Transcript
Steve:

Oh, I just got fired five minutes ago. So instead of taking any

Steve:

legal action against the school for or

Steve:

trying to get my job back in any other way, or trying to find

Steve:

another job, I'm going to bang this student that I

Steve:

was hot for since the moment I met

Steve:

him the first day

Steve:

I was at the school.

Leif:

Hey, Upper East Siders and all you scandal loving listeners out

Leif:

there. You just tuned into the non judging breakfast

Leif:

pod where the coffee is strong, the

Leif:

waffles are fresh, and the gossip is hotter than

Leif:

ever. My name is Leif and I'm, your seasoned Gossip

Leif:

Girl veteran.

Steve:

And I'm Steve. I'm the newbie, the greenhorn,

Steve:

the, I don't know, Leif, what are we calling the season two newbies

Steve:

now?

Leif:

If Cornflower Mary can come in and tell us through how to run

Leif:

things and everything we stood for all these years is nothing.

Steve:

Well, fire me for inappropriate

Steve:

relationships. Sounds

Steve:

good. So here's

Steve:

the deal, folks. Leif has been watching this show since it

Steve:

first aired in 2007. And I'm diving in for

Steve:

the first time. And together, we're your dynamic

Steve:

duo, bringing you all the drama, romance, and

Steve:

sometimes questionable fashion choices of this

Steve:

iconic 2007 series.

Leif:

That's right. Each week we'll be taking a deep dive into the

Leif:

show one episode at a time. We'll analyze the

Leif:

hidden parallels of obscure references and we're

Leif:

also going to take a look at some behind the scenes gossip and stories

Leif:

from fandom along the way.

Steve:

And since we are all about inclusivity here at the non

Steve:

judging breakfast pod, there is always a seat for you at the

Steve:

non judging breakfast table. So go ahead and grab a

Steve:

mimosa, some coffee, or maybe some of Nate

Steve:

and Chuck special medicine. And let's get into this

Steve:

episode.

Leif:

We are here to talk about season two,

Leif:

episode 17 of Gossip Girl

Leif:

titled Carnal Knowledge.

Steve:

Yes, and, this is. I. I've

Steve:

heard of this. I never saw it.

Leif:

The original release date of this episode was on February

Leif:

2, 2009. And yes,

Leif:

the movie was based on Carnal Knowledge 19,

Leif:

71 dramedy directed by Mike Nichols

Leif:

and starring Jack Nicholson, Candice

Leif:

Bergen, Art Garfunkel and Ann

Leif:

Margaret.

Steve:

If I am correct, this is around

Steve:

the time Simon and Garfunkel were falling

Steve:

apart and when they were making this. And the

Steve:

song only living boy in New York

Steve:

came from him basically singing

Steve:

to Art Garfunkel saying, yes, it's

Steve:

your time to take this and it's your time to do this.

Steve:

That's my understanding of that song. And

Steve:

how did that work? Out for him.

Leif:

This episode was written by Len K.

Leif:

Rosenfeld, previously wrote

Leif:

Daredevil, School Lies, Chuck

Leif:

in real life, and it was also co

Leif:

written by Alexandra McNally,

Leif:

who previously co wrote New Haven Can Wait with

Leif:

Josh Saffron.

Steve:

Yeah. And we like New Haven can wait.

Leif:

Yeah. Directed by Elizabeth Ann

Leif:

Rosenbaum. This is her only Gossip

Leif:

Girl episode. She did two teen

Leif:

type movies early on in her career, but some

Leif:

music videos along the way, but mostly tv.

Leif:

But she's definitely a teen drama specialist.

Leif:

She's done work on vampire diaries, the

Leif:

920 reboot, all American,

Leif:

and, of.

Steve:

Course, this is before all of that too. Yeah. Because

Steve:

this. The directing in this, I

Steve:

felt seemed amateur at

Steve:

times. Like I. I felt. And I think that it was

Steve:

partially that the writing didn't give the director a lot

Steve:

to go on, but I thought there were some really weird

Steve:

directorial decisions.

Leif:

So why don't you go ahead and give us the Vulture recap?

Steve:

All right, so the Vulture recap.

Steve:

This week's episode of Gossip Girl broke

Steve:

all the rules. Blair broke the invisible

Steve:

barrier between Gossip Girl herself and the parents

Steve:

of St. Jude's and Constance Billard.

Steve:

Nelly Yuki broke the bonds of friendship and

Steve:

loyalty. Rachel Carr broke nearly

Steve:

every tenet of private school teaching. And the show

Steve:

as a whole violated the ultimate, homage

Steve:

gimmick rule. If you're making obvious and

Steve:

overwrought references to something else, don't

Steve:

have a character on screen acknowledge

Steve:

it. The moment Chuck said the words

Steve:

eyes wide shut, even the very

Steve:

mild feeling of amusement and curiosity we'd

Steve:

had regarding this pot line

Steve:

was shattered. From that moment

Steve:

on, our own eyes were wide

Steve:

shut. Hoping against all hopes

Steve:

that we weren't witnessing the moment when the greatest show

Steve:

of our time jumped the biggest shark

Steve:

on prime time.

Leif:

Not a great storyline.

Steve:

No, no, this was

Steve:

bad.

Leif:

And just proof that Chuck can't

Leif:

carry a storyline.

Steve:

Cannot carry a storyline.

Leif:

So we start the episode with the Gossip Girl monologue

Leif:

while Upper east siders are hitting the snooze button. Blair

Leif:

Waldorf had a rude awakening when the rooster crowed at

Leif:

dawn this morning. And we open up with Blair

Leif:

talking on the phone to Serena complaining about her

Leif:

detention. However, Dorota is the one actually

Leif:

doing Blair's community service.

Steve:

Yes, we catch Blair working hard watching Dorota do

Steve:

all of her community service. Although

Steve:

Blair has the awareness when she

Steve:

sees Harold to stop

Steve:

and grab it from Dorota and

Steve:

pretend that she's doing the work.

Steve:

So obviously, like, there. There

Steve:

is. There's sometimes this thing with Blair

Steve:

that I wonder if her morality is

Steve:

she actually thinks that she's doing the right thing.

Steve:

And so I like when we see that she knows she's

Steve:

not.

Leif:

Blair decides that Serena isn't a good ally

Leif:

in her war against Ms. Carr. Blair sees

Leif:

Harold walking up and takes the garbage grabber from Dorota to make it

Leif:

look like she had been doing the work. Harold is completely

Leif:

oblivious to the type of girl Blair is. And Dorota

Leif:

side eyes her in the background.

Steve:

Yeah, and that's the other thing, is that

Steve:

Harold doesn't know his daughter at all,

Steve:

really.

Leif:

Ms. Carr is once again meeting Dan outside of

Leif:

class. They appear to have bonded over their shared

Leif:

outsider experience. Serena comes in and

Leif:

things are a little awkward.

Steve:

The only one and only

Steve:

thing I'm gonna say about

Steve:

the Dan Ms. Carr thing

Steve:

is he does technically go to a

Steve:

different school. Outside of that,

Steve:

everything is fucked. What are

Steve:

you thinking?

Leif:

What?

Steve:

How has no, In your training to be a teacher,

Steve:

how has no one yet pulled you aside and said, never be alone

Steve:

with a student? Like, that was student teaching

Steve:

for me. Someone came up to me and was like.

Steve:

I was making copies in the office with a

Steve:

student, and someone came up to me and was like,

Steve:

never do that again.

Steve:

Never do that

Steve:

again.

Leif:

Yeah, not a good idea.

Steve:

Never.

Leif:

Chuck wakes up having flashes of a decadent

Leif:

party. He notices a new tattoo on his wrist.

Leif:

Chuck calls Nate and gives him an address at which to

Leif:

meet.

Steve:

Oh, what the fuck is this? Was. That's.

Steve:

What the fuck?

Leif:

I mean, have you seen Eyes Wide Shut?

Steve:

I have not, but I

Steve:

culturally pop. Culturally know

Steve:

enough about it to know

Steve:

it's basically.

Leif:

This is basically the same story. He wakes up and he

Leif:

remembers having some crazy night with some young girl.

Steve:

Yeah. And has to retrace his steps. And he actually

Steve:

has sex with Nicole Kidman. In the

Steve:

actual movie, Blair arrives at.

Leif:

School and hands over her community service hours to a

Leif:

condescending Ms. Carr.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Oh, Henry David Thoreau.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Ms.

Steve:

Carr.

Leif:

Blair tries to rally her troops for war, but the

Leif:

Minions want no part of a fight with Ms. Carr.

Leif:

Lucky for Blair Queller and Carr forcing all the students

Leif:

to check their phones to the door, giving Blair the kindling

Leif:

she needs to light a fire under the Minions.

Steve:

Yeah. And you know, you see Blair

Steve:

losing the Minions here, and she

Steve:

gives this what's supposed to be arousing

Steve:

speech, and it's so. It's just

Steve:

poorly written. Again, it's just like these

Steve:

weird cliches of, And

Steve:

Blair should be better than that, at least a little

Steve:

bit. I don't know. I was really disappointed.

Leif:

I guess I thought that was. I think that's just

Leif:

Blair.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah. I just thought

Steve:

it was a little.

Leif:

Ever. She's clever. She's not the smartest person in the room.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

Every great leader knows you don't send your girls into the field

Leif:

unarmed. If we know Blair Waldorf

Leif:

Munitions are on their way.

Leif:

We move into Act 2.

Leif:

Back from the commercial, Blair and the mean girls are going through

Leif:

Gossip Girl withdrawal. However, Dorota manages

Leif:

to sneak a contraband phone into the

Leif:

school.

Steve:

Is this candle even a scandal if I can't text about

Steve:

it?

Leif:

Yeah, I got. She's just, like, sitting there, like, mining. Texting.

Steve:

Yeah. I. I loved the minions

Steve:

in this, especially.

Leif:

Especially Hazel, Vanessa and Nate

Leif:

meet Chuck outside a mysterious location. From the business

Leif:

card. Chuck leads them inside and describes

Leif:

meeting his perfect woman at this exclusive

Leif:

gentleman's club.

Steve:

Great.

Leif:

Back at school, Blair is berating the minions for

Leif:

failing to dig up dirt on this car.

Steve:

Yeah, I have to say that earlier in the episode,

Steve:

before we got to this scene, I turned to Robin and

Steve:

said, kind of like Hazel's hair. And

Steve:

then she. On Hazel's hair. I was like,

Steve:

oh, well, that. There's

Steve:

my world. That's my fashion advice.

Leif:

However, the amma Blair niece practically

Leif:

falls into her lap when she sees Dan in this car

Leif:

flirting in the hallway. Blair quickly sends a

Leif:

tip to Gossip Girl. Blair then quotes Gossip Girl as

Leif:

we go to another commercial break.

Steve:

Yeah, we get, like, awkward Dan,

Steve:

which we. We know Awkward Dan, and we know Dan

Steve:

gets like that. But, like, you're talking about her

Steve:

shirt. What the fuck? It was just

Steve:

too awkward.

Leif:

Free Dan.

Steve:

Yeah, exactly.

Leif:

But so normally, we would have got in

Leif:

a Gossip Girl monologue here. Instead,

Leif:

we get Blair quoting Gossip Girl. This goes

Leif:

for a commercial breakdown.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah, because she.

Leif:

Oh.

Steve:

Because she texts Gossip Girl, and it.

Leif:

Says, xoxo, Gossip, Girl.

Steve:

You're right. You're right. She does. Yeah. That's interesting.

Leif:

I'm gonna throw out there. As we return

Leif:

from commercial break, Dan is getting high five. Then

Leif:

congratulated by the guys we have never seen before.

Leif:

Jenny comes up and fills Danny on the gossip about

Leif:

Dan and Ms. Carr.

Steve:

I love how clueless he is. I also love that

Steve:

he trashes Jenny's makeup, and he's like, you don't look like

Steve:

a raccoon anymore.

Leif:

Damn, that's kind of a brother

Leif:

sister.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah. I. And I love Jenny's involvement in this.

Steve:

Having it all written out on her hand because she couldn't get the

Steve:

text.

Leif:

Serena comes up to Dan to confront him about the

Leif:

post. She believes him that nothing happened, but

Leif:

she, Side eye when he calls Ms. Car.

Leif:

Rachel while defending her.

Steve:

Yeah, because you shouldn't be calling her

Steve:

Rachel. I know. She told you to.

Leif:

Well, Serena's also calling her Rachel.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

Back at the mysterious house, Chuck finds a picture of

Leif:

the mysterious woman holding a baby. The plot

Leif:

thickens.

Steve:

This was one of the parts that I thought was just really

Steve:

poorly written and directed. When he comes down

Steve:

the stairs and then is like, oh, and there was a

Steve:

curtain here. Like, you would have seen that first. When you.

Steve:

Like, the things that you saw first, you're

Steve:

now describing after you've toured the whole house.

Steve:

It just seemed like we

Steve:

have this house that we have to shoot in for one day. So let's

Steve:

get all this done.

Leif:

All locations shooting is expensive.

Steve:

Yeah, I'm. I'm sure.

Leif:

Dan enters the girl's bathroom to confront Blair about

Leif:

the rumors. Blair denies sending the rumor, but then further

Leif:

pushes the narrative that Dan is sleeping with Ms. Carr.

Steve:

Yeah. Why would you go into the bathroom,

Steve:

Dan? That again, like,

Steve:

weird writing and directing choices. Like, why would

Steve:

you send Dan into the bathroom to confront

Steve:

her?

Leif:

Like, just so they could get that.

Steve:

Weird, awkward one at the end.

Leif:

so get that line there. The ladies room. I know you and

Leif:

Serena were having problems. I had no clue they were

Leif:

anatomical.

Steve:

Oh, yeah, yeah, that. Well,

Steve:

and having Dan walk, you know, bumping into the

Steve:

other girls leaving the bathroom.

Steve:

But it's like, it was still stupid.

Leif:

I thought Serena and Ms. Carr meet

Leif:

outside of school. Ms. Carr is still supportive about

Leif:

Serena's writing. Serena lets her know about the rumor.

Leif:

And Gossip Girl. As Serena walks into the school,

Leif:

Dan shows up and asks to talk to Ms. Carr.

Steve:

Hey, there's a big rumor about us, so let's get together

Steve:

in front of everybody and start talking. You should

Steve:

not be seen with this person

Steve:

at all.

Steve:

Like, both of you should immediately be like,

Steve:

I cannot be in the same place at the same time as

Steve:

you at all until this shit is cleared

Steve:

up.

Leif:

I don't really believe Dan.

Steve:

I don't blame Dan nearly as

Steve:

much. I think Dan is smart enough to

Steve:

know, Wow, I should avoid her

Steve:

after this.

Leif:

I feel like everyone's congratulating.

Steve:

Yeah, true. But Dan also

Steve:

doesn't really like that kind of

Steve:

attention a lot of the time anyway.

Steve:

So I'm. I'm just saying that, like, in both cases,

Steve:

I think that I. I understand Dan more,

Steve:

but I also think that the two of them, the

Steve:

Dan that we've known so far, I feel Realistically would be

Steve:

like, oh shit, I better stay away. But instead dives

Steve:

right into it.

Leif:

It does make sense that he would want to go to apologize right away.

Steve:

Apologize, yes. But yeah.

Steve:

Nonetheless, you're idiots for being seen

Steve:

at all together.

Leif:

Chuck is speaking with the realtor for the mysterious house and

Leif:

uses his family name to pressure her into doing something

Leif:

unethical. Chuck calls the owner, is told that

Leif:

Annie couldn't have been in New York last night. But Chuck leaves

Leif:

her a message.

Steve:

This was the one Chuck thing that I

Steve:

liked because it was Chuck

Steve:

throwing around the Bass name using his

Steve:

power, which he has now. And he

Steve:

wasn't trying to flirt or

Steve:

do anything sexual with this

Steve:

realtor in that conversation.

Steve:

So it was nice to see that Chuck, you

Steve:

know, taking charge a little bit without it

Steve:

trying to be banging this real estate

Steve:

person.

Leif:

It's pretty low bar.

Steve:

It is. It is. It's a very low bar.

Steve:

The bar for Chuck.

Leif:

Not I. Yeah, I didn't like. I mean,

Leif:

he's still doing shitty, so I can't.

Steve:

Yeah. Yes. He was still doing shady in

Steve:

Queller's office.

Leif:

The head mistress and miss Carr questioned Blair about Gossip

Leif:

Girl and the latest rumor. Nelly flip sides

Leif:

turning state's witness and Blair was

Leif:

expelled.

Steve:

Yes. Nelly taking

Steve:

a shot.

Steve:

Well, M deserved. I don't blame

Steve:

Nelly for this. Nelly has been eyeing

Steve:

Yale all along. Blair has been

Steve:

slipping for a while.

Leif:

We find out later that Dan set this whole up

Leif:

too.

Steve:

Well, they. They said right there, Blair says

Steve:

Dan Humphrey and then it was confirmed by

Steve:

someone else.

Leif:

Yeah, no, but Dan is the one who told Ms. Carr to

Leif:

pressure Nelly.

Steve:

Oh, I didn't catch that.

Leif:

It's revealed later. Okay.

Steve:

Okay. Yeah, I didn't catch that.

Leif:

Yeah, like when. When Ms. Carr is

Leif:

thanking Dan, she's like, thanks for pointing me

Leif:

to the weak link.

Steve:

I. I did not catch that at all.

Leif:

Okay, Dan's a little Machiavellian here.

Leif:

Yeah. Back from

Leif:

commercial. Harold is waking up Blair.

Leif:

Blair amidst M to posting the rumor, but that anything she

Leif:

posted was the truth. How gets very self righteous and

Leif:

is going to fight the school.

Steve:

In previous episodes, they wrote

Steve:

CC in for Lily and I felt

Steve:

like it didn't work. I feel

Steve:

like they're writing Harold in for

Steve:

Eleanor, but I feel like they're.

Steve:

They've done it in a better

Steve:

way these past two episodes. We have no Eleanor,

Steve:

but we have Harold who, you know,

Steve:

isn't usually around. And I kind of felt like

Steve:

it was, we need the parent

Steve:

there. But I thought that having Harold was the right

Steve:

decision, that the interactions that he

Steve:

has that. He sees this other side

Steve:

of his daughter throughout this.

Leif:

Well, yeah, because I don't think the story would have made sense for

Leif:

Eleanor because she would have known right away that Blair was

Leif:

lying.

Steve:

Yeah, exactly. And yeah,

Steve:

I, and I feel that's sort of what I'm

Steve:

saying is that if this was another pivot,

Steve:

they did a good, they did a really good job

Steve:

of the pivot, unlike the CC pivot.

Leif:

Yeah, I just, I don't think it was a pivot at all. I think it was, it was always.

Steve:

Just written to be Howard Harold.

Leif:

Yeah, because, yeah, because you know, he's the

Leif:

Yale guy anyway, so it makes sense.

Steve:

yeah. Okay, that does make sense.

Leif:

Dan is telling Vanessa about telling this car to go after

Leif:

Nellie for the dirt. Rufus walks in and informs

Leif:

Dan that the parents council will be discussing the

Leif:

incident. Yeah, this is where he was telling

Leif:

Vanessa that he told Ms. Carr to go after

Leif:

Nelly.

Steve:

Yeah, yeah, I, I, I missed that

Steve:

somehow.

Leif:

Ms. Carr is having yet another inappropriate out of school

Leif:

meeting with a student. This time it's Serena. Serena

Leif:

begs for leniency for Blair, but Ms. Carr stands

Leif:

firm. So inappropriate.

Steve:

I, at this point I was like, you should kind of

Steve:

get fired. She shouldn't have

Steve:

this job.

Leif:

Serena calls Blair and apologizes for not

Leif:

being able to make Ms. Carr Budge. Blair

Leif:

tells Dorota to give away the bulldog from last week.

Leif:

Give it to Almost match. Give this to.

Steve:

And I, this is one of those points when

Steve:

I think the morality of Blair. Waldorf thinks that this is

Steve:

doing the right generous thing despite it

Steve:

being like giving someone a dog that they can't

Steve:

take care of, that they can't

Steve:

afford that they now have to split all of their

Steve:

resources in half. The resources that they

Steve:

don't have already. Now they have to split all of them in half to keep a

Steve:

dog alive.

Leif:

Lily and Rufus arrive at the parameeting and Rufus meets

Leif:

Harold. Rufus and Harold quickly realize they are on

Leif:

opposite sides of the issue.

Steve:

It's interesting that this is the first time that they've

Steve:

met, especially because of how

Steve:

Rufus already feels about Blair.

Steve:

Rufus has had a problem with Blair

Steve:

because she's been coming after Jenny. She was coming after Jenny for

Steve:

all that time and so he already doesn't

Steve:

like your daughter and now you're coming here saying

Steve:

shit about my kid too. Like fuck

Steve:

you, dude.

Leif:

And how, how does Harold, a lawyer, not know the difference between

Leif:

libel and slander?

Leif:

That was probably all episode.

Steve:

Yeah. And, and I'm, yeah,

Steve:

I would once again throw that back

Steve:

to Len K. Rosenfeld.

Leif:

Chuck has a quick phone conversation with me.

Leif:

However, before the scene cuts, the mysterious L

Leif:

walks into the room, leaving Chuck in stunned

Leif:

silence.

Steve:

That, ah, was out of nowhere. Like, where the. Did she even come

Steve:

from? I know Chuck left the message to

Steve:

the. To the other person, but also, why are

Steve:

you just hanging out at this house all day

Steve:

waiting for something to happen? And why is

Steve:

no one being shown this house but

Steve:

Chuck?

Leif:

Yeah, it's all weird. Why isn't he at school?

Steve:

Yeah. And why isn't he at school

Steve:

where.

Leif:

Running the door. Right? At the company.

Steve:

Yeah. Why isn't. Yeah, why isn't nate at school?

Leif:

Ms. Carr is having yet another inappropriate

Leif:

date with Dan. Ms. Carr gets all

Leif:

teary eyed and basically admits that she would Dan if

Leif:

circumstances only slightly different. As dan

Leif:

is comforting Ms. Carr, Serena walks by the

Leif:

restaurant and snaps a cannon pick of the, let's say

Leif:

couple.

Steve:

So at this point, she gives like

Steve:

three reasons.

Leif:

Like, three. Like circumstances where she would, you know.

Steve:

Where she would hook up with him. Like if he didn't go to another

Steve:

school. If you. And it ends with call me in five

Steve:

years and you're talking to this

Steve:

student's boyfriend, you're openly

Steve:

flirting with a student and saying like, oh,

Steve:

well, maybe in a few years. That's

Steve:

horrifying. That's disgusting. And no,

Steve:

you're not. You are just a few years

Steve:

apart. And in five years, no,

Steve:

it really wouldn't be a super inappropriate

Steve:

relationship other than the fact that you were thinking about this

Steve:

kid when he was a teenager, so now it's already

Steve:

tainted. If he waited five years, you

Steve:

know, like, everything about this is just

Steve:

wrong. And at this point. Yeah,

Steve:

fire her.

Steve:

Absolutely fire her.

Steve:

She's out there having coffee with

Steve:

students. Like, fire

Steve:

her. She doesn't brush his hand away when she. When

Steve:

he's cupping her hair behind her

Steve:

ear. Fire her.

Leif:

Yeah. Yeah. Spotted.

Leif:

Lonely boy going from teacher's pet to Persona nia

Leif:

grata in the pitter patter of the heartbeats.

Steve:

Missed opportunity. Going from teacher's pet to petting

Steve:

the teacher.

Leif:

We move into Act 3. Chuck is

Leif:

talking in the dark with a, mysterious. With a mysterious

Leif:

L. The imitation wasn't for Chuck. It was for

Leif:

his father. I guess the club didn't get the times

Leif:

today of Bart's front page obituary.

Leif:

El admits to drugging Chuck, hoping he would forget

Leif:

all about the party.

Steve:

When Chuck was like, save me from what I'm

Steve:

like, save.

Steve:

Come on. the other thing.

Steve:

There's a little bit of a question

Steve:

mark here. They're talking about his dad's death and this

Steve:

secret society and all of this stuff that.

Steve:

That makes me wonder if

Steve:

Bart's death is somehow related

Steve:

to this secret society.

Steve:

But I also don't know that the Gossip Girl

Steve:

writers ever think that far ahead on.

Leif:

Vanessa shows up at Nate wearing the mask he sent

Leif:

earlier.

Steve:

Good for them when the eyes first. When she first opened it, I

Steve:

thought it was a bra when she opened that thing. But

Steve:

also good for Nate and Vanessa. I'm glad that

Steve:

they are, as of right now, smooth

Steve:

sailing. I. Super boring.

Steve:

Yep. I don't care though. I'm happy for

Steve:

them. You don't have to show them a lot. You can bore me

Steve:

with them. I'd rather you bore me with them

Steve:

than bore me with Dan and Serena getting back together and breaking

Steve:

up. Because I know, because I'm just sitting there

Steve:

like they're going to fucking do it again.

Leif:

At Blair's, Serena reluctantly hands over the photo

Leif:

photo she just snapped of Dan in his car.

Leif:

Serena manages to send Danny text that he needs to

Leif:

show up at the meeting before Blair drags

Leif:

Serena to said meeting.

Steve:

Yep.

Leif:

It was just so take a stand, Serena.

Steve:

Yeah. You know that Blair is going to use this for

Steve:

something bad. You know, you should talk to Dan about this

Steve:

first. So you. You're fucking

Steve:

everything up, Serena, and you know it.

Leif:

This goes back to the whole Serena

Leif:

just doing things because she knows and then, using plausible

Leif:

deniability to get away with it.

Steve:

Yeah, exactly. And

Steve:

it's also she's mad at

Steve:

both of them right now. She's mad at what she

Steve:

saw. And here's the thing. Serena

Steve:

has every right to be mad about what she saw because what she saw

Steve:

was super inappropriate. That if that

Steve:

was. First of all, if that was any other

Steve:

girl, Serena has every right to be mad. If

Steve:

you're having that intimate of a conversation,

Steve:

your girlfriend can be mad.

Leif:

I think Dan was definitely hitting on her.

Steve:

yeah, like it was all out of line.

Steve:

And so Serena handing the photo over.

Steve:

Yes, she fucked over Dan and she fucked over Ms.

Steve:

Carr. But she isn't wrong

Steve:

either because the fallout

Steve:

is what it should have been anyway.

Leif:

Harold the lawyer and Rufus, an idiot, continue to

Leif:

mislabel this as slander in the meeting. Then

Leif:

Blair bursts in and shows everyone the photo of Dan in his

Leif:

car and.

Steve:

And busted here. Yeah,

Steve:

it's.

Leif:

Dan shows up outside the meeting and tells Serena the

Leif:

truth. However, even Dan recognized the

Leif:

photo is pretty damning.

Steve:

Once again we have Rufus not listening to his kids

Steve:

and at the same time you have Howard

Steve:

finally listening to his.

Leif:

Harold.

Steve:

Harold. Yeah. Damn it. I keep calling him Howard. But

Steve:

Harold finally listens to Blair

Steve:

and hears that she's not the

Steve:

little daddy's little girl angel that he thinks she

Steve:

is.

Leif:

The meeting breaks up. Ms. Carr has been fired.

Leif:

However, Harold overhears Blair telling Dan and

Leif:

Serena that the rumor was a lie and he becomes

Leif:

incredibly disappointed.

Steve:

Yes, this is where I was a little bit ahead,

Steve:

but this is where Rufus

Steve:

storms away from Dan. When Dan's like, it's

Steve:

not true and we'll talk later.

Leif:

Serena and Dan have an honest conversation.

Leif:

Even though Serena believes Dan, they break up yet

Leif:

again.

Steve:

Of fucking course.

Leif:

Can we keep them apart now? They're clearly not to

Leif:

be together.

Steve:

No, they're not.

Steve:

They're.

Steve:

Because that's the thing there. I. I

Steve:

just have this. I know it in my gut that this isn't

Steve:

done. And maybe for this season, that'd be

Steve:

great, but they're going to. One of them is going to

Steve:

start. Well, Dan's going to start car.

Steve:

So Serena's going to get jealous. Well, she's not going

Steve:

to know anyway.

Leif:

Who's the next guest star?

Steve:

who's the next guest star?

Leif:

Sometimes the only thing left to do is

Leif:

wrap your arms around each other one last time

Leif:

and then just let go. I agree.

Leif:

Gossip Girl.

Steve:

Yep.

Leif:

Just let go.

Steve:

just let go.

Leif:

We move into the epilogue.

Leif:

The next morning, Dan and Rufus are having a

Leif:

conversation. Rufus is actually making some sense for

Leif:

once. Even though he believes that there was no actual

Leif:

affair. What Ms. Carr was doing was completely

Leif:

inappropriate. Dan gets a bit self righteous and

Leif:

takes all the blame on himself, completely

Leif:

exonerating Ms. Carr.

Steve:

I really appreciated Rufus's

Steve:

stance here.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

I really appreciated him finally

Steve:

being on the logical side of things.

Steve:

Yeah. You didn't sleep with her. She still

Steve:

shouldn't be working there.

Leif:

Yeah. Serena goes to Ms. Carr's apartment to

Leif:

apologize. Ms. Carr gives her back her

Leif:

essay along with praise for her writing that tells her

Leif:

it's better if Serena just goes away.

Steve:

Yeah. Serena, you

Steve:

up here? You. You up.

Steve:

You were mad and you

Steve:

cost someone their career, so they're going to be a little

Steve:

upset with you.

Leif:

she cost her softer career.

Steve:

No, you're right. I'm not

Steve:

defending Ms. Carr in any way, shape or form. I'm

Steve:

just also saying Serena to go to her and be like. But we can still

Steve:

be friends, right? Is a little.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

Is a little ridiculous.

Leif:

And why did she want us to.

Steve:

Be friends with her? And why do you want to be friends with her?

Leif:

She just Stole your boyfriend?

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Harold and Ramon have a goodbye conversation. In

Leif:

Blair's room. Harold drops some hard

Leif:

truths. Handsome Dan has to go back to France with

Leif:

Harold. So Blair lifts the bulldog by the balls and

Leif:

sets him on the floor.

Steve:

That dog by the balls. I didn't notice it the

Steve:

first time, but wow.

Leif:

What that direction was that just a choice by

Leif:

Lane. She.

Steve:

I hold dog.

Leif:

She just scooped right up behind him.

Steve:

Harold had to do some hard parenting too.

Steve:

It's not easy to be disappointed in your

Steve:

kid. And that's rough. The

Steve:

not going to the airport with her. That hit me

Steve:

because that, It's hard.

Leif:

Chuck is rummaging through his father's safe.

Leif:

He finds a box full of invitations similar to the one

Leif:

he had received with just an address and time written on

Leif:

a card with the mysterious symbol on it.

Leif:

Chuck gets a call from L's boss who sells

Leif:

who says, l never got off the train back

Leif:

from New York.

Leif:

Guess we're continuing this story next week.

Steve:

Yeah. This is him on the safe. In the safe. You

Steve:

right. When he goes through the safe.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

How many times has he been through that safe? He's been through that

Steve:

safe since. Since Bart was alive. He's been

Steve:

in and out of that safe a million times. And you never found

Steve:

this thing of invitations?

Leif:

He probably. It just said

Leif:

invitations before. He had no idea his dream

Leif:

girls there.

Steve:

Sure, sure.

Leif:

Dan goes to visit Ms. Carr and apologizes for getting

Leif:

her fired. However, Ms.

Leif:

Carr, leans in and goes for the

Leif:

kiss. She pulls Dan inside her

Leif:

apartment.

Steve:

Yeah. So fucking dumb. Oh, I just got

Steve:

fired five minutes ago. So instead of taking any legal

Steve:

action against the school for, or trying to

Steve:

get my job back in any other way, or trying to find another

Steve:

job, I'm gonna bang this student that I was hot

Steve:

for since the moment I met him

Steve:

the first day I

Steve:

was at the school.

Leif:

And this is how Dan Humphrey's porn career started.

Leif:

Weller is meeting with Rufus and Lily to tell them that Ms.

Leif:

Carr will be reinstated due to

Leif:

insufficient evidence. And those teachers

Leif:

unions.

Steve:

Yeah, I. And I'd be

Steve:

surprised if they're unionized at a private school.

Steve:

At that kind of private school, I don't think CAR would have

Steve:

a whole lot of leg to stand on at a school like that. They

Steve:

really are usually you're gone.

Steve:

The flip side to it, if they're not going to fire

Steve:

her, she should at least be written up.

Steve:

Like there should be a record of.

Steve:

She, had inappropriate off

Steve:

campus meetings. Off campus meetings with students.

Steve:

And she should be told you are not to

Steve:

Meet off campus with students. And you are

Steve:

not to meet one on one with students.

Leif:

Now we see Serena is leaving a message for Dan. She

Leif:

apologizes to Dan and asked if they can just

Leif:

forget the whole Rachel thing.

Steve:

No, see, Serena, you broke up. You broke up again

Steve:

five minutes ago. You broke the fuck up.

Leif:

They're so fucking horny, these two. Yeah.

Leif:

They just gotta fuck.

Steve:

Yeah. And Dan's gonna get that message later, be like, oh, shit. But I

Steve:

bang Car, and now I want to bang Serena some more.

Steve:

Oh, no. Who do I bang?

Leif:

That might be hard to do, because as we switch back to

Leif:

Dan and his Cara. It's one thing to forget about a

Leif:

crush, but it's another when carnal knowledge is in the

Leif:

picture. If she had just waited another five

Leif:

minutes, she might have gotten the call from Queller that she had

Leif:

her job back.

Steve:

Yeah. I was unclear as

Steve:

to whose phone that was that we saw at

Steve:

the end if it was Dan's or hers, because it's the missed message

Steve:

from Serena. But then there's also a missed message from

Steve:

Queller. They should have had both the phones with missed

Steve:

messages.

Leif:

I assume that was cars, because they were. It showed it as

Leif:

we heard the message from Kohler.

Steve:

That's. That's kind of what I was thinking, too.

Leif:

And we end the episode with the Gossip Girl

Leif:

monologue. They say every

Leif:

action has an equal and opposite reaction, and

Leif:

once something is set in motion, it can't help but

Leif:

gain momentum. One thing's for certain, on the

Leif:

Upper east side, what goes around comes M.

Leif:

Around. Xo, xo,

Leif:

Gossip Girl. Where are we heading

Leif:

next?

Steve:

we're gonna hear more about this fucking Chuck thing, I'm

Steve:

sure. At least another episode or two

Steve:

of Chuck figuring out this

Steve:

stupid fucking mystery secret

Steve:

society.

Leif:

Secret society. Secret society. I think this

Leif:

is number three.

Steve:

Yeah. We don't have a name for this one

Steve:

yet. No, we've had the Skull and Bones.

Steve:

We've had the Colonial Colony Club.

Steve:

Colony Club, right. Yeah, I. And I

Steve:

think that we're gonna get a little bit of a mess of

Steve:

Serena and Dan, and they're gonna kind of maybe

Steve:

almost get together again, and then Serena's gonna find out she

Steve:

banked that he banged Car. That's kind of

Steve:

my thoughts there. Car

Steve:

is gonna,

Leif:

Are Dan and Ms. Carr gonna be, like, just hooking up at school

Leif:

now?

Steve:

Yeah, totally. There. It's gonna be a whole secret

Steve:

relationship. Absolutely.

Leif:

Oh, boy.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Oh, boy.

Steve:

Yeah. it is a plot line that bothers me. It

Steve:

bothered me in Pretty Little Liars, and that's

Steve:

Seasons.

Steve:

It.

Steve:

It really bothers me, the teacher student thing,

Steve:

because they don't do enough to really

Steve:

make it inappropriate. They make it look

Steve:

hot. And it is m.

Steve:

And I understand why.

Steve:

It's just so bad

Steve:

on so many levels. It's

Steve:

predatory. And.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

I tend to just hate these plot lines.

Steve:

And here's the other thing is that it does

Steve:

happen, and it happens a

Steve:

little too often. In fact, I

Steve:

guarantee that it would

Steve:

happen more if it weren't

Steve:

for students saying no.

Steve:

I've worked with people that would say

Steve:

something and I'd have to call them on it. That.

Steve:

That's your student you're talking about. Like, that's creepy.

Steve:

And it's something that does happen.

Steve:

And I. When I see it on tv, I

Steve:

want it to be villainized. Villainized.

Steve:

Thank you. Yeah. I want it. I don't want it to be hot. I

Steve:

want it to be wrong. Yeah.

Leif:

Which, you know, they definitely tread the line with

Leif:

this one.

Steve:

Yeah. Yeah.

Leif:

Different school. Yeah. He's

Leif:

technically, you know, legal consent age.

Steve:

yeah. Because. Well, so Dan is

Steve:

17, and that would put him in the

Steve:

legal consent. Except for the fact that she is in

Steve:

a position of power.

Leif:

Yeah.

Steve:

So she does have a job at the

Steve:

same organization, despite it being a

Steve:

different school. I'm fairly certain

Steve:

that a teacher

Steve:

that. Except for certain

Steve:

positions of power, it isn't your teacher. It's

Steve:

any teacher. So there is that side of

Steve:

it.

Leif:

Go ahead and get into some segments.

Leif:

This week in fan. And we jumped into the wayback machine to

Leif:

visit the television without pity forums from

Leif:

2009. Hello there,

Leif:

Peabody here. And this is the wayback machine

Leif:

for traveling through time. And this is my boy,

Leif:

Sherman.

Steve:

Speak, Sherman. Hello.

Leif:

Good boy. You got mixed opinions on

Leif:

what Blair did, but universal dislike for

Leif:

what Ms. Carr was doing.

Steve:

Yes. Objectively wrong.

Leif:

Some people were down on Blair for spreading

Leif:

rumors that were not true. But some people were

Leif:

completely supported.

Steve:

It is not okay to spread rumors that aren't

Steve:

true. The rumor there was

Steve:

smoke where that turned into fire.

Leif:

Yeah. They actually like that Dan is stepping out of

Leif:

character and doing a Chuck like storyline.

Steve:

Okay. I guess it's a

Steve:

little Chuck like, while Chuck is doing

Steve:

a dumb like storyline.

Leif:

Hoping this is the end of Dan and Serena.

Steve:

no, it can't be. Here's why.

Steve:

Lily and Rufus are together now. Right. If Lily

Steve:

and Lily and Rufus stay together, which I

Steve:

feel like they've gotten to here, I don't see why they wouldn't.

Steve:

If Lily and Rufus are together next

Steve:

season, by next season, something has to happen

Steve:

with Dan. And Serena. Because if they're all living under the.

Leif:

Same roof, well, they're way off the college

Leif:

next year.

Steve:

Oh, yeah. They are moving. Yeah. They haven't had the

Steve:

awkward, full awkwardness of the parents

Steve:

and them in a good place. And

Steve:

I feel like that has to happen before Dan and

Steve:

Serena were actually tied off.

Steve:

So I do. I can't imagine this is the end of

Steve:

Dan and Serena.

Leif:

We can only hope.

Steve:

We could hope. We could hope. Dorota's

Steve:

love always heart

Steve:

emoji eyes.

Leif:

Love the costume and love the side eyeing

Leif:

Blair.

Steve:

Yes. I love how aware Dorota is

Steve:

of how much of an asshole Blair is.

Leif:

The forums definitely pointed out the age of consent in New York

Leif:

is 17.

Steve:

Most states have a caveat that it

Steve:

like police Officers can't date 17 year olds

Steve:

and teachers can't date 17 year olds. Public officials

Steve:

can't date 17 year olds. There is like a

Steve:

professional thing

Steve:

in there.

Leif:

Eager, eagerly awaiting Blair's revenge

Leif:

on Nelly.

Steve:

Yeah, that's going to be juicy. Well,

Steve:

it should be.

Leif:

Nelly seems like she's, She's winning here.

Steve:

Nelly's a competitor. Could Nelly usurp

Steve:

Blair and become the new queen?

Leif:

Well, school almost over.

Steve:

She have five minutes at the end.

Leif:

Her. Her. Her wedding is getting at the Yale.

Leif:

Blair doesn't.

Steve:

Yeah. Which I'm really. I'm really starting to feel

Steve:

that has to happen because they can't all go to Yale.

Steve:

They can't leave the Upper east side.

Leif:

No one's a fan of the Chuck storyline.

Steve:

No.

Leif:

And Nate and Vanessa. Cute, but pointless.

Steve:

Again, I'm good with it. I. Stan. Nate.

Steve:

I love seeing Nate happy, even with

Steve:

Vanessa.

Leif:

Let's go ahead and move over to some episode

Leif:

grades.

Leif:

What do you got this week, Steve?

Steve:

I went low. I gave this a D plus. I

Steve:

thought this was maybe the worst episode

Steve:

we've seen so far. I thought that

Steve:

aside from the plot lines that I thought were just

Steve:

kind of dull and uninspired, I thought

Steve:

the writing to get through them wasn't good.

Steve:

I thought again, weird directorial

Steve:

choices, especially with the Chuck

Steve:

stuff. The. Why is he coming down the

Steve:

stairs? Why? Just so many weird

Steve:

things. Yeah, I hated this.

Leif:

Yeah. A lot of that stuff with Chuck was an attempt at

Leif:

an homage to Eyes Wide Shut. Eyes Wide Shut Never

Leif:

seen. I said a lot of those shots.

Steve:

Looked like that movie did it. Yeah.

Leif:

But that. Ah, that story definitely brought down.

Leif:

Other than I actually like this episode. Other than that storyline,

Leif:

it would have been like a B, but that brought it down to a C plus

Leif:

for me.

Steve:

I think that the triggering nature of the teacher

Steve:

storylines for me, that probably also

Steve:

really worked into that.

Leif:

I mean, I hate that they did it, but I think it

Leif:

was. I mean, yes, you would have liked to see him

Leif:

villainize it more, but I think it was a good,

Leif:

dramatic storyline.

Steve:

I get it.

Leif:

On the stock flash, who you got going up?

Steve:

Nate, Vanessa, Nelly. That's it. Nate and

Steve:

Vanessa are happy and enjoying life, and Nelly

Steve:

Yuki just got the upper hand on, Blair.

Leif:

I just couldn't give Nate, Vanessa, anything because they just

Leif:

didn't give anything. So they're just neutral me.

Steve:

That's fair.

Leif:

But I did have Nelly Yuki. I had

Leif:

Dorota for being a, you know, carrying

Leif:

Blair.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

As usual. And I gave it to Rufus because

Leif:

you and I. He was an as usual. He was kind of right in the

Leif:

end.

Steve:

He was right in the end. I almost gave it to Rufus. I

Steve:

kept him neutral because of

Steve:

the shitty moments when he wasn't listening to

Steve:

Dan. And then he comes back and has the better

Steve:

moment at the end. So I kept him neutral.

Leif:

Who do you got going down?

Steve:

I have Dan, Serena,

Steve:

Blair, Rachel, and

Steve:

the now disappeared Elle, because she

Steve:

disappeared.

Leif:

For me, the biggest one is obviously Miss. Ms.

Leif:

Carr.

Steve:

Yeah.

Leif:

Blair is. She's.

Leif:

She's not expelled, but she's. Yeah, she's

Leif:

not doing too well here.

Steve:

She lost her dad's respect. Yeah. And

Steve:

that is something, that means a lot to her. She

Steve:

did all of this for her dad's respect.

Leif:

I also gave Chuck going down because he's

Leif:

just running around being an idiot.

Leif:

Serena, because she got broken up with

Leif:

and basically cheated on the other minions.

Leif:

Minus Nelly. All go down. Harold, for

Leif:

just. For not knowing the difference between libel and

Leif:

slander as a lawyer.

Steve:

Fair.

Leif:

And I kept going back and forth on Dan.

Leif:

he got weighed. He got what he wanted, but

Leif:

he did was a bad boyfriend of Serena. So I ended up going

Leif:

down.

Steve:

Yeah. Bad boyfriend to Sabrina and broke up with

Steve:

Serena. That. Yeah, all of that

Steve:

stuff. But here's the best outfits from

Steve:

the last episode we've

Steve:

seen.

Leif:

Who, do you got for the best outfit?

Steve:

I really liked Lily's outfit

Steve:

that she wore to the. To the

Steve:

hearing, where it was like the black

Steve:

on the top with the Greene sort of scarf

Steve:

underneath. I thought that was really cool.

Leif:

So for me, it was a short scene. It was the scene

Leif:

where Serena brings Blair the p. The

Leif:

picture, and Blair is wearing a

Leif:

rosette. Catherine Melodrino, top with a

Leif:

pencil skirt.

Steve:

I almost. I almost went with that one because that

Steve:

was really cool.

Leif:

That is it for segments you got anything to plug this

Leif:

week?

Steve:

this comes out on the 9th, right. So

Steve:

my show at the Christmas Village is already last

Steve:

week. So the main thing,

Steve:

I've been watching the show Shrinking

Steve:

and if you have Apple tv, I

Steve:

highly recommend it. Harrison Ford,

Steve:

Jason Siegel, Jessica Jones. They

Steve:

are amazing. It was created

Steve:

by Bill. I can't think of his last name. He

Steve:

created Scrubs. Yeah, he created

Steve:

Scrubs and some many other

Steve:

towns. Cougar Town. And in

Steve:

fact, it stars the one of the

Steve:

actor from Scrubs and Cougar

Steve:

Town. Ah. Who played Dr.

Steve:

Cox's wife. I can't think of her name.

Leif:

from Drew Careyshe.

Steve:

Yes. Yeah, she was. She's on the show.

Steve:

Ted McGinty is her husband. So, they

Steve:

jumped the shark on episode one and Ted

Steve:

McGinty on that show is my spirit animal.

Steve:

He's amazing.

Leif:

Leif:

The Netflix episode description reads,

Leif:

the seniors put on a production of the Age of Innocence.

Leif:

Chuck enlist help from an unlikely source.

Steve:

Oh boy, oh

Steve:

boy play.

Leif:

Sounds fun though.

Steve:

yeah. Yeah. And probably highly

Steve:

inappropriate for a high school.

Leif:

Well, until next time, you know you love us.

Steve:

Every time you walk away or run away you take a

Steve:

Steve:

Every time you walk away or run away you take a

Steve:
