six months ago.
Leif:Anything with Dan and Vanessa, Rufus?
St:Oh, yeah. Dan and Vanessa, I think, have another couple
St:episodes in them, um, because everyone needs to see
St:it and put the idea in their head that they shouldn't be
St:dating because they're friends, and friends are going to ruin friendship.
St:I see that being the next step in
St:this. In that relationship.
St:I see Nate and Serena having
St:a little bit more time, maybe until someone
St:prettier pops up. Up. Uh, not. I don't
St:want to say prettier, but another pretty person gets in
St:between them at some point. Maybe someone from
St:the past or maybe someone new,
St:but I think that that's got a little bit of time left.
St:Lily and Rufus. Stop.
St:Just stop making a show.
Shannon:He has to do something, like, horrible, like, he has to actually
Shannon:betray her now, because if she is, like. If she
Shannon:is sick, then, like, he has to do something bad
Shannon:that he will feel bad about and regret when he finds out that
Shannon:she's sick.
St:Yeah, that and. Yeah. And, Lily, if you're
St:hiding being sick, that's really shitty.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:Any more final thoughts before we get into segments?
St:I don't think so.
Leif:Let's hop into the Wayback Machine that traveled to
Leif:the fan forums from 2010.
Leif:Hello there. Peabody here. And this is
Leif:the Wayback machine for traveling through time.
St:And this is my boy, Sherman.
Leif:Speak chairman.
Shannon:Hello.
Leif:Good boy. The overall
Leif:impression, they loved it.
Leif:Really?
Shannon:Really. But fans love this
Shannon:episode.
St:This one, unfortunately.
Shannon:Are you kidding? Why?
Leif:Because they love Chuck and Blair.
Shannon:Uh. Uh, okay.
St:All right.
Leif:We had the thing in season two where Canada was
Leif:getting episodes early, and they stopped it, but they apparently came back for
Leif:this episode for some reason. Um, they got early
Leif:episodes, so there was a couple pages of spoiler
Leif:tags. There was a lot of love
Leif:for Nate and Serena.
Shannon:Exact same reaction.
Leif:People wish Jenny would get some actual growth instead
Leif:of going through the same cycle of building her up to come crashing
Leif:down every season. Season.
St:Yeah.
Shannon:Uh, yeah. I don't think it's even that her character needs
Shannon:growth. It's just, like, she needs, like, an opportunity to have a
Shannon:life. Like.
St:Yeah. The person.
Shannon:Like, yeah. Give this character a story.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:That isn't about her crashing and burning, and it isn't about her
St:fighting with her dad over. She's typically right about.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:What are the writers setting up with Nate being the
Leif:main one to protect Jenny.
Shannon:Yeah. I was wondering that, too, if, like, if there is going to be
Shannon:trouble in. In his relationship with Serena now
Shannon:that like Jenny and like it was kind of interesting.
Leif:Uh, the after the punch that Nate goes after and not. Not
Leif:Dan. Dan just kind of like I'll hang out the party.
Shannon:Dan just goes a what?
St:There's also the line and it's kind of a throwaway from
St:Jenny where she goes. It's not like you're available.
Shannon:That too. Yeah. It's not like you're available.
St:Yeah, like, like you are the good
St:guy. You're the good guy today.
Shannon:I want to be. You say that I deserve like the world.
St:Yeah.
Leif:So the Chucky Blair fans did like that. We got some the,
Leif:the. The lovey scenes. But they're also jealous. They didn't get the
Leif:sexy scenes like Nate and Serena and Dan and Vanessa.
St:My one, my one note that I didn't say when,
St:when we got to the first time we see
St:Serena and Nate was. We get it. They
St:bang two episodes in a row. It's like they
St:have to let us know these two are banging.
Leif:Uh, and you got the same thing with Dan
Leif:and Vanessa at the beginning.
St:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Leif:And Jenny and Damian. And Damian
Leif:shirts open too.
St:Yeah.
Leif:But uh, Chuck and flair are fully closed when.
Shannon:When Chuck opens his heart, he closes his
Shannon:pants.
St:I don't want to know what Count Chocula
St:vampire chest he has going on.
Leif:And finally, as. As we mentioned, the ch. The final
Leif:Chuck and Blair scene definitely, uh, foreshadows
Leif:the outfall of Chuck and Blair there.
St:Yeah, yeah, for sure.
Leif:And they love, love to hate Jack and now
Leif:Elizabeth as well.
St:Yep.
Leif:The Lily Chuck scene was adorable.
St:Yes.
Leif:Kind of messed up that Nate and Serena are having sex on Blair's
Leif:bed.
St:Yeah.
Leif:As we mentioned, it's really messed up. As we mentioned
Leif:that that bed is also experienced Serena and Carter, Blair and
Leif:Carter, Chuck and Blair and Nate and Blair.
St:But I don't know. She changes the sheets. I'm sure before Blair
St:comes home. The sheets get
St:changed before comes
St:home.
Leif:Well, the Blair doesn't live there anymore.
St:Exactly. Yeah. So it's cool.
Leif:Like she's just the metaphorical nature.
St:Oh yeah. It's.
Leif:Dan and Vesta should have gone to find Jenny instead of
Leif:Serena at the end.
Shannon:Mhm.
St:Yeah.
Leif:And confusion on how much in
Leif:universe time passed during the long hiatus.
Shannon:Mhm.
St:Yes. Because it, because it
St:seems a few episodes back when we
St:first came back from it, it seemed like it was.
Leif:Just a holiday break.
St:Just a holiday break. Despite being three months.
St:I wonder if it was.
St:You know, they shot that holiday that first
St:One earlier, and then they were put on break
St:until the spring and then started shooting again.
St:Maybe it is. It is weird.
Leif:That is it for this week in fandom. Let's move over to
Leif:episode grade grades.
Leif:I went first last time, says Steve. You get to go first.
St:This week I went with a C
St:minus. I. I started at a
St:B and kind of worked backwards from there. Sometimes it happens when we
St:do the podcast that I'll start off with a, uh, grade, and then we'll.
St:I'll be talking about the episode and I'm like, no, this
St:is really bad. And it came down to a
St:C minus. And I think that's a little generous.
St:I hated the. The virginity plot line.
St:I hated the
St:Dan and Vanessa plot line. I hated the.
St:I hated it. Like, I didn't. I don't want to say hated it, but I. It
St:was not top tier Gossip Girl.
Leif:How about you, Shannon?
Shannon:I. I gave it a D for dog.
Shannon:I thought it was boring and pointless.
Shannon:I like the main plot line about Jenny's virginity.
Shannon:Doesn't matter to me, uh, at all. Like, the
Shannon:way that much it's handled is, like,
Shannon:bad. It's just not fair for this character. Like,
Shannon:I just want this character to have, like, something. Yeah.
Shannon:Like, happen to. For her to move her story
Shannon:forward, but instead, like, yeah, she does keep cycling
Shannon:around just, like, the world shitting on her. And the
Shannon:B plot was better than the A plot, but only
Shannon:slightly. Uh, the most interesting thing about
Shannon:this episode is the cliffhanger and that the rest
Shannon:of the episode is just like, like, like even the
Shannon:characters were bored.
Leif:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Leif:For me, Mo, the Chuck and
Leif:his mom storyline is horrible.
Leif:It's the soap. Daytime soap worthy.
Leif:I mean, I, I don't like the whole virginity point of
Leif:the Jenny storyline, but I did like the
Leif:Jenny and Damian storyline overall,
Leif:up until that last scene.
Shannon:Yeah, I think that last scene just kind of like rewrote it
Shannon:for me where it's like, okay, well, well, yeah.
St:Uh, but, yeah, that could have changed the. The
St:trajectory.
Shannon:I agree.
Leif:Yeah.
Shannon:Yeah.
St:Just a little bit. Yeah.
Leif:Because if that would have ended up well, then that would
Leif:have actually been a good storyline. But because that was even, like, it
Leif:had that. That was the only one that really had potential to be a good
Leif:storyline and it still failed. So this episode
Leif:gets a demi.
Shannon:I heard if, like, she lost her virginity. It was
Shannon:like, he was sweet to her and, like, she was happy about
Shannon:it. And then Serena comes in and she lies about that and she
Shannon:says, no, we. I didn't do it. Like, I Would have been more.
Leif:Oh yeah, way back.
St:Better.
Shannon:Yeah. Writers.
Leif:But yeah, I, I give it a D minus.
Shannon:D minus. Yeah.
St:Yeah. That's your lowest, I think so far.
Leif:I believe it might be
Leif:moving over to stockwash. Steve, who do you got going up?
St:I have Jack and Elizabeth going
St:up.
Shannon:Mhm.
St:I have Vanessa going up
St:for her relationship with Dan. And I
St:have Nate going up. Up for,
St:uh, you know, looking out for Jenny in a
St:better way than other people did and for getting
St:Serena in the end. And that is all I have until
St:I hear what you guys have and might add something to it.
Leif:Shannon, who you got?
Shannon:Yeah, I had Jack and Elizabeth going up.
Shannon:They're. They're scheming a lot of moving
Shannon:parts. Uh, it seems to have worked in their
Shannon:favor. I had Dan and Vanessa going up.
Shannon:Um, they seem like they're
Shannon:like hitting a stride that they're both
Shannon:comfortable and happy with. And
Shannon:I don't know, I guess like I initially had
Shannon:Rufus and Lily going up because they had kind of
Shannon:resolved things, but now I'm not sure about that
Shannon:one. Yeah, I, I would keep them flat.
Leif:Okay.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:For me, I had Jack. Elizabeth obviously
Leif:also gave Chuck's lawyer a little nod because he's in on the scheme.
St:I thought about it, but I feel like
St:there's that part of me that's like this dude is committing
St:fraud. Right,
St:Right. But like he's like the lawyer.
Shannon:He's the most deluious.
St:Yeah. Most to lose.
Leif:Um, I also had Serena going up because I.
Leif:She was trying to do the right thing even though it was the
Leif:ass battery awkward way to do it. Then Dan and
Leif:Vanessa going up. I did not have Nate going up. I had
Leif:him as neutral because he got punched.
Shannon:I was like. For him and Serena, I kind of went back and forth
Shannon:with it a little bit because it's like, okay, Nate got like his
Shannon:apology and like uh, there.
Leif:And Serena got her apology too.
Shannon:Yeah, it's like things are going okay with them. I just. I
Shannon:like ultimately left it on.
Leif:Yeah, I would have had them both up, but I just
Leif:had to knock. Made the neutral cuz he got punch.
Shannon:Yeah, he did get punched.
Leif:Steve, who do you got going down?
St:So I actually. Well, I'll start with Chuck and Blair
St:both going down for getting played.
St:I have Dan going down because he's with
St:Vanessa.
Shannon:No.
St:I did that last week too, that
St:Vanessa goes up. She landed Dan. And Dan
St:goes down because he landed Vanessa. I uh, have
St:Jenny going down because she's clearly once
St:again hitting bot him. I actually had Serena
St:going down Because I hated
St:her scheming in this episode. I thought that her
St:scheming was ridiculous and dumb and
St:led to the fight that she and Nate
St:got into. So I had Serena going down. I have
St:Rufus and Lily both going down as well,
St:because Rufus, for being such
St:an. To his kid this entire time, and
St:Rufus is. You're getting played.
St:You're getting lied to. And Lily, you're going down
St:because you're a liar.
St:And Damien. That's it.
Leif:Shannon.
Shannon:I had Chuck and Blair going down, obviously, for
Shannon:obvious reasons. And then I had Damien going
Shannon:down just because that, like, what a character
Shannon:flip. Just total 180 on,
Shannon:like, so much potential. So much
Shannon:like, he'd, like, he could have had, like, a good relationship and
Shannon:been in this, like, I don't know. There's a lot of potential there.
Shannon:And now it's just, like, we might as well be off the
Shannon:show. We're done with you. And that was
Shannon:actually it. I didn't. I didn't have, like, anyone else going down. Just those
Shannon:three for me.
Leif:I had Damien because, yeah, he. The flip at the end just
Leif:killed his character. Jenny, because she's
Leif:all alone again.
Shannon:No, she seems so, like, disinterested in
Shannon:it now, though. Like, she's so unaffected by
Shannon:her situation. Just like, she know she's nerdy
Shannon:dancing, like, I guess I'll listen to this on my ipod.
Leif:I, uh, had Chuck and Blair because, yeah, they were
Leif:played. And Rufus and L. Because they're
Leif:ridiculous and need to grow up.
St:But here's the best outfits from the last
St:episode we seen.
Leif:Moving to best outfit. Steve, who do you got?
St:I gave it to Vanessa at the dinner.
St:I. When she came in in that to. To be
St:all sexy to Dan, I was like, I'll give it to you, V.
St:I thought that was a, uh. I thought she looked great, so.
St:And that giant necklace that she had. It's funny because Robin's like,
St:oh, that outfit. And I'm like, no, I love it.
St:That's my favorite. Yes.
Leif:This. The strapless Lily dress from Diane
Leif:von Furstenberg.
St:That one.
Leif:Shannon, who you got?
Shannon:I. I had a hard time choosing. I didn't actually like
Shannon:a lot of the outfits in this episode. Uh, and I feel like they
Shannon:didn't show them off either. Like, there weren't, like, a lot of.
St:Shots that, like, this season has not
St:been as.
Shannon:Ah, yeah. Fashionable.
Shannon:Um, but I guess, like, I. I wound up landing on
Shannon:Jenny's outfit at the end. The, like, black. Black
Shannon:kind of, like, high neck that.
Leif:Was from the Salvatore Ferregmo Fall
Leif:2009 collection.
St:I almost put that one down. Yeah, that was my second.
Shannon:It was very like straightforward. Wasn't like
Shannon:flashy. But I. I think like in comparison to all
Shannon:the other outfits of the episode, I think she looked best.
St:And it had that like mesh.
Shannon:Yeah, yeah. Ah.
St:I thought was cool.
Leif:Like that actually wasn't part. That was actually not even part of the dress.
Leif:The actual dress.
Shannon:Oh.
Leif:Really deep be.
Shannon:Oh. I kind like. I kind of like the high neck, like
Shannon:covered part. Yeah.
Leif:Like a shirt on top of it.
Shannon:I think that's um, what made me like it, like. Yeah.
St:Because, uh, because it had like a fishnet kind of
St:feel to it, which just really tied it back to
St:Jenny.
Shannon:Yeah.
Leif:So also shout out to Serena's gray lace
Leif:jersey dress from Stella McCartney. But I ended up
Leif:landing on Blair's red flower print dress by Dior.
Leif:Her m. We've already kind of established that
Leif:Serena's color is gold yellow.
Leif:Uh, Jenny is definitely a black.
Leif:This kind of, I think is the first time we've really got
Leif:a prominent red dress from Blair and that is
Leif:definitely her color. My favorite
Leif:outfit of the whole show is her episode from season four,
Leif:episode two with the red Valentina dress.
Shannon:Yeah, red is her color. I agree with that. That I actually
Shannon:liked too Serena's like outfit with the kind
Shannon:of dark purple jumper when she was
Shannon:doing the like scheming. I thought that color looked good on
Shannon:her as well. That like kind of like pinkish purple.
St:Yeah.
Leif:And Blair was also wearing. I'm not sure if it was Chuck's robe or
Leif:her robe with like a Japanese robe at the beginning.
Leif:Yeah, they didn't show the back, but I saw it
Leif:online and there's like a big dragon emblem on it.
Shannon:Really? I love Blair in a row
Shannon:robe.
Leif:That is it for our segments.
Leif:Shannon, thank you once again for joining us. Do you
Leif:have anything you would like to plug this time?
Shannon:No. Still no.
Leif:I can. All right.
Leif:Steve, you plugged anything?
St:I am. So I have mentioned that
St:I'm going to be doing a film with some friends and
St:we're going to start our crowdsourcing real soon. The film is to going
St:called Best of this so I'll be
St:posting stuff about it. Yeah, Shannon knows about it.
St:Uh,
St:our friend's band Turtle Ridge will be featured
St:in it and the singer of Turtle Ridge is
St:my m co star in this movie. Uh, we're
St:very excited about it and like I said, we're starting our
St:crowdsourcing either tomorrow or next week.
St:We're kind of seeing what we're doing. So keep an

Leif:finds himself once again at odds with his uncle Jack
Leif:Bass. Eleanor puts Blair in charge of making sure
Leif:her latest fashion show is a huge success with an
Leif:important client. Rufus attempts to get Jenny
Leif:back on track by volunteering her to have her help
Leif:with Eleanor's fashion show show.
