Leif:

Again, it's just master manipulation by gossip

Leif:

Girls. She's trauma bonding them.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Leif:

It's like classic abusive pattern.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Leif:

And then I like the lines as each people walk in.

Leif:

Like when Dan walks in, he thinks it's him.

Leif:

And then.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Leif:

And then Blair comes in.

Steve:

They're working together.

Leif:

Oh, yeah. Blair walks in, Dan's like, oh, that makes sense. And then

Leif:

Jenny pop and he's like, they're a team.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Foreign.

Leif:

Hey Upper East Siders And all you scandal loving listeners out there,

Leif:

you just tuned into the non judging breakfast pod where the

Leif:

coffee is strong, the waffles are fresh, and the

Leif:

gossip is hotter than ever. My name is Leaf and I'm your

Leif:

seasoned Gossip Girl veteran.

Steve:

And I'm Steve, the newbie, the greenhorn,

Steve:

the, I don't know, Leif. What are you going to call the person at

Steve:

the end of season two now?

Leif:

Well, graduation day is here. Do you think you're ready to be

Leif:

queen?

Steve:

I mean, as long as Gossip Girl's not following me

Steve:

to college, I think I could handle it.

Leif:

All right then.

Steve:

All right, folks, so here's the deal. Leap has

Steve:

been a fan of Gossip Girl since it first aired. And I'm

Steve:

diving in for the first time. And together we're your

Steve:

dynamic duo, bringing you all the drama, romance,

Steve:

and sometimes questionable fashion choices of

Steve:

this iconic 2007 series.

Leif:

That's right. Each week we'll be taking a deep dive into the

Leif:

show one episode at a time. We analyze the

Leif:

hidden parallels and obscure references. Plus we'll

Leif:

also be touching on all the behind the scenes gossip and some

Leif:

stories from fandom.

Steve:

And since we're all about inclusivity here at the non judging

Steve:

breakfast pod, there is always a seat for you at the non

Steve:

judging breakfast table. So go ahead and grab your

Steve:

mimosas, some, coffee or maybe some of

Steve:

Nate and Chuck's special medicine. And let's get this

Steve:

started.

Leif:

Go Birds.

Steve:

Go Birds. Everyone,

Steve:

I'm. I. This city is just

Steve:

amazing right now. Everybody who

Steve:

is, like Nick Wright who was saying that he doesn't

Steve:

think that the Eagles will make it to the red zone

Steve:

just the most. I've never seen

Steve:

a game like that before.

Leif:

It was definitely a beat down.

Steve:

Yeah, that, it was, it was a really. It

Steve:

was really fun. If you're an Eagles fan.

Leif:

And no Blake Lively this year.

Steve:

No, I did notice that she

Steve:

was not hanging out with T. Swift this year.

Leif:

We are here to talk about the season finale of

Leif:

Gossip Girl, Season 2, Episode

Leif:

25, the Goodbye Gossip Girl

Leif:

Original Air Date May 18,

Leif:

2009.

Steve:

Yeah, let's get into

Steve:

it.

Leif:

the title is a reference to the Goodbye

Leif:

Girl, a 1977 Rom

Leif:

com starring Richard Dreyfuss, who he

Leif:

won the Academy Award for best actor

Leif:

and was at the time the youngest person ever do

Leif:

that.

Steve:

I have not seen it, but I have heard of it.

Leif:

The quick synopsis is. After being dumped by her

Leif:

live in boyfriend, unemployed dancer Paula

Leif:

McFadden and her 10 year old daughter Lucy are forced

Leif:

to live with a struggling Off Broadway actor,

Leif:

Elliot Garfield, who is subletting their apartment.

Leif:

Crazy rom com shenanigans.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

The episode was written by Josh

Leif:

Saffron. His fifth episode of this season,

Leif:

ninth episode overall of Gossip Girl.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

A, regular. A regular staple at this

Steve:

point.

Leif:

he's basically the showrunner now.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Episode directed by Dorby Buckley, bringing him

Leif:

up for the big, big guns.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Steve:

I mean, and Norman Buckley, like, he. As

Steve:

we've discussed, not just Gossip Girl,

Steve:

but the teen drama genre. The guy owns it when it

Steve:

comes to directing.

Leif:

His last two episodes that he did were Age, of

Leif:

Dissonance, which was the 18th episode this season. Then he

Leif:

also worked directly with Saffron on New Haven

Leif:

Can Wait.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

And we like New Haven Can Wait, if I remember correctly.

Leif:

We like both those, I think.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Why don't you go ahead, give us the Vulture recap.

Steve:

All right, the Vulture recap. When early on

Steve:

in last night's episode, Serena declares

Steve:

that the end of high school means the end

Steve:

of me on Gossip Girl, your blood

Steve:

ran cold. We knew, as anyone

Steve:

passingly familiar with Chekov's gun

Steve:

method of storytelling would, that

Steve:

precisely the opposite would be true. And

Steve:

that, God and CW willing, our

Steve:

omniscient narrator would continue to stalk this Upper

Steve:

east side princess till her

Steve:

brittle body was Chanel

Steve:

clad, feet up in the grave. And after

Steve:

this dramatic season finale in which

Steve:

resolutions were reached, new side boob

Steve:

was exposed and arch villainous

Steve:

Georgina Sparks vowed to make a dramatic

Steve:

comeback. We can't wait for. For the next season.

Leif:

Neither can I.

Steve:

Neither can I. Yeah.

Steve:

I really had mixed feelings on this episode,

Steve:

but the end, the

Steve:

setups at the end, and we'll get to it. But I

Steve:

really liked how it played out at the end of

Steve:

this.

Leif:

Well, let's go ahead and get into it. Act one

Leif:

begins with a gospel girl monologue.

Leif:

Like everything on the Upper east side high school graduation

Leif:

is done with a little differently. Who needs pomp and

Leif:

circumstance when you have paparazzi?

Leif:

After a quick montage of students preparing for

Leif:

graduation, we See Blair and Serena at a restaurant

Leif:

having breakfast. Serena reveals that Chuck told Serena

Leif:

that he loves Blair, but didn't tell Chuck that Nate and

Leif:

Blair broke up. As they leave the restaurant,

Leif:

paparazzi are outside waiting for Serena.

Steve:

Nice little beginning moment.

Steve:

I'm pretty sure Gossip Girl's gonna follow them.

Steve:

My first watch through of this, she's like,

Steve:

the end of gossip. End of ice cold is the end of Gossip

Steve:

Girl. I'm like, m. I've got. Really. The

Steve:

show is kind of called Gossip Girl.

Steve:

Not to get meta. Not to get too meta on you,

Steve:

Serena, but I think you're. I think you've got at least four years

Steve:

left.

Leif:

Did you pay attention to what they were eating at all?

Steve:

No. Or they eating?

Leif:

Serena had her usual, like, I think croissant or something like

Leif:

that. But Blair had finished

Leif:

eating, but she left a strawberry on her

Leif:

plate.

Steve:

Oh, wow.

Leif:

I wonder if she was trying to lure Sarita into

Leif:

sucking all that to.

Steve:

Try to try to flirt with her.

Leif:

And then also, they're leaving. Serena

Leif:

tries to avoid the paparazzi, and Blair, like, stands back and

Leif:

poses.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Yeah. I love that.

Leif:

Next we get Nate and Vanessa have a friendly

Leif:

conversation. Nate apologizes how their breakup

Leif:

went down, and Vanessa announces that

Leif:

she's still going.

Steve:

To Europe and NYU where Dan

Steve:

is going, so she'll be around

Steve:

more.

Leif:

At least they're in the same school now.

Steve:

I was going to say at least it'll make sense for her

Steve:

to be there, and it won't be Dan just dragging her

Steve:

to parties where no one knows

Steve:

and or likes her.

Leif:

Just as Dan walks up, Nate announces that he

Leif:

is having an after grad party, and Dan and Vanessa

Leif:

are both invited. Nate leaves, and Dan points out

Leif:

something in the program to Vanessa.

Steve:

Yeah, which I knew what it was

Steve:

from that moment.

Steve:

It was so in tune with the

Steve:

rest of this show. It's one of those

Steve:

little Easter eggs that just

Steve:

has blended since the pilot

Steve:

since he can't open

Steve:

automatic doors. It was such a great

Steve:

piece to this.

Leif:

Yeah. Josh, ah Shafren actually does watch the show.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

You can tell. And it's that matter of.

Steve:

It was really a shout out to fans. You know, if you're

Steve:

watching this show enough, you know what's gonna

Steve:

come of this.

Leif:

And then, we have a lot going on in the next scene,

Leif:

Jenny is walking down the hall with Eric, excited that the

Leif:

mean girls will be graduating and there will be peace next

Leif:

year. Said mean girls show up and ask Jenny if she

Leif:

wants to throw her hat in the ring for queen next

Leif:

year. However, Belair blows through and

Leif:

declares she picks the queen.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

And you know what? I feel like

Steve:

these scenes kind of go together. That I'll comment

Steve:

after the next.

Leif:

Yeah. Actually, like, Gossip Girl does this has done this in the

Leif:

past, but never as much as in this episode

Leif:

where you have people entering and leaving the conversation

Leif:

within the same scene.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Steve:

It did happen more here that there.

Leif:

Were that first scene with Nate and Vanessa

Leif:

and Dan, and then now this one. And then also

Leif:

again later it happens at the party at, least once.

Leif:

So after Blair leaves, Penelope declares that they don't listen to

Leif:

Blair anymore and that the girl who brings them the

Leif:

best untold gossip by midnight gets to

Leif:

be queen. And it looks like Little J. Has some

Leif:

competition in the form of new transfer

Leif:

Emma Boardman, who Blair babysat. And there might be

Leif:

blood. So more continuity.

Steve:

Yeah, I appreciated the,

Steve:

continuity again. And it's funny

Steve:

how Blair still doesn't realize

Steve:

that she has completely lost control

Steve:

of the minions M. And that's why.

Leif:

She'S lost control, because she's not paying attention.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

Serena finds Dan waiting in the courtyard. Turns

Leif:

out he wasn't listed in the program. Someone

Leif:

walks up to get Dan to approve an insert in which

Leif:

they misspelled his name. Congratulations,

Leif:

Don.

Steve:

And I love that. How they get it right and then

Steve:

wrong. Daniel Humphrey was left out.

Steve:

Congratulations, Don. It

Steve:

was. It's so great.

Steve:

So great. And it was just.

Steve:

It's. Again, it is a joke for someone

Steve:

who has watched this show from episode one

Steve:

until now. And I always

Steve:

love those kind of jokes. There's that moment

Steve:

in Buffy at the prom when they're all

Steve:

talking about the great things that Buffy has

Steve:

done. And it kind of reminds me of.

Leif:

When she gets the Class Protector Award.

Steve:

The Class Protector Award.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

That this kind of Easter egg makes

Steve:

me feel that same kind of

Steve:

joy that I had during that episode.

Leif:

Elsewhere in the courtyard. So they do it again, this scene

Leif:

where it kind of, like, switches over to Blair approaching

Leif:

Chuck, and she starts to tell Chuck about the breakup,

Leif:

but chickens out at the last second.

Steve:

Yes. And it's

Steve:

just we really kind of felt like this was sort of

Steve:

done, and now here she is running back to Chuck again.

Steve:

Okay, all right. I know that this is what the

Steve:

show.

Leif:

I mean. I mean, did we think it was done?

Steve:

I mean, they should not not done.

Leif:

I mean, he just told Serena last episode that he loved her,

Leif:

and he set up the prompt war.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

actually, the love you was, like, two episodes ago,

Leif:

and then set up the prompt for the last episode.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

In the auditorium, Rufus gets pissy when

Leif:

he remembers he and Lily reserved their graduation seats

Leif:

together. Eleanor and Cyrus try to play

Leif:

matchmaker. Lily clearly wants to get married, but

Leif:

Rufus is still being stubborn.

Steve:

I loved Cyrus and Eleanor in this

Steve:

scene. I love Cyrus the

Steve:

character. And I think that Wallace

Steve:

Shawn has

Steve:

consistently delivered on who

Steve:

that character is and what his personality

Steve:

is. And he's just this ball of joy

Steve:

at all times. And I absolutely love

Steve:

it when he's on. And I love the awkward

Steve:

moment that they all shared and how Lily was an

Steve:

asshole about it and put Rufus on

Steve:

the spot because he deserved it. And

Steve:

I love that.

Leif:

During Queller's convention speech, Blair and

Leif:

Serena are talking about the future and new beginnings until

Leif:

everyone's phones go off. Gossip Girl has some

Leif:

parting comments for the graduating seniors. After the

Leif:

blast, Serena declares that Gossip Girl is going

Leif:

down.

Steve:

Yeah, I thought this whole thing was kind

Steve:

of weird that for one, she

Steve:

sent out a blast that targeted the non

Steve:

judging Breakfast Club and Dan, and

Steve:

nobody stood up because they were all

Steve:

scared at that point. But the even

Steve:

weirder thing to me is the.

Steve:

That's it. She's going down. And it's only

Steve:

because Gossip Girl has been doing this shit this

Steve:

whole time and there has never been an effort

Steve:

to find out who she is. There's only

Steve:

like one conversation

Steve:

that they had at one point where there

Steve:

was speculation when it was the Eric

Steve:

conversation. So now that it's just, oh,

Steve:

now we're going to find her and bring her down,

Steve:

it just seemed.

Leif:

Well, it's the narcissist. And Serena. Gossip

Leif:

Girl was a master manipulator in this episode.

Leif:

She knew exactly how to target each one of these

Leif:

people.

Steve:

True. true. I just thought that.

Steve:

I wish that it would have built to a.

Steve:

We're gonna get her more

Steve:

throughout the season. Yeah, I wish that was an

Steve:

underlying theme rather than

Steve:

a afterthought at the end of the season.

Leif:

Yeah, I just wish it wouldn't really come up at all.

Steve:

But yeah, that. Or that. Or that.

Leif:

I also know even some of the teachers were getting Gossip

Leif:

Girl alerts now because some of them were looking at their phones as

Leif:

well.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

And then this was the actual blast.

Leif:

Not so fast. You're not graduating until I give

Leif:

you my diplomas. Minor labels

Leif:

and labels stick. Nate Archibald,

Leif:

class whore. Dan Humphrey, the ultimate

Leif:

insider. Chuck Bass, coward.

Leif:

Blair Waldorf, weakling. And as

Leif:

for Serena Van der Woodsen, after today,

Leif:

you're officially irrelevant.

Leif:

Congratulations, everyone. You deserve

Leif:

it.

Steve:

Yeah, and I guess that's where I was sort of

Steve:

what do you? Why is everyone

Steve:

responding this way? It was a weird

Steve:

response from the rest of the kids.

Leif:

Did you catch. Dan gave a little subtle

Leif:

smile. I don't know if that was direction or if that was

Leif:

just Penn Badgley being a goofball, as usual, but he

Leif:

just gives, like, a little slight smile when

Leif:

his.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Moving into act two, at an after

Leif:

grad lunch party, Serena is trying to recruit

Leif:

the mean girls into her war against Gossip Girl with

Leif:

little success. Nate sees his grandfather and says he's

Leif:

going to do some damage control. Chuck and Blair seemed willing

Leif:

to help when Serena points out that they probably have the

Leif:

most secrets to protect and.

Steve:

They walk off in different directions.

Leif:

Rufus finds Lily alone, tries to apologize,

Leif:

but is still not ready to move

Leif:

forward.

Steve:

Rufus, when she said what it was and

Steve:

you said to her, you tried to give me money behind my back,

Steve:

and I said not to. Do you hear

Steve:

how dumb it sounds when you say it

Steve:

out loud? Do you hear how

Steve:

dumb it sounds for a reason to break up with

Steve:

this person?

Steve:

And there's almost a moment as he's saying it that

Steve:

he almost has that in his face. Like, when I say

Steve:

it out loud, it doesn't sound so convincing.

Leif:

Nate, in the name of full disclosure, tells the

Leif:

grandfather about Nate literally being a whore for an

Leif:

older married woman. The grandfather isn't

Leif:

thrilled, but promises to protect Nate if

Leif:

anything comes out. As the scene ends, Chuck is looking

Leif:

for Blair, and Nate finally tells Chuck about the

Leif:

breakup.

Steve:

Grandfather is so fucking creepy here,

Steve:

where he's like, oh, welcome to

Steve:

politics. Yeah, welcome to Washington.

Steve:

All right. Yeah. You're banging. Oh, yeah,

Steve:

she's married. Oh, yeah. All right, high five.

Steve:

Oh, she paid you. All right, let me look into this.

Leif:

Well, after he says that she's married, like,

Leif:

I think Graph's response was, tell me more.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Leif:

Dan and Vesta are talking about ditching the party when

Leif:

Serena comes up to try to recruit them on her quest to take

Leif:

down Gossip Girl. However, they seem

Leif:

uninterested. Dan gives a very pragmatic

Leif:

but insensitive ramble about he and Serena are

Leif:

probably going to drift apart post high

Leif:

school.

Steve:

Dan, shut the fuck up.

Leif:

Read the room.

Steve:

M. Read the fucking room like

Steve:

you're. You're at your high school party with the high

Steve:

school friends. Shut the fuck up and read the

Steve:

room.

Leif:

But at the same time, Serena was being so

Leif:

needy.

Steve:

Yeah, that is. That is also true.

Steve:

yeah, because she was realizing that. That she is

Steve:

peaked. Yeah, that she

Steve:

peaked in high school.

Leif:

Chuck wasn't lying about running some stats because

Leif:

in the next scene, we have him explaining the breakdown of

Leif:

Gossip Girl Blast about Constance. Saints Jude's

Leif:

versus Manhattan's other private high schools. The

Leif:

NJBC pulls it to puts it together that

Leif:

Gossip Girl is almost definitely one of the graduates in the

Leif:

room right now.

Steve:

Yeah, it was pretty clever, though, of Chuck

Steve:

to run these

Steve:

figures. And it's funny because you don't.

Steve:

Chuck always ask people that does stuff for him, but

Steve:

when it comes to, like, running a business and

Steve:

doing digging and finding dirt, he's kind of a

Steve:

natural at it. I thought it kind of fit. Yeah, I kind

Steve:

of fit Chuck's demeanor.

Leif:

Serena sends a tip to Gossip Girl as Chuck calls

Leif:

for quiet in the room. Jonathan's phone

Leif:

beeps as he receives the tip Serena just sent.

Leif:

As the NJBC surrounds Jonathan, the show

Leif:

goes to a commercial break.

Leif:

Did you think it was Jonathan?

Steve:

I thought that was a little convenient, but I thought

Steve:

it would have been a good thing. But also,

Steve:

I knew that this was going to go on for four more

Steve:

seasons and they weren't going to find out who Gossip Girl

Steve:

was by the end of the episode. Like, I

Steve:

just kind of figured they wouldn't.

Leif:

But they could have gone the Pretty Little Liars route and have

Leif:

multiple Gossip Girls, and that's.

Steve:

And so I had that thought, too, that, like, oh,

Steve:

that would be kind of cool that Jonathan is

Steve:

among the network. But I

Steve:

didn't really. I was shocked. But then

Steve:

the explanation also made a lot of sense.

Leif:

After the commercial, it's revealed that Jonathan is not

Leif:

actually Gossip Girl. He just hacked her computer.

Leif:

Jonathan now has access to the entire database of

Leif:

gossip. After Serena and Jonathan leave,

Leif:

Jenny finds a juicy piece of gossip that could win her

Leif:

the contest and allow her to abolish the

Leif:

monarchy. However, she asks Eric if she should.

Leif:

If she should, because it would obviously hurt

Leif:

someone to reveal the info.

Steve:

okay. Jonathan, you have all of her

Steve:

emails, you have all of her.

Steve:

All these downloads and all these

Steve:

things that people have sent to her. You can't get a name

Steve:

off that computer. Somewhere. Like, somewhere.

Steve:

Come on, Jonathan. Do better.

Leif:

So there was. If you freeze,

Leif:

frame, you can see quite a few tips that were

Leif:

on the. On there.

Steve:

Oh, really?

Leif:

Yes, Somewhere.

Leif:

Blair purging her lunch during sophomore year.

Steve:

Oh.

Leif:

Chuck having sexual problems.

Steve:

That happened.

Leif:

The longest book Nate has ever read. Being Dr.

Leif:

Seuss.

Steve:

Scans player peeking on.

Leif:

Aaron Rose in the shower.

Leif:

Oh, stepbrother. What are you doing?

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Oh, gross.

Leif:

Nate having three nipples. Nate turning

Leif:

Howard Archibald in.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Dan not being able to afford Yale. And,

Leif:

Dorota's an illegal immigrant.

Steve:

Wow. Leave Dorota

Steve:

out of it.

Leif:

And then some of the names of the people who sent

Leif:

tips in were, people from the production and

Leif:

set crews.

Steve:

Oh, that's funny.

Leif:

Next up, Rufus has the old six

Leif:

dream out and gives Danny a little sage wisdom,

Leif:

advising him that he should go to Nate's party and say a, proper

Leif:

goodbye to high school. I could have sworn Dan

Leif:

and Nate were in a good place after the last conversation together. I

Leif:

mean, why is he suddenly mad at Nate again?

Steve:

Yeah, well, I. Yeah, I didn't necessarily

Steve:

get mad at Nate as much as just wanting to

Steve:

stay away from the. From the scene.

Steve:

because I guess I was going more on the way Dan

Steve:

was in the previous scene where he was like

Steve:

to Serena, like, I don't really want to be friends with any of

Steve:

you anymore ever. So that's kind of where I took

Steve:

it as. As we were listening to

Steve:

Lincoln Hawk's new album getting written.

Leif:

After Dan leaves, Rufus goes to call Lily,

Leif:

who is just walking up to the door with a six pack

Leif:

and a bag of Chuck's weed. Even

Leif:

Rufus knows Chuck has the good shit.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah, they're gonna. They're gonna burn Chuck's

Steve:

stash and.

Leif:

Yeah, a little reminiscing.

Steve:

Yeah, that.

Steve:

I mean, that. That seemed like the obvious thing

Steve:

there, right?

Leif:

Back on the Upper east side, Blair is preparing for

Leif:

Nate's party, talking to Eleanor. Eleanor

Leif:

encourages Blair to go after Chuck.

Steve:

It was.

Steve:

That was such a sweet moment. It was such a nice.

Leif:

I mean, it was. But why. Why is she

Leif:

pushing him to go after this guy with all these red flags?

Steve:

Well, because Eleanor doesn't really understand

Steve:

the things that her kid is really going through.

Steve:

So, like, it was sweet for her to be an

Steve:

encouraging mom. I don't think she really

Steve:

recognizes the weight of what Chuck's

Steve:

trauma actually is. You know, I think that

Steve:

it's more go get her girl than anything

Steve:

else.

Leif:

Well, I mean, she does know that Blair told him

Leif:

that she loved him and he walked away. She said.

Leif:

Right, that scene.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

But as she said, it is becoming a trope for them

Leif:

to have conversations in front of the mirror like this. This

Leif:

is like the third or fourth time this and kind of see us happen.

Steve:

It's when they have their bonding moments, and it's when

Steve:

Eleanor is actually like a

Steve:

sweet mother and not being over

Steve:

critical.

Leif:

Dan and Vanessa arrive at the party. A

Leif:

very drunk Nelly is about to confess her love to

Leif:

Dan, but runs off when she spots Serena across the

Leif:

room.

Steve:

Nelly's been hot for Dan this

Steve:

whole time. I love that.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Ah, she. She was, very funny as a drunk

Leif:

girl.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

And I don't know that we've ever really seen much of

Steve:

Nellie and Dan in the same place at the same

Steve:

time. So her admiring him from

Steve:

afar just makes it so much more

Steve:

believable, especially because he's the guy that

Steve:

nobody fucking notices. So,

Steve:

like I. Again, just a little

Steve:

wonderful thing that I thought was added in here.

Leif:

no one notices, but at the same time, he is the ultimate

Leif:

insider.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

It's a weird dichotomy at this point.

Steve:

It is. And when we get to Blair's

Steve:

takedown.

Leif:

Jenny, an attempt to be nice, warns Blair. The

Leif:

gospel girl knows about Blair and Jack on New Year's Eve.

Leif:

Blair snaps at Jenny. Jenny gets defensive

Leif:

and tells Blair that Penelope isn't following Blair's orders

Leif:

anymore. Blair then tells Jenny to keep her mouth shut

Leif:

and calls her a waste of time before

Leif:

storming off. Look out. Be not

Leif:

so little Jay as her fucked around and found out face

Leif:

on and tells is to get Penelope.

Steve:

Blair always underestimates

Steve:

Jenny and she always goes so hard

Steve:

at Jenny, and it doesn't usually work out for her.

Leif:

Again, this just goes back to Blair is distracted

Leif:

from the game. Yeah, he's completely focused on

Leif:

Shaq. Because as you see later, she does

Leif:

say, you know, you are my choice, blah, blah, blah, you

Leif:

know. Yeah, she's just too wrapped up

Leif:

in Chuck to really pay attention right now.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Blair pulls Chuck into a quiet room.

Leif:

Blair begins seductively undressing in order

Leif:

to get Chuck to admit his feelings. However, before

Leif:

Chuck can say those three little words, Gossip

Leif:

Girl sends another blast. We see everyone at the

Leif:

party's reactions as Gossip Girl has this to

Leif:

say. Serena Van der

Leif:

Roetsen just couldn't leave. Well, and left

Leif:

alone since she had to find out the truth about me.

Leif:

I'm going to tell you the truth about

Leif:

everyone. Every gossip bomb I've

Leif:

got is about to drop. And if you got a problem with that,

Leif:

take it up with her. Ever wonder why Ms. Carr left

Leif:

town? Dan Humphrey had sex with her during the school

Leif:

play. The sparks between Humphrey's sis and Nate

Leif:

during a hot photo session. Thank God it stopped at

Leif:

PG13 or someone could have ended up in jail like her

Leif:

brother. And as for Blair Waldorf, say

Leif:

uncle. We hear she kept it in the Bass family on

Leif:

years. But rumor has it Chuck spent some time

Leif:

in Brooklyn. Metaphorically speaking, of

Leif:

course. Serena VanderWithen here's looking

Leif:

at you.

Steve:

That. That blast. I mean, it's

Steve:

Kind of great that it just drops everything. And some stuff

Steve:

that we didn't know, too. What didn't we know

Steve:

we didn't know know about

Steve:

Chuck and Chuck.

Leif:

Jack and Jack. Yeah, it was

Leif:

strongly implied, though. yeah, I caught Dap

Leif:

pretends to be annoyed by. Oh, another blast.

Leif:

Why are you unsubscribed, Dan? Why are you still subscribed?

Steve:

Yeah, like you graduated, bruh.

Leif:

Things are getting volatile as we return from commercial

Leif:

break. The gossip bombs did their job as

Leif:

everyone appears to be at each other's throats.

Leif:

Metaphorically speaking, of course. Serena tries

Leif:

to play peacemaker, but then just draws

Leif:

everyone's ire onto her. And then Dan

Leif:

tries to defend Serena, but Blair goes after him as

Leif:

well.

Steve:

Yeah, the way that. The way Blair

Steve:

takes Dan down and is like, no,

Steve:

you're not the ultimate insider. You're not just

Steve:

tagging along to all of this shit all the

Steve:

time. And of course, Nelly also, once

Steve:

again, chiming in.

Leif:

Guy and ignored the rest of

Leif:

us. I mean them.

Steve:

I mean them.

Leif:

He dated Serena Van Wilson. You're best friends with Nate

Leif:

Archibald. You were the lead of the school play. You had, sex with the

Leif:

teacher. You're on the soccer team.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Leif:

Blair once again finds Chuck alone in the room

Leif:

and tries to push past their issues.

Leif:

Blair tells Chuck that she loves him. However,

Leif:

once again, Chuck still can't say it back and

Leif:

walks away from a tearful Blair.

Steve:

Another. Another great. Another great acting

Steve:

scene for Blair. You know, she. She

Steve:

really sells it. She really brings that

Steve:

across the quivering lip, you

Steve:

know? It was just. She really sold it.

Steve:

And Chuck's an idiot, and Chuck fucked it up.

Leif:

Back at the loft, Rufus and Lily are reminiscing about

Leif:

old Lincoln Hawk gigs. Rufus gets caught

Leif:

up in the moment and converts an old concert wristband into

Leif:

an engagement ring and proposes to Lily on the

Leif:

spot.

Steve:

All right, now, Rufus, act high.

Steve:

I just. I just felt the whole time like

Steve:

Rufus was just acting so high.

Steve:

It was like, I. I hate

Steve:

this. I. I thought Lily was a

Steve:

convincing eye, but Rufus just.

Steve:

Okay, okay, Matthew, act high.

Leif:

Outside the party, Nate tries to comfort Sarita,

Leif:

who is spiraling about never getting a chance

Leif:

to gain forgiveness if she doesn't fix things. Tonight,

Leif:

Sarita sends a text to Gossip Girl threatening to reveal

Leif:

her identity if she doesn't meet with her.

Leif:

Sarita was so cringe this whole episode.

Steve:

Yeah, she just is such a narcissist. Like,

Steve:

she'll believe that I know who she is.

Steve:

She'll believe it. And so then she'll show

Steve:

up and.

Leif:

We go into Act 3. Back at the party,

Leif:

Blair finds Jenny in the washroom and is a lot

Leif:

more apologetic this time. She even gives,

Leif:

Jenny the gossip that Chuck rejected Blair yet

Leif:

again. Great moment between these two as Blair

Leif:

declares that Jenny is her choice to replace her as

Leif:

queen. And fuck boys.

Steve:

I always like when they're together. I always like when they

Steve:

play off each other. Yeah, I think the two of them have good

Steve:

chemistry. They're the best actors among the

Steve:

kids. And so I really love

Steve:

when they have scenes like this together. And I thought they were

Steve:

good.

Leif:

Fuck boys and roll. The school

Leif:

at the Oak Room. Serena and Nate have been waiting for over

Leif:

an hour when Dan is the first person to show up.

Leif:

Dan tries to help Serena through her extreme

Leif:

insecurity issues.

Steve:

I, I looped you. That is not something.

Steve:

That is not a reference.

Leif:

I understood it was an app for like

Leif:

10 seconds.

Steve:

Okay. Like, find your friend.

Leif:

Yeah. Yeah.

Steve:

Okay.

Leif:

Stop. Sure they paid for that spot?

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

They bought drinks for everyone at the bar.

Steve:

Yeah, for all the teenagers

Steve:

at the bar. New app under

Steve:

Scandal.

Leif:

Then we see just about every named teen

Leif:

character show up and everyone gets a blast.

Leif:

You wanted to meet Gossip Girl? Well, look

Leif:

around. You just did. I'm, nothing without

Leif:

you. And while both high school friendships

Leif:

fade, it's my hope that what happened today

Leif:

will bond you forever. Now all my secrets are

Leif:

out. You have a clean slate until college.

Leif:

Congratulations. I'm coming with you.

Steve:

That was. It was so dumb. This

Steve:

whole subline was

Steve:

dumb. And it's so dumb

Steve:

again.

Leif:

It's just master manipulation by Gossip Girl.

Leif:

She's trauma binding them.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Leif:

It's like classic abusive pattern.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Leif:

And then I like the lines as each people walk in.

Leif:

Like when Dan walks in, he thinks it's him.

Leif:

And then.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Leif:

And then Blair comes in.

Steve:

They're working together.

Leif:

Oh, yeah. Blair walks in. Dan's like, oh, that makes sense. And then

Leif:

Jenny and he's like, they're a team.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Oh, that makes sense. Yeah,

Steve:

that one I love.

Leif:

Blair apologizes to Serena.

Leif:

Serena tells Blair it's unnecessary. Chuck

Leif:

is the only one not here. Yes, that's because he's

Leif:

standing outside like a creepy stalker.

Leif:

Such a weird shot.

Steve:

Looking in, looking in on everyone,

Steve:

and then slinking away. Oh, Chuck.

Leif:

And, we move into the epilogue.

Leif:

Just like last season. We get a flash

Leif:

forward with a one week later title

Leif:

card. Lily is admiring an actual diamond

Leif:

ring to replace the makeshift ring from Rufus

Leif:

Proposal. Eric and Jenny are unpacking a waffle

Leif:

iron. Eric is excited to Try it out. But Jenny has to

Leif:

meet Blair.

Steve:

I loved Eric's enthusiasm

Steve:

for the waffle maker.

Leif:

I mean, the acting was horrible, but. Yeah, right,

Leif:

right.

Steve:

But it's been so well

Steve:

established again with the Easter eggs, first of all, that we all

Steve:

know that Rufus makes great waffles. And now

Steve:

he's moved in and gets this super fancy waffle

Steve:

maker to make his waffles. It's also

Steve:

been well established that Eric

Steve:

craves a home cooked meal because his

Steve:

mom can't make one

Steve:

and never has. And there have been other times

Steve:

that you've seen Eric make the comments

Steve:

about how his mom can't

Steve:

cook.

Leif:

And I think it's not just the home cooked meal he wants.

Leif:

What's the home cooked meal represents? Which is a

Leif:

family.

Steve:

Yes. Yeah.

Leif:

He is perpetually lonely.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

And the waffle maker

Steve:

and, and really represents that for the

Steve:

Humphries and bringing that to

Steve:

the. The joined family. I,

Steve:

I. Yeah.

Leif:

I think this is a great thing for Eric. I mean, he's got a dad now. He's got

Leif:

a sister, he's got new brother, is going to be off of

Leif:

college, but you know, be around it sometimes.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Steve:

Where is NYU in relation to the Upper

Steve:

east side?

Leif:

Nyu, is like lower west side.

Leif:

Okay, remember we talked about this the other

Leif:

week? We were talking about where the apartment was, how. the apartment.

Leif:

The naked guy was actually not in between them at

Leif:

all.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Leif:

Serena is packing while talking with Blair.

Leif:

Gossip Girl has been tracking Chuck across Europe.

Leif:

Blair gives Serena a framed photo of Serena's

Leif:

mugshot. And Serena is spending the summer in Europe

Leif:

while Blair is going to stay close to home.

Steve:

we also hear that Chuck has been gallivanting

Steve:

around Europe.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

Oh, did you? I didn't. I missed that.

Steve:

But yeah, we.

Steve:

We do hear that Blair has been tracking it and the Gossip Girl

Steve:

has been updating.

Leif:

Dan and Vanessa are at a cafe. Dan

Leif:

admits to missing Blair, Nelly, and even

Leif:

Chuck Bass. Nate shows up and convinces

Leif:

Vanessa to let him come with her to Europe after all.

Leif:

During this, what appears to be a random guy tries

Leif:

to help Vanessa with her lie about taking someone else to

Leif:

Europe. After Nate and Vanessa leave, the guy

Leif:

and Dan bond over Nate having things come easy to him.

Steve:

M. Yep.

Steve:

This strange guy here.

Leif:

Did you recognize him right away or No?

Steve:

I did. I think I called it.

Steve:

Robin didn't. I think I was like,

Steve:

that's the brother. And she was like, the brother. And

Steve:

then the next scene. I could be wrong about that,

Steve:

but I'm sure I'll find out soon. the other

Steve:

thing, Dan, is she hot?

Steve:

Nate is here talking about how he's getting hit

Steve:

on by this deputy mayor. And

Steve:

Dan's response is, is she

Steve:

hot?

Leif:

And Nate says, kinda.

Steve:

Kinda?

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Nate's like, yeah.

Leif:

I mean, come on. That. That's how high school guys

Leif:

talk.

Steve:

It is. It really is.

Leif:

Blair and Jenny arrive at the restaurant and interrupt the

Leif:

meanie girls coronation of Emma Boardman.

Leif:

Blair takes the diamond studded headband and crowns

Leif:

Jenny instead.

Steve:

When Blair is shooing

Steve:

the girls off and she uses

Steve:

Cyrus's catchphrase, I actually have not

Steve:

enough.

Steve:

yeah, that.

Leif:

That really, she has incorporated that into her

Leif:

lexicon.

Steve:

That. I love that. And again, it's

Steve:

just really good continuity and

Steve:

really good writing.

Leif:

Back at the cafe, Nate, Dan and Vanessa

Leif:

are getting ready to see a movie. In the corner, we see

Leif:

Rando Scott with Rufus, Rolling Stone cover, and

Leif:

an article about Lillian. Rufus.

Leif:

Georgina calls Dan and lets him know that she's got his

Leif:

money back. And when Georgina finds out that Dan is

Leif:

going to nyu, she tells him she will see him next

Leif:

year.

Steve:

Yeah, so the totally not

Steve:

dead brother is

Steve:

going, to NYU with you, Dan. But his parents think he's in

Steve:

Oregon or Maine, but I would think

Steve:

Oregon. I think he'd leave. Well, I guess

Steve:

Maine's closer to where he was.

Leif:

At the NYU bursar office, Georgina is paying

Leif:

her tuition and requests Blair as a

Leif:

roommate.

Leif:

Oh, boy.

Steve:

It's fun.

Leif:

oh, boy.

Steve:

I'm. I was. I'm sold on

Steve:

season two Georgina Sparks.

Steve:

So I am excited for season three Georgina

Steve:

Sparks. So I'm here for

Steve:

this.

Leif:

Serena is about to get in her limo to go to

Leif:

the airport when Carter shows up. Carter says he found

Leif:

Serena's father in Fiji.

Leif:

Serena, already on her way to the airport,

Leif:

hops into the limo and tells Carter to get

Leif:

in.

Steve:

First mention of Serena's dad that I

Steve:

can really think of.

Steve:

especially the fact that she's looking for

Steve:

him. We've known that he's not in the picture.

Steve:

This is the first time we've known that there's a

Steve:

mystery behind where he is.

Leif:

So they did. I did freeze

Leif:

frame on the letter to, get.

Leif:

It's the eye on them. Agency

Leif:

PI Case detail report, Vander Woodson.

Leif:

Although it looks like a CDC announcement

Leif:

kind of activity, report

Leif:

says just like it's two days worth activities.

Leif:

pretty boring stuff. He leaves his hotel in a white

Leif:

Mustang, goes to an office for a while,

Leif:

into a restaurant. And then day

Leif:

two, he goes to his

Leif:

hotel. Or, goes from the hotel

Leif:

to his Office again. And then

Leif:

he meets with a woman at a restaurant. Although there

Leif:

was a typo. Actually, it's a typo. Actually, it

Leif:

says they seem to be meeting with a

Leif:

woman.

Leif:

Whoever was the PI didn't spell,

Leif:

check.

Steve:

Didn't proofread.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Leif:

And then on the street, Chuck

Leif:

is waiting for Blair. He was flying all

Leif:

over Europe to get Blair her favorite things.

Leif:

Chuck finally says those three words, eight

Leif:

letters. And Blair and Chuck begin to make

Leif:

out as we get the final sign off in the season.

Leif:

Xo xo Gossip

Leif:

Girl.

Steve:

Yeah, I, I, I thought that was super

Steve:

sweet. I love the, the, the

Steve:

him finally saying it.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

Came around.

Leif:

Goes back to the first episode of the season.

Steve:

Yep.

Steve:

And it all just kind of worked around.

Steve:

And I liked how it ended. I,

Steve:

I, I, I think the epilogue was my

Steve:

favorite part of, this episode.

Leif:

So I think I've mentioned in the past how in New

Leif:

York City, if you're going to be filming, if you're going to be closing down a

Leif:

street to film, you have to put up notices.

Leif:

Well, and ahead of time.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

So at this point in the show's filming, anytime

Leif:

they're filming on the street, there's hundreds of kids

Leif:

on around the set.

Steve:

Right.

Leif:

They filled this scene two ways. They

Leif:

filmed one with Nate and Blair and one with Chuck and

Leif:

Blair.

Steve:

Oh, dirty.

Steve:

dirty. I can

Steve:

appreciate that. I appreciate

Steve:

that.

Leif:

Because, like, Gossip Girl walks. So Game of

Leif:

Thrones could run as far as, like, on set.

Leif:

Spoilers.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

There's people always, like, taking pictures,

Leif:

stealing little side. You know, if anyone threw out their

Leif:

sides, they were getting stolen.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Steve:

It was really the dawn of that age, too. I mean, we've

Steve:

talked about, like, the message boards for the show

Steve:

and the real interaction between

Steve:

the Internet and tv.

Steve:

This is early in people figuring out how to mesh

Steve:

those things together and to build

Steve:

fandom through those things.

Leif:

But that is our episode and our

Leif:

season. Any predictions for next

Leif:

year?

Steve:

I predict that

Steve:

Serena is not going to stay at Brown very

Steve:

long. I don't know how far Brown is

Steve:

from Rhode Island White. Yeah. Yeah, that's what I thought.

Steve:

I thought it was a different state. So, yeah, I was, I'm assuming

Steve:

Serena will be coming back from Brown and going to

Steve:

NYU pretty soon.

Leif:

They're not going to split the show.

Steve:

I don't think that would be wise because they already kind of

Steve:

have to if they're going to keep Jenny in the show. Right. They

Steve:

already kind of have to if they're going to keep Rufus, Lily, Eric,

Steve:

and Jenny in the show to split it A third

Steve:

way. I don't. I don't see that happening. I

Steve:

also see Nate ending up at nyu

Steve:

and then they're all there. I.

Steve:

I don't see Chuck going to nyu. I just see him.

Leif:

Why would Nate go to nyu, though?

Steve:

He pissed off grandfather by leaving his,

Leif:

He already left the school that grandfather went to, wanted him

Leif:

to go to. He's going to Columbia, not Yale, which is in New

Leif:

York.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

And they never actually show school in the show, so it doesn't

Leif:

really matter what school as long as he's in New York.

Steve:

Yeah, Yeah, I just kind of figured they'd bring them all

Steve:

together.

Leif:

Are we gonna get any changes to the cast?

Leif:

Anyone upgrade or downgraded?

Steve:

I'm wondering if this

Steve:

is. If Georgina becomes a

Steve:

regular cast member. I mean, she's set up

Steve:

to appear in episode one, and

Steve:

so is it going to be, we're going to have her for a bit and then get

Steve:

rid of her like they've done in the

Steve:

past, or is she going to be

Steve:

a member of the cast now? I know that

Steve:

Jenny exits early at some point and I'm pretty

Steve:

sure that happens next season,

Steve:

so that also makes room for

Steve:

adjustments there. I could see

Steve:

Eric kind of getting a downgrade because

Steve:

there's not.

Leif:

As he's not main cast, technically.

Steve:

That's true. That's true. And I don't know, could

Steve:

Nate get a downgrade now that Blair and

Steve:

Chuck are going to be

Steve:

together? That, can only last so

Steve:

long before it.

Leif:

But it does seem like human Vanessa might be starting up

Leif:

again, which.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Which would all be at nyu.

Steve:

So. Yeah, I don't really see anyone getting too much of a

Steve:

downgrade that's a regular cast member. But

Steve:

I am curious about. Well, also the

Steve:

addition of, Scott that I'm wondering

Steve:

if he's going to be. He's obviously

Steve:

going to have a storyline in

Steve:

the new season. Is he going to be a cast

Steve:

member? And that means.

Steve:

Are they all gonna fuck? Oh, my God. He has to

Steve:

know who Serena is before that they're

Steve:

actually related.

Leif:

And we have to fight a love interest for Dan,

Leif:

presumably. Unless he's gonna just get back with

Leif:

Serena again.

Steve:

I mean, it's gotta happen at some point.

Steve:

I'm sure. I. I don't see them being done

Steve:

done. But yeah, I. Well,

Steve:

Georgina. I know Dan knows that

Steve:

Georgina's crazy and

Steve:

that Dan doesn't like Georgina, but Dan can

Steve:

also be dumb when it comes to

Steve:

women, so there's a possibility there.

Steve:

And I'll also say this going back to

Steve:

Ms. Carr. The Ms. Carr episode.

Steve:

Dan is going to NYU. Blair is going to

Steve:

NYU. Dan and Blair have chemistry.

Steve:

There's a chemistry there when they want to turn it on.

Steve:

So are they going to be alone together at NYU at some

Steve:

point? Point, yeah.

Leif:

You got Dan, Blair and Vanessa is going to be at NYU

Leif:

too.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Chuck's going to presumably be doing business

Leif:

stuff.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Chuck should be running his guy.

Leif:

How exciting.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Any other predictions before we get into segments?

Steve:

I don't think so. I think those are my big. Oh,

Steve:

Rufus and Lily. I think that they're going to get married. I think that

Steve:

they're going to have stupid dumb fights for the rest of this show,

Steve:

but I think they're going to get married and live happily ever

Steve:

after. That's my kind of hope

Steve:

prediction.

Leif:

Well, let's hope so. Let's

Leif:

go ahead and get into this week in fandom. we jumped

Leif:

into the Wayback Machine to check out the Television without pity

Leif:

forums from 2009.

Leif:

Hello there, Peabody here. And this is

Leif:

the Wayback Machine for traveling through time.

Steve:

And this is my boy, Sherman. Speak,

Steve:

Sherman. Hello.

Leif:

Good boy. Overall, the

Leif:

reaction. Great episode.

Leif:

Most. Most people liked it.

Steve:

I get it. I like the episode overall.

Leif:

They like the Chuck and Blair resolution, but

Leif:

still felt it took too long.

Steve:

Yeah, they did a little, they did the cat and mouse with

Steve:

it.

Leif:

They're happy they're together, but yeah,

Leif:

it just. It doesn't hit as hard because it took too

Leif:

long.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Including in this episode.

Steve:

Including.

Leif:

Most people are sad about have to wait for season

Leif:

three. Oh, those sweet summer children. If only they

Leif:

knew about waiting two years between eight episode

Leif:

seasons.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Steve:

Oh, man, it is getting worse.

Leif:

Disappointed we didn't get to see Georgina's

Leif:

takedown of Poppy.

Steve:

Yes, I agree with that.

Steve:

I felt like that was probably

Steve:

a. We didn't have time to write

Steve:

it in. I. I wonder how

Steve:

much of the previous

Steve:

episode had other

Steve:

things originally written into it that were then

Steve:

cut to fit the pilot into it. That I wonder if

Steve:

the original. I wonder if the original draft

Steve:

was the pilot episode of the spin

Steve:

off and then someone had a draft of the

Steve:

actual episode but then shit had to

Steve:

get cut out of that so they just one lined

Steve:

it at the end of the season.

Leif:

The fans also pointed out that

Leif:

USC stood in for Brown and the OC because the

Leif:

Brown was also featured in the oc so they're wondering

Leif:

what school they're going to use to shoot it for in gossip.

Steve:

that's funny.

Leif:

But that is it for this week in fandom. Let's

Leif:

go ahead and get it to episode graze.

Leif:

What do you got?

Steve:

I went a B plus. I thought that

Steve:

the I'm gonna take her down storyline was

Steve:

dumb, and I kind of felt like

Steve:

Serena was just kind of

Steve:

narcissistic and dumb in this episode. I

Steve:

still felt like it was a good episode.

Steve:

I really felt like the end of it really drugged me into

Steve:

it. So, yeah, be blessed.

Leif:

Yeah, I definitely agree. It was a good

Leif:

episode. And the only thing that I didn't really like was,

Leif:

yeah, Gossip Girl shouldn't be a character.

Leif:

It should just be an Omnis Edition narrator.

Leif:

And yeah, doesn't need to get

Leif:

involved in the plot. We don't really care who it is. But I

Leif:

still gave the episode an A. Yeah. Because, it, had a lot

Leif:

of great continuity. The writing was really good. He

Leif:

had some good resolutions, and he

Leif:

saw the season long arcs play out.

Steve:

Yeah, the writing. The writing on this

Steve:

show. Well, on this episode was.

Steve:

Was better than the episode at times. The

Steve:

dialogue and Easter eggs were better than parts of the plot.

Leif:

Heading over to Stockwatch, who you got going

Leif:

up?

Steve:

I had a lot of people going up. I was feeling very

Steve:

generous and some good things happened to some people here.

Steve:

So first of all, I had Rufus and Lily. They got engaged

Steve:

and they got over their shit, so good

Steve:

job. I had Jenny and Eric.

Steve:

I mean, Jenny, clearly, her stock went way up. She came out on

Steve:

top. She's the queen. Eric, because he has a

Steve:

family. I had Dan and Vanessa.

Steve:

Dan is done with high school and graduated and off

Steve:

to nyu, and he seems content with it. And

Steve:

so does Vanessa, who also is running off to Europe with

Steve:

Nate. So that seems pretty cool. I have

Steve:

Chuck and Blair going up for finally getting their

Steve:

shit together and saying there, I love you. And then

Steve:

I have Georgina Sparks going up for showing up

Steve:

and throwing a monkey wrench and shit for next season.

Leif:

Anyone else that, is, oh, I'm.

Steve:

Going to give up to Jonathan for hacking Gossip Girl.

Steve:

And that is it for going up for me.

Leif:

I had. Cyrus actually had. I had all three of the

Leif:

couples, basically. So you got Cyrus, Eleanor

Leif:

for giving good advice. Ru and L for

Leif:

getting together. Chuck and Blair for getting together.

Steve:

I should add Cyrus and Eleanor. I. I forgot about

Steve:

them. And Cyrus is amazing.

Leif:

I also had Jenny going up because she got queen.

Leif:

I had Gossip Girl actually going up because

Leif:

she manipulated to shoot out everyone out

Leif:

of everybody. And then Jonathan also, he. Because

Leif:

he hacked Gossip Girl. And I gave Deli a,

Leif:

up because she was just funny.

Steve:

That's fair.

Leif:

Georgina because she also took down Poppy, which

Leif:

neither the NJBC or Lily could pull

Leif:

off.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Steve:

And she.

Leif:

And she's primed to take down Blair.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Who do you got going down?

Steve:

I have actually. I have Nelly going

Steve:

down because she was

Steve:

dethroned. And she

Steve:

was.

Leif:

Nelly wasn't.

Steve:

Not. Not dethroned, but she was turned

Steve:

down by Dan. You know, she. She spilled her heart out to

Steve:

Dan, who didn't care. But the other reason I had Nellie

Steve:

going down was that it was her

Steve:

secrets that got Jenny to be

Steve:

queen.

Leif:

It wasn't really her secrets, though. It was the secrets that she

Leif:

had gotten from Penelope and is. Remember, that

Leif:

was from the, Right, right, the pop up fashion show.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

But it was because Nelly Yuki

Steve:

gave Jenny the ammo that took down. Took them

Steve:

down. Right. It was. Meleuki had the ammo.

Steve:

Right. Yeah, it did Jenny. Right. And so.

Leif:

And everyone knew that she had it.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

But she just didn't want to be queen at that time.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

so. Yeah, I don't really think those are Nellie's. I

Leif:

know they labeled as Nelly's secrets, but it wasn't really her

Leif:

secrets.

Steve:

Yeah. I had grandfather going down for

Steve:

being creepy. I had the minions

Steve:

going down for losing

Steve:

everything to Jenny. I believe that's

Steve:

it for my going downs.

Leif:

So for me, I had Serena

Leif:

because she was just cringe this whole

Leif:

episode. Scott. Because, whoa,

Leif:

guy, you're going to be wearing some Rufus

Leif:

skin on your wall soon.

Steve:

I left him neutral just because we didn't have

Steve:

a whole lot, but damn.

Steve:

Yeah, there is that.

Leif:

And I did have the minions, but especially Edmund

Leif:

Boardman. She took the biggest hit.

Steve:

Yeah. Yes.

Leif:

I had Dan, Vanessa, Nate, and Eric.

Leif:

All neutral.

Steve:

Okay, I get that.

Leif:

That doesn't really had any plots. They didn't really.

Leif:

Yeah, Eric got, a family, but that's just something we kind

Leif:

of observed. Wasn't really part of the story other than

Leif:

offwire.

Steve:

And I also want to add Serena to

Steve:

my down list because she sucked.

Steve:

And. And I. And I meant to have her on that list

Steve:

and forgot to put her on it. But here's the best

Steve:

outfits from the last episode

Steve:

we see.

Leif:

Who do you have for best outfit?

Steve:

I had Blair's dress for the party.

Steve:

and I love that even when.

Leif:

The one she takes off.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah.

Steve:

The one with the jacket. When she comes in, she has the jacket

Steve:

on. Takes that off. But then the dress. Yeah. That she

Steve:

wears. She has it on in front of her mom, too.

Steve:

When you really see it.

Leif:

For me, I had Chuck's suit from the first

Leif:

party with. He had like the, it was like a brownish suit with like the

Leif:

the peach, shirt and the orange.

Steve:

Tie that was on my list. That and

Steve:

the, my other one that was on my list was

Steve:

Carter's suit at the end, the

Steve:

gray with the gray pinstripe shirt. I thought that was

Steve:

really slick.

Leif:

I also like Jenny's dress from the first party.

Leif:

Yeah, she always has great style. she had like a

Leif:

zipper dress. Zipper was in the front.

Steve:

Yeah, it was really cool.

Leif:

Well, that is it for segments. Do you have

Leif:

weeks. we'll be back to talk about season three, episode

Leif:

one, Reversals of

Leif:

Fortune.

Steve:

I'm Excited?

Leif:

The max episode description reads, serena

Leif:

returns from Europe with many secrets to hide.

Steve:

I, I'm excited. I know what she's

Steve:

looking for. I know that she's

Steve:

also probably doing sex stuff

Steve:

because that often happens when Serena goes on European

Steve:

trips. So, yeah, I'm excited.

Leif:

And the paparazzi are following her.

Steve:

And the pronzi are following her.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

I'm not interested in Serena's sex stuff. I'm just saying that

Steve:

I'm interested in the scandal. I don't really

Steve:

want to know what she's doing. She kind of creeps me out.

Leif:

Well, as vulture mentioned, we did get some new side
